Please do read the owner's "business-like" response. See the pictures and judge for yourself. The owner cannot explain away the pictures of mold and general grossness, not to mention the piles of junk and cars that directly surround the cabin. It's true, Airbnb notified me that the host refused the refund. (See airbnbhell.com and https://www.asherfergusson.com/airbnb/ for info about refunds). She got money for nothing and nine months later randomly starts posting craziness. Be sure to see all pictures and read other Yelp reviews. Another person's recent negative review tells a similar story as mine. A third recent moderate review also notes a need for maintenance and cleaning. There's a theme. Yes the beach is nice but being able to walk to the beach doesn't excuse mold, dirt, visibly sticky surfaces, misc drippings on multiple walls (dog drool possibly), plain filth and lack of maintenance. It took some significant filth to make me drive back home after looking forward to a week in Sequim. People don't do that for fun. If you want to read on, I'll address her ranting. 1. She admits that I left within "9 minutes" and texted her that I was leaving and would seek a refund. She was free at that point to rent the place to someone else. 2. The host can demand documentation. Per her demand I was required to go back and take pictures at a SCHEDULED time which I did. I live a couple hours away so, I can't just pop up to Sequim during the work week. (I was going to work that week from Sequim but that obviously went sideways). 3. After that, I was notified that the host still denied the refund. 4. That ended it for me. I don't have the time for unnecessary drama and even though I lost money, it was worth every penny NOT to sleep or shower in that gross place. Then 9 months later she starts randomly posting about me being an attorney and how my "entire claim" was denied blah blah blah. I never ever mentioned to her or to AirBnB that I'm an attorney. There is no way for her to know that except through stalking behaviors. The whole thing is beyond sketchy and a little disturbing. The pictures and 3 similar complaints tell the story. It was the worst possible AirBnB we've stayed in, I think the owner was aiming somewhere between shabby-chic and rustic, but didn't care that her place was actually dilapidated and filthy. The very first sign of trouble was the "resort" itself. Tracie calls it a "resort", but to us it looked like a hoarder's paradise. It's closer to a backyard full of old tires, a broken-down boat way past it's prime days, and just... junk. Tons of junk. Everywhere. The next warning came in the way of a rotting, moldy front door. We were hoping that the peaceful, quiet setting would make up for the utterly filthy place so we decided to just give it a try. After all, we traveled 2100 miles and had been planning this for months. Boy, did we regret it! This place is advertised as a treehouse, but it's actually not. While the balcony overlooks the Sequim Bay, the windows look right into the road, which is literally 4 feet away. So, while you're trying to read, have dinner, sleep... not only does the engine noise of a passing car wake you up at 1 am, but it's headlights shine right in the living room and your face. Not our idea of cozy and peaceful. The next morning, we woke up to a clogged toilet that just wouldn't flush. It was suggested that we try the plunger, which for some reason they were storing in the kitchen. That didn't work, neither did the effort of their maintenance guy, so a plumber had to be called. When he eventually arrived, he did what he did, but imagine trying to be on a work call while he's grunting with his ass crack in your face. So, wide awake and in daylight, the reality started sinking in. The place was just... disgusting. It clearly had been a long time since the fridge had last been cleaned and trying to use the microwave was a gag-worthy experience. Not only was it just... filthy, encrusted with caked-in splatter, but there was also a plate of rotting food inside. That didn't prevent Tracie from charging a cleaning fee and pretending to adhere to Enhanced Cleaning Protocol in order to be compliant with AirBnB's requirement. We then tried taking a shower. "Tried" being the key word, as the water heater was just not working. We had been gone for hours, obviously not using any water, but when we tried running the shower, the water was barely lukewarm, and ran out before one of us could finish showering. Tracie shared that the heater was only 30 gallons and suggested we should conserve the hot water, but we found it impossible to conserve something that wasn't there in the first place. I suggested to Tracie that considering the size of the heater, it's probably crucial that it actually works, but she didn't seem to care much. When we continued to press for some sort of resolution, she told us, at 10pm, that she could just refund us so we can move elsewhere. She suggested a local casino hotel nearby, but completely glossed over the fact that by then we were approaching midnight, not to mention... if we wanted to stay at a casino hotel, we would have booked a stay at a casino hotel. I told her that unfortunately this is unrealistic and I suggested we reconnect in the morning. The next morning, Tracie was conveniently quiet until I poked her again and asked for someone to fix the heater so we can shower. She said they can't do that, and suggested that they move us to a different "suite", or whatever the hell they call those... things. I told her that we have work calls all they long, and we can't really ignore our responsibilities so we can pack and move into a place that we knew nothing about, there were no pictures of that we could see, and ultimately has nothing to do with the "unique" "treehouse" we thought we were booking. I didn't just tell Tracie "no". Instead, I made a considerable effort in trying to explain why we can't just move, and that, sadly, she had put us in a situation that there was just no way out of. I don't know if she was genuinely trying, and was just couldn't understand why all of her suggestions were ludicrous, or if she was being malevolent in her pretending to offer something she knew no reasonable person would accept. Either way, the sheer number of failures as well as their nature made us feel that she is squarely to blame for this utterly bad experience read more

Love this place but needs to be better maintained and cleaned. Also, the nickel and dining to use the kayaks and such is annoying. It's already expensive enough. Good for small families with young kids and short stays. No groceries stores within 10 miles so come prepared with your own food from home or stop on your way. read more

Incredible stay here at the Eagles Nest. We stayed two nights and couldn't believe the views and a short walk to the bottom was very exciting when the tide came in every evening. Best kept secret and a great adventure. Thanks so much for creating such a special place for others to enjoy. Great kitchen and the place is huge honestly and the creaking "who cares" it's amazing, clean and so inviting, I'll be back next year. The Klallam deli is only a 1.5 miles down Sequim Bay Rd. Great Gallery and stores, stock up on ground coffee, popcorn etc and have a great time. We stayed there with 3 teens n two moms - no one even turned on a tv. read more

SMR has become a staple in our self care regimen. We discovered it close to ten years ago and have been coming back once a year or so since. It's become "our spot". We got engaged here, bring our dogs here, spend holiday weekends, celebrate birthdays, introduce friends, and recently brought our son for the first time. There is no doubt we will be returning guests for a lifetime. My hubby and I live in Seattle. SRM is close enough for a quick getaway and far enough to feel like an escape. It provides a peaceful sanctuary from the city to rest, recoup, and restore our sanity. Simply put, it's a heaven. Tracie and Lavon could not be sweeter (or more badass). My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice now and can't wait to get back. The Landing is our favorite cabin but we have toured them all. This is the ideal to place to kick back and relax. The cabins are all situated in a way that you don't really notice the other guests. The owners are great, very nice and respectful. The first time there, Lavon gave us a tour of all the cabins when we were scouting places for my boyfriend's sister's wedding. She ended up choosing a place on the peninsula but my boyfriend and I returned here shortly after the wedding because we liked it so much. On the return trip we met the other owner briefly, she saw us out for a walk with our dogs petted them and then we didn't see another soul again for the remainder of our stay. Staying here is like staying at a family member or friend's cabin. It's homey, comfortable and feels lived in. Each cabin has it's own unique decor and feel. They are clean but not hospital sterile. If you're looking for an on-call front desk and team of staff waiting on you, this isn't the place for you. If you want a place to marvel at your surroundings, breath in fresh air, and enjoy some piece and quite with your dogs, you won't find a place better than this. read more

Ignore the poor reviews on this place. It changed ownership in August of 2009 and in a single weekend, has become one of my favorite places to stay in Washington State. The Boat House couldn't have been more idyllic. Simple and basic while stylish and cozy, decorated with hip and homey retro furniture and stocked with everything we could have possibly needed. The bedrooms aren't fancy, but are rustically romantic, and at night you can hear the waves splashing underneath you. If you're looking to escape to a relaxing, peaceful oasis by the sea where you can sit outside on a sheltered porch with a glass of wine and watch the sunset, this is the place for you. read more

Won't be returning here or sending anyone I like here. It's a pretty place but that's it. The end of the dock is off limits so don't let the pictures fool you. There are kayaks and things for additional hourly fees. No thanks. It's expensive enough. The hill to drive down to any of the cabins is steep and treacherous. And if they tell you to park on the grass if you have extra cars DON'T! They are lying and will come down and scream vulgarities at you during your "pleasant stay". The bed we slept on was hard as a rock, but it's cabin stay...so that's par for the course. However calling it a "Resort" is a bit far fetched. I really wish we had just gone tent camping at a local site. I think we would have had much more fun, had use of all the amenities, the same comfort and for way less money. Oh and we also probably wouldn't have had our group cussed at. PS we were not a group of youth either. Several families, grandparents and small children. Don't stay here. Fabulous place ... we had 3 cabins reserved enjoy and celebrated 4 birthdays. Six of us girls. Was spectacular enjoyed the fresh air sleeping and the celebration between us. Took the family here this weekend for a short getaway. The views were great and the place was perfect for the family. The kids love going down the shore looking for crabs and the spitting water creatures. Only 1 suggestion. And I feel this goes for any rentable place in the PNW ( just for the kids or kids at heart ). Have a DVD of "Harry and the Hendersons" on hand or HDMI cable handy for the TV. We Netflix it on the laptop to give the kids a small thrill and sense of wonder about bring it these parts. All and all, thumbs up! read more

This place was quiet and peaceful (Except for a loud party one evening). The view was spectacular. So why only 3 stars. The place wasn't clean and looked a little run down. There were cobwebs and lights that didn't work. The filtered water faucet was broken. The place needs to be maintained better. There is no phone and no TV. There was a small mysterious charge on the final bill. I emailed the address on the final bill and never got a response. If it were maintained better we might consider another visit. read more

I completely agree with Jorge about this resort. My family just stayed here last week and it was not good. The location is beautiful and I feel like this place has enormous potential but the owners have completely given up. When we arrived, no one was in sight at the office. They left us a note that our keys were in our cabin. In fact, I never saw the owners the entire time that we were there. My mom apparently spoke to the owner about kayaking (which was a ton of fun but an additional expense!), and the owner gave her the impression that she was too tired of cleaning up after guests to deal. Um I am sure by this point in the summer that is true, but come on! Don't tell that to the guests. Also, the promise of internet is a scam. We could get internet if we paid extra (by the day). Um seriously? At the rate that these cabins are going, internet should be included. The bathroom was kind of nasty and the plumbing was a disaster. The kitchen was too. We cooked one night and found gigantic spiders in the measuring cup. We had to wash everything before we used it because they were disgusting. Not cool. Everywhere we looked in the cabin there was a sign saying that if we left this or that dirty we'd be charged extra. No joke. The fridge, the bathroom, the living rooms, the bedrooms. I understand that some people are gross and you need to charge them for breaking things or whatever, but put that in the agreement when you pay for the room, not all over the cabin and right in your face. I don't think my family will ever be back here. read more

As the reviewer Holly says, the ownership has changed. so the place is NOT dirty or unkempt. We stayed in Clams Cottage, which was lovely (though try The Boat House, it seems nicer). Appliances all seemed in good order, never tried the kayaking or wi-fi we were only there for a short stay. We did meet Tracie and Lavon and they were super nice, asked how we were, then left us alone. If you want 24/7 maid/valet/butler service go stay at a Hyatt. Biggest complaint?.....eh.......the newspaper for the kindling on the fire pit was a weeeeeee bit damp. Biggest plus?, the resort itself, from location, property, access, the accommodation (the bed was super comfy), they're dog friendly. So please, Go. You be glad you did. read more

My fiancee and I stayed at Sunset Marine Resort this past weekend and had a really great time. We stayed in the "Captain's Quarters", which was like staying in a luxury treehouse overlooking Sequim Bay. The "Captain's" was very clean and comfortable, complete with a wood fireplace, a very comfortable bed, with a full kitchen filled with all the appliances & utensils & supplies you'd ever need. It was cold outside at night, so we curled up in blankets, popped open a bottle of wine, and sat out on the big deck overlooking the water. Once we were thoroughly frozen, we played domino's inside, chosen from the cabin's supply of books and board games. The check-in and out process was very hands-off... the owner's took care of everything for us. Everything was clear and easy. The new owners are obviously putting a lot in to the property. The two previous reviews are not good representatives of our experience and I believe your experience will be similarly positive to ours. We had a great time and would definitely go back. read more

This place was AMAZING! If you are looking for a remote place to relax, enjoy the view and get away from everything in your busy life... stay at the sunset marine resort! We stayed at the clam cottage which is right on the beach (along with the boat house). There are about 7 or 8 cottages that are all very unique. Each cottage had its own fire-pit area, a grill and a clean and well decorated place to sleep. The wifi was so spotty that i couldn't use it, but you don't come to stay at this place and check your email. Incredibly beautiful, quiet and inspiring! Take day trips to the coast, the hoe rainforest, hurricane ridge and so much more!! read more

Belatedly writing a review after lodging here in early August 2016. Two of us stayed in the Skipper's Quarters and The Landing over our 4 night stay and loved both cabins, although The Landing is much easier to access from parking. Although it's a bit off the beaten track, and not close to in-town dining, we loved the amazing views, the grounds and vibe. It reminded us a bit of our favorite lodging on Tomales Bay, CA. Peaceful, quiet and picturesque. We didn't bring our own kayaks this trip, but one afternoon we rented good sit-on-top kayaks over at John Wayne Marina and had a great time paddling up to the mouth of the bay during a strong incoming tide. Great fun for us experienced paddlers. The gal renting the kayaks was super nice and helpful. This was our first visit to the Sequim/Sequim Bay area. Our fun stay at Sunset Marine Resort is a big reason we plan to return to this area ASAP. read more

Wifi available for free....no tv....which is perfect! This place has rustic charm and was perfect for a getaway. I loved that it made me feel like I was back at the lake in Michigan. We heard some sea lions at night and the location was perfect for hitting Port Angeles, La Push, and other area attractions. If you are looking for a 5 star resort, this is not it. It has some worn down areas and there is no phone or tv. The bonfire pit outside the cabin makes up for it and really encourages family time. Pet are allowed for a fee. read more

We booked this place based upon being dog friendly. I even called ahead to make sure, since we have two 40 pound dogs that like open spaces and need daily exercise. First of all, the "beach" only exists during low tide, and then it's really slippery rocks and rotting seaweed, not super ideal for dogs. Also, the beach ends only 50 yards down the way and the neighbors patrolled with their large, aggressive shepherds to make sure no other dogs go beyond the designated "resort" area. To call this "dog-friendly" is a stretch, unless of course your dog fits in a backpack as pictured on the website. Even having spoken to the owners who claimed they love dogs and told me "there's plenty of space for them to run" we should have been skeptical. Mea Culpa. Second, the place we stayed (Boat House) was run-down, smelly and mouse-infested. The beds were hard, the furniture old and uncomfortable and the whole place was drafty. Any food left on the countertops was eaten by mice overnight so we had to put it all in the fridge. For the price we did expect more but having been once we will never stay here again. read more

The hubby and I stayed here for 3 nights 11/19-22/2012. We stayed in the Treehouse cabin. It was absolutely amazing! The cabin is cozy and extremely clean. The view is breathtaking. The cabin has a full kitchen which made hunkering down wonderful. The furniture is comfortable for reading or just gazing out the window at the outstanding view. Our dog was quite comfortable and enjoyed the stay with us too. We brought wood for the wood stove and enjoyed romantic fires and warm evenings. There is no TV or phone but free wifi that was a great added benefit. The retro/vintage decor is quality and not trashy at all. Clean and classy, we cannot wait to go back! read more

I came here for a two night stay and loved it. The view is unbelievable and it''s on a perfect walking beach. We went kayaking (owners have many boats for use for a small fee). We loved the rooms in our cabin on the beach. The place was well outfitted and the bed cozy. Our bedroom was actually over the water at high tide! The owners are nice. I stayed at the Osprey's Nest April 2013 and it was a fantastic vacation. The owners were great to work with, they made sure I had what I needed, but then made themselves scarce. The kitchen is gorgeous, there's no tv or phone (which was a plus) and it's a short hike to the water. Beautiful views, really relaxing. I can't wait to go back! read more

Our family vacationed to Sunset Marine Resort from Ohio. We were visiting my grandparents. We couldn't have made a better choice! We stayed in the clam cottage and loved every minute! We roasted marshmallows right on the water at night and enjoyed strolling the beach during low tide during the day. We have two younger children and the clam cottage suited us well. We loved how well stocked it was and had everything we needed. It was really clean and comforting. Everyone was accommodating and nice! We were greeted by sea otters and bald eagles, the bald eagle came to say goodbye the morning we left. You will not regret choosing this wonderful resort. This is our second and hopefully not our last trip to Sunset Marine Resort. We stayed in the Tree House which was well equipped with kitchen supplies, very comfortable bed and awesome views! The Tree House was decorated very nicely and had an outside deck and seating area complete with hummingbird feeder! We enjoyed watching them. The only possible issue could be for someone who is light sensitive in the morning. Only the windows near the bed have shades leaving the corner windows to show off the morning sun. A sleep mask would solve this problem. We think the owners are extremely helpful, friendly and warm and treated us very well. We found the place extremely clean and everything functioning just fine. read more

If Dog-Friendly travel is your thing (like it is with me), Sunset Marine Resort is the new, highest standard by which all others will now be judged. Many places offer a stripped-down, dogs-OK version of their nicer spaces. Not so here! The cabin (Eagle's Nest) was absolutely gorgeous and my two pooches were immediately smitten with the delightfully shady, grassy little dog yard and the enormous deck overlooking the water. With loon calls in the morning for audio entertainment (insert visual of city dog's cocked heads here) and a morning romp on the rocky shoreline (everything smells so AMAZING, they proclaimed) my hounds were in doggie heaven. As for people-accouterments, the proprietors have thought of every single thing a guest might need during their stay and have graciously provided it. Additionally, this property offers the perfect jumping off point for day trips to the Olympic Peninsula's treasure chest of things to see and do. Come back? Absolutely. We spent eight glorious nights at the Sunset Marine Resort in Sequim, Washington over the 2012 Christmas holiday. We stayed Eagles Nest which accommodated our stay nicely, and for a few nights, my wife's 94 and 95 year old grandparents stayed in the Tree House cabin. Our family consisted of two teenage boys, a few dogs, and three adults. The resort provided just about everything to make our stay away from home very comfortable. We could not believe how well stocked the kitchen was. There were more appliances, serving dishes, and utensils than our own kitchen. They even have a dog door for our pups, which was great fun for them to run out onto the deck and check out what was happening at the John Wayne Mariana across the bay. The views of the bay from the living room and deck were spectacular and the beach was a short walk down the path. We made s'mores twice during our stay in the fire-pit in front of our house. We decorated for Christmas and even put up a full size Christmas tree. The Inn Keepers were very accommodating. I mentioned that the lights in one of the bedrooms made it difficult to read and the next thing I knew they delivered a lamp to correct the situation. They even brought us fresh towels one day without us asking. This was our second stay at the Sunset Marine Resort and we look forward to our next relaxing stay in this beautiful tranquil setting. read more

My wife and I recently stayed at this resort for three days at the Boat House. While the location is beautiful and the lodging adequate, be aware that the property is up for sale and the owners and staff don't give a damn about the clients. The bath and bedrooms were dingy and musty. The kitchen lacked most of the basics one would expect, and what was there was in disarray. The web site promises clams delivered to your door, use of the kayaks, and firewood - none of which was available to us, despite promises from the staff and requests made verbally and in writing. In fact, the staff was no where to be found on two of the three days we stayed there. Basically, once you pay, they could care less about your happiness. We strongly recommend you go elsewhere. read more

I thought the on-line photos looked super cute, so we decided to give it a try. We stayed in the "Boathouse" an eclectic, open concept vacation home set on piers. The house has a very comfortable feel to it-not pretentious or sterile like some stuffy resorts, but more like I was in my own home. I cooked in the fully equipped kitchen, and was still able to interact with the family, and enjoyed the great view all at the same time. There was plenty of outdoor space for the dogs to run and the fire wood we ordered was delivered right to the front door. Over all it was a very nice vacation-everything we needed in a very peaceful setting! read more

My partner and I resently stayed at this resort and we loved it! We spent 2 nights in the clam cottage with our pups. The cabin is very cozy and comfortable with a wood burning stove and fully supplied kitchen. There is a grassy area right off the porch for the dogs. It was so quiet and peaceful and the sunsets are beautiful. We love the combination of rustic and comfortable and we are already planning our next stay. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters for 5 days here, while exploring the Olympic Peninsula. The lack of TV is a plus here, especially with great wi-fi. The cottage was very comfortable. The only negative things I have to say is that it is probably time to replace the carpet in this cottage, but otherwise very clean and comfortable. Also, there is a bit of a noise factor from the cottage down below. It was strange to hear the people BELOW us, so we tried to tread lightly to be as quiet as possible for them as well. The view is beautiful, the hosts are fantastic. Didn't bother us, but were there when we needed. Joe, the resident cat is the friendliest guy around. The hosts accurately describe him as "aggressively affectionate". He was a pleasure to have come and visit us. We will definitely stay here on our next cross country visit. read more

Wow Sunset Marine Resort! Words don't express what a paradise this was for our family of 5. The cabins were beautiful, SUPER clean, and so comfy and welcoming. I loved the hominess and antiques, and yet there was no clutter or messiness. Tracie and Lavon were beautiful and gracious hostesses who dropped what they were doing whenever we needed anything, shared their time and amenities with us, but also left us alone when we wanted to have quality family time. Our cabin was right over the water with a fire pit right off the deck, and a gorgeous kitchen, fully stocked with everything my chef hubbie could possibly need. This property is stunning and the cabins and the owners are icing on the cake. Thank you so much ladies for taking such great care of us, and for letting us bring the dog! There is a perfectly reasonable extra charge for dogs, and she had a blast, and her little paws are all better from the barnacles on the beach. I almost didn't want to mention the barnacles on the rocks, because Tracie and Levon might try to bring in sand - and Sunset Marine Resort is perfect just the way it is! read more

Just finished our second stay at SMR, and it was as wonderful as the first time. This time a larger family group stayed at the Boat House and everything was amazing. Tracie and Lavon are fantastic! The Boat House is the way to go and it was spotless and well equipped. This is such a gorgeous location which only makes things even more amazing. We had a fun filled days of walking on the beach, good food (prepped in the great kitchen), and hours of relaxation. We learned about this place last year after a write up in Sunset magazine and stayed at The Landing, which was also just lovely. Tracie and Lavon let us look around the The Boat House and we decided we had to come back and stay there. Totally worth it. We appreciated the solitude but Tracie and Lavon also went above and beyond. If you are looking for an amazing, laid back get away, this is the spot. I want quiet. I want rustic. I want a stunning view. I want to look for crabs under rocks on the beach. I want to be able to sit outside and sip coffee in the AM, looking at calm water. I want to have a fire in the evening and roast marshmallows. It's all here. The beds are comfy and the cabins are charming, but I'm not hanging out all day inside. I'm enjoying the view in front of me. Love this place and we will be back. read more
