The whole park is literally over run with geese! My daughter could not even go to the playground because it smelled awful and there probably wasn't a single inch of ground that wasn't pooped on. The playground equipment is very old on top of that and was a nasty wet mess. The lake water is the nastiest I have ever seen. I got in it once and immediately regretted it and went to take a hot shower. My daughter (who is 2) accidentally swallowed some of the water while swimming and ended up throwing up multiple times the next day. On top of all this, the bathhouses are FILTHY, in the women's side there were used razors, wads of hair, mold, an awful smell, and toilets that were unusable! My Dad and Husband said the men's toilets were the same way on the men's side. Also, we found many many hooks just laying on the ground. We also found old lures with fishing line everywhere just waiting for someome to step on them! (A goose we saw actually had a hook and line in its mouth!) This place needs a major cleanup. We will never be back and wish someone would have warned us before we wasted a camping trip here.

Half standing structures. Old abandoned buildings that look creepily intact. Bricks and windows…read moreready to fall apart. Out of nowhere some random stones and monuments. All 200 years old. Right away, I'm already engineering ideas and solutions in my mind to make this place more worth your time. Because it's an anthropologist's dream come true. A real ghost town. Legit eery looking stuff. But unless you are watching Nick Cage track down the treasure 'round here you are faced with too many things that frustrate your experience. It's not worth the drive. I get that Alabama's first state capital was carved out of the wilderness. BUT now that it's a present day state park they could do a better job carving out the roadways and walking paths. With map in hand, I drove halfway down to see several sites but the road was just too littered with big branches and rocks and who knows what else. Did a storm just blow through here? Unless you roll in with your 350 this road just doesn't work for visitors to pass through. I'm bummed that I had to turn around and miss more creepy stuff. Fix that. You have to stay off the grass. And there's so much of it. Is there a way to manage it a little bit? Well.. Ecologists celebrate ....because yes of course I stayed off the grass. But now how am I supposed to approach and see the speck of an image that is advertised. Bring binoculars. Don't harm the environment..but I wish there was some sort of path to see the old church (the one you CAN'T really see) and industrial towers (the ones that are the size of your thumb). Come here during halloween, folks. Shivering right now. When it gets into your head..it can be real creepy. Oh, and bring cash. Unless you carry checks any more the entrance fee is cash-only.

We got here a little late due to the distance that we did not realize we had to drive. Make sure you allot yourself at least two hours to roam the quarters if you are an inquisitive bunch like we are! There is a lot to see and you have to drive around in order to get to each spot. The houses that have been preserved are so cool to look at! We spent a significant amount of time viewing each home and seeing how they were built while reading the placards outside of each point. Note: The lake behind or in between the park is really beautiful. Don't miss it! Tip: get here well before dark because when it gets dark, IT GETS PITCH DARK! Even our headlights were not as helpful as they could've been had we not been in those thick woods so late. Would I recommend? Absolutely! I already have. Will I be back? I plan to! I didn't get to see everything.

It doesn't look like much on the outside. The parking area is large and gravel covered. They have handicapped parking right next to the bridge that is the entrance to the park. The bridge crosses Goose Pond Creek. People often fish from the bridge or just prop up to take in the peaceful flow of water and see if they can glimpse the fish below. The park just received an update. The much used, cracked and broken walking trail has been re-paved and looks wonderful, cutting through the grass, trees, and flowers. Multiple benches line the walk way, providing nice shady spaces to relax or read. Lamps provide light for late afternoon to late night visitors. Also on the walking trail are a set of restrooms that are usually clean. There is plenty of room to play here, among the trees. Look closely and you may find a Kindness Rock. For those unfamiliar with these little happy pick me ups, Kindness Rocks are rocks or pavers that people paint positive happy artwork on and hide for others to find and collect. The idea is that one message, at the right time, can change someone's entire day, outlook, life. Some are quite beautiful. There are Facebook groups dedicated to giving clues where to find them. Come try to find some or paint your own and leave them in the park to brighten someone's day. Squirrels are plentiful, here, and almost tame. They are used to visitors bringing them peanuts and will follow you. The park has a nice pavilion for picnics or parties. It's quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately, if you have a dog, they can not accompany you across the bridge, into the main park. Dogs are more than welcome on the long walking trail right before you cross the bridge to your right, though. It will take you straight across to the city park, which has a children's playground, pavilion, walking trail, picnic tables, base ball fields, tennis courts, and disk golf. Goose Pond Park stays pretty busy. There are usually people walking the trails anytime you visit. The shade from the trees gives welcome relief from the heat in the Summer. I highly recommend you check it out.

He opened the store for us and he filled us in on the history of the place and showed us how the mill worked. It was very interesting to us. The restroom was very nice . They have a covered bridge and peaceful trails. The trails unfortunately are not marked very well at all. We were afraid we would get lost so we didn't stay in the woods much. They have a camp ground for RVS and plenty of space . You can bring a tent :) Nice, little side trip w/ a bit of history.

I thought to myself that sounds kind of cool and kept driving. A couple miles down the road I crossed paths with yet another sign for Kymulga, to which I kept driving. But then it started weighing on my mind and I decided to GPS it to see how far away it was. 5 miles...I'm early for my meeting, let's give this a try. Arriving at the park they have very reasonable rates ($3.00) and the place (considering it is the dead of winter) is really quite pretty. Only explored for a few minutes, since I needed to get back on the road, but they have disk golf and hiking along with fishing (license is required). Several picnic benches located around the covered bridge. Would make for a fun spot to go do additional exploring. Will definitely plan a day trip here....plus based on the other Yelp reviews there seems to be some good BBQ in the area.
