Heaven. Bliss. If you like the beach, mountains, forest and want to get to the edge of the ocean, come here. 216 acres of natural beauty, near the Dungeness Spit. Lot of picnic tables. We walked on the trail that's 1 mile along near the bluff. I could stare at that forever. I took videos and it's like medicine for the soul to watch them again and again. Camping is available here. They have coin operated showers, and there's a dump station. Restrooms too. Reservations can be made in advance online or there's first come, first serve sites but that changes at different times of the year. See the website for details. read more

This is a tough spot to review. The place is BEAUTIFUL! If you can find the beauty. Signage is horrible, maps are next-to-useless, and some trails are closed. After over an hour of hiking and not even catching a glimpse of the water we decided to leave out of frustration and approaching sunset. On the drive out we stopped at a random pullout. Within 100' of our car were some of the most spectacular views we have ever seen! Why not have a sign??? This place has enormous potential, and is icredibly picturesque, but desperately lacks management, marketing, and common sense. read more

A really pretty beach area. The beach itself is very sandy, which is rare for Washington, but the water is pretty cold. What's unique is shape of the spit, which is really cool from high above. Unfortunately, there aren't many good places to see the spit from. I went on a weekend afternoon, and all of the nearby parking lots were packed. We ended up parking in a small lot about 1/2 mile away. Due to COVID, there is no entrance fee now. There were a lot of people, many of whom weren't strictly following social distancing guidelines. read more

So reserved spots are reserved in the spring, if you're last minute, good luck. First come first serve, interesting story... Clearly some people plop their stuff down for days/weeks at a time and pre pay, leaving the few FCFS spots unused until the weekend when they deign to return. The campgrounds staff even participate in this charade, putting out orange "occupied" cones or roping off the FIRST COME spots, presumably for their friends or what not- Certainly not FIRST COME. I saw one county parks person doing just this in the AM after early check outs. Then the spot was unused until after dusk. Clallam County appears to take the whole fairness of such a system somewhat loosely. The bathrooms are extremely well maintained, some of the cleanest in the state. But the gaming for spots is clear, have a back up plan because if you're not in the loop on the take here, you're not getting a spot esp on Thurs-Sat nights in July/Aug. They need to institute policies of -no unoccupied sites for more than 24 hours -no "saving" sites in FCFS. Occupants not present = AVAILABLE. -no shows, EVEN in reserved, 24hours + are forfeit unless you call and make arrangements. Bottom line, camping in this state has become a relatively cheap and scarce resource. Letting people game the system to save unoccupied space is ridiculous. We saw spaces with NO ONE PRESENT for 72+ hours IN AUGUST W "CAMPGROUND FULL" SIGNS OUT. Absurd. read more

We camped here and hiked the Dungeness Spit trail to the lighthouse. The campground is clean and lovely. The trail was spectacular even by Washington standards. So many cool birds to see. We saw bald eagles and rufous hummingbirds right from our campsite. One of our most successful camping trips to date. Will return! read more

I am in love with this camp area. I've been here quite a few times within the past year and have not been disappointed with my stays. I'm not quite sure what the reasoning is behind the low reviews but yes, this camp area is strict about alcohol but it is promoted as a "family friendly" park. Which is one of the main reasons why I like it. This isn't a place to party; play loud music into the late evening hours; and try to get your drink on - it's just not tolerated at Dungeness. This place is however, very clean. Showers and bathrooms are provided, don't forget your quarters .25 for a couple of minutes. There are also a few camp sites that sell wood and kindling for your campfires. There are so many trails within this area and such great smells coming from the salty sea, evergreen trees, and campfires. This place really prides itself as the "Rolls Royce" of camping and recreation areas and its true! Also, just a heads up they are finally able to take online reservations for their campsites which is such a plus - so check it out! I've made reservations 2/3 times I have visited and have never had a problem. FYI: the park ranger on staff does a great job answering questions and makes sure the park is kept in its natural state as much as possible. You'll see him driving through the park in the morning and evenings. read more

Wonderful place to decompress. The trail down to the water is perfectly groomed and feels like a very old forest with beautiful big trees. Once on the beach you can hike for miles and enjoy views of the Straits. There is usually always a group of volunteers with interesting and informative information about the flora & fauna in the area. We go at least once a month to hike around in there and always have a peaceful refreshing experience. I reccommend leaving a generous donation upon your visit to insure the upkeep of this local treasure. read more

The campsite we stayed at is run by the Clallam County Parks system and the sites are really well maintained and taken care of. Better than the nearby Sequim Bay State Park and much better than many of the federal ones. It's just a quick walk to the entrance of the wildlife refuge ($3 entrance fee for adults) and from there you make your way down and if you see fit walk 5.5 miles to the Dungeness Lighthouse. It's not a strenuous walk but make sure you take water and snacks with you so you're not dehydrated/starving when you arrive at the lighthouse because you're going to have to make the 5.5 mile trek back. Take the small tour of the lighthouse is worth it and fill up your water container from the artesian well on the property. Marvel at the Salish Sea and slowly make your way back to an evening of cold beverages and s'mores. read more

This is a wonderful place for a day hike or overnight camping. Very nice campsites and great hiking trails. You can really fill up your senses here! Where else can you see or hike the longest natural sand spit in the United States (5.5 miles one way), or see Canada just beyond the beautiful Strait of Juan de Fuca. Oh, and the fresh smells of the salty ocean and pine trees combined is a sure nose pleaser. And such an array of birds for the bird lovers, from bald eagles to hummingbirds. It's a great nature trip you're sure to never forget. Great park rangers keep it clean and safe. read more

This campground itself is awesome that is why it gets some stars. The scenery is beautiful and really great sites and grounds are kept well as well as very clean bathrooms, as other have mentioned. A beautiful family-friendly place to be. Quite, serene, and lovely. Now for the remaining stars that they didn't achieve- As mentioned above by another review- the employee(s) are most definitely on a major power trip. I'm not sure what the deal is but we were discriminated against from the instant we pulled in. I tried to be very friendly despite the woman's aggressive personality/tone (unnecessary attitude) and bit my tongue more than once, trying to give the benefit of the doubt that some personality-types are different and maybe it wasn't intentional. I'd rather not get into specifics but it really felt like we were singled out and discriminated against for no good reason, we followed every rule and regulation and were treated like we were rule-breaking from start to finish. read more

Very strict rules about alcohol, lights out, group size + constantly hovering rangers made me feel as though I were being monitored by my parole officer. I was not breaking any of these rules. One ranger even came by to check out our bottles of olive oil as he thought that they looked like miniature bottles of wine from afar I suppose. I found it impossible to relax under this nanny-sitting. This camping site may be "family friendly" but this beautiful park is very adult hostile - any site without children seemed to be under careful watch. There are better places to go camping! Waste no time here! Otherwise, the spit is unique and gorgeous for a day-hike, and the bluffs would be great for a picnic. Do not spend the night. read more

The campground bathrooms have one shower and 3 stalls each. For some reason, young women campers don't know that you brush your teeth with a cup of water in your camp site, and wash your face the same way, instead of monopolizing the mirrors and sinks in the bathroom so no one else gets a turn. Some college girls expected that paper towels would be provided so they could wash their faces, instead of bringing their own towels. I enjoyed camping there due to proximity to the ocean, but was disgusted at the line in front of the mirror. I mentally questioned the fee charged to walk down to the beach. Since when do we pay to walk on the beach? Aren't recreation areas paid for by our tax dollars? read more
