We bought the grits and cornmeal that had been freshly done the day before. The restroom was locked when I went (has number pad for the campers ) So we had to ask for it to b unlocked. The restroom was very nice . They have a covered bridge and peaceful trails. The trails unfortunately are not marked very well at all. We were afraid we would get lost so we didn't stay in the woods much. They have a camp ground for RVS and plenty of space . You can bring a tent :) Nice, little side trip w/ a bit of history.

A couple miles down the road I crossed paths with yet another sign for Kymulga, to which I kept driving. But then it started weighing on my mind and I decided to GPS it to see how far away it was. 5 miles...I'm early for my meeting, let's give this a try. Arriving at the park they have very reasonable rates ($3.00) and the place (considering it is the dead of winter) is really quite pretty. Only explored for a few minutes, since I needed to get back on the road, but they have disk golf and hiking along with fishing (license is required). Several picnic benches located around the covered bridge. Would make for a fun spot to go do additional exploring. Will definitely plan a day trip here....plus based on the other Yelp reviews there seems to be some good BBQ in the area.

There's also a nice sized pavilion that can be used to have lunch or prep yourself before hitting the trails. Prepare yourself for an UPHILL trek! There's an easy peasy beginner trail that makes a small loop, but the trails begin to branch off once you make it up the initial hill. Thankfully the trails are well maintained, so the hill is pretty level, but it is very steep! People also ride horses in the park so watch out for poop.

At a riverbend, it is a naturalistically interesting area, though floodwaters rendered the river itself off limits. The visitor center was small and I found the exhibitions sparse. Some people were gathering near the entrance for a party in the picnic area, while the main part of the park requested no celebrations out of respect for the history. It is a good subject to learn about, but the amount of stuff there versus the distance that you'd have to drive from any metropolitan area wasn't huge.

This is very small quaint school hiking trail. With an outdoor walking track and basket ball court…read morein the middle. It is ideal for small groups and family members. There is a playground on the outside for public use. They have a picnic area. Not sure if I saw grills. No public restrooms though. This would be nice to just come and take a walk while the kids play. You can also arrange for a small picnic. The benches are covered.

Ruffner Mountain was a great stop during our four‑day girls hiking trip in Alabama. Even with a shorter hike, we were still able to experience and enjoy the park and its trails. My favorite part was Cambrian Overlook. Even though I'm scared of heights, I knew I had to push myself to the edge of the cliff to take in the view--and I'm so glad I did. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and worth every bit of bravery it took to snap a photo. If I find myself back in the area, I would definitely be open to returning and exploring more of what the park has to offer. It's a beautiful spot and a great option for hikers of all levels.
