It's a funny thing I never thought to review Dunstan Dental. Shame on me My wife & I have been coming here for give or take 15 years +/-. Our dentist Dr. Nichol is the best !!!, followed by Dr. Doug who happens to be married to her. This office is thriving with multiple dentists, technicians & office staff. The office seems to be busy all the time. I recommend using Dunstan Dental for all your dental needs. Today I spent 3.5 hours in the chair having multiple procedures done. Todays invoice was a choker for sure but God Bless dental insurance picking up 50% of the invoice. It seems like I must come out of retirement & get a job to pay the bill. Only kidding but going to the dentist is not an inexpensive proposition. read more

Ever since Shannon left the practice has not had quality service. The way I was treated by the office manager was not honorable by any practice. This practice doesn't work with you instead they play the blame game when all I wanted was a constructive conversation they place judgment and if they hear something they don't want to hear they get snippy. Great dental health should be at the very least every 6 months in some cases every 3 months. They said they are short staffed for the reason why an established patient is scheduled every 9-15 months out. That isn't preventative care and does not hold value. The manager had the nerve to call me combative however she was the one who was combative when I was telling her it shouldn't be a 9 months wait. Perfect example of another practice not caring about patients. read more

Normally I'm quite nervous about dental care,In fact only the pain of a lost filling brought me to this office for my initial visit. So it really was a surprise to me how easy, and pain free my appointment went,this despite needing to be referred for a root canal! Everyone was just so friendly and good at their job that it put me at ease during my visit and gave me confidence in the quality/necessity of treatments both received and recommended. While I will never say that I look forward to going to the dentist, Dunstan Dental has repeatedly exceeded my expectations. They are truly customer focused. They have been on time for every appointment, which is amazing in today's world. They are open on Fridays and on days surrounding holidays, which was a wonderful thing when I had an emergency. They have always managed to fit me in when I had an emergency. Their staff is well trained and very efficient. They go out of their way to make patients as comfortable as possible during every procedure. They are considerate of how much patients can afford and insurance limits when developing a treatment plan. They do not do the hard sell on getting discretionary work done. Dunstan Dental has been on my "need to review" list for a few months, but I just haven't gotten around to it (kind of like how you probably haven't gotten around to that routine cleaning, eh?). I first became a patient at Dunstan Dental about 5 years ago (seriously? how does time pass so quickly?) on the recommendation of a coworker. I had lived in the Saco-Biddeford area for about a year but hadn't found a dentist yet and really needed to do so quickly. I now live outside Portland but still make the hike down to Dunstan Dental every few months to visit Shannon (my hygienist) and the lovely family doctor team (over the years, I have had fillings and evaluations from Dr. Penna, Dr. Kouzounas, and also their daughter Nichol). Even though I pass plenty of dentist offices along the way, I happily go the extra mile to Dunstan Dental because of the awesome people, the quality care, and the amazing service. I feel like I've grown up with some of the people in the office, from meeting a new boyfriend to getting engaged and married, to expecting our first child. I've seen my hygenist have her first daughter and my doctor preparing for her daughter's upcoming wedding... by the time my appointment is over, I feel like I have spent an hour catching up with old friends, not in the dreaded dentist's chair! In the last few years, they've upgraded the offices to be much larger to accommodate more patients and also be more comfortable. One of the things I love most about Dunstan is that you'll always get an estimate of charges for your next visit and a list of priority items to take care of. They work hard to make sure you are getting full value from your dental insurance every year. The family also strongly supports the community with initiatives like "Dentists Who Care", where they perform free services for those without insurance or the means to pay for a tooth extraction, cleaning, or filling. I do try to make my appointments in the morning because they often get behind by the afternoon, but it has been much better since they've added two more doctors. They also have a small block of appointments available for Saturday mornings, but you better book well in advance! read more

I became a patient at Dunstan nearly 5 years ago after my family moved to Maine from Massachusetts and I've had exclusively very positive experiences there. The receptionists are friendly, the waiting area welcoming, and the dental professionals pleasant and thoughtful. I now get all routine cleanings and other as-needed treatment at Dunstan, seeing Dr. Sirois. One thing I really appreciate is that they are so conscious of my time. I rarely wait for more than five minutes in the waiting room or for the doctor to see me after a cleaning. They also have Saturday hours which is so great for those who have trouble fitting appointments into the workweek. They were very welcoming of my young daughter who was going to be having her first cleaning - my hygienist welcomed her to attend my cleaning with me so she could see what the environment and process are like. They saw my older child a few times before determining that anxiety for him really necessitated a pediatric dental specialist, at which point they happily referred us to another provider who could provide that level of care. I'm very pleased with Dunstan Dental and recommend them to all my friends in the greater Portland area. read more

I've been a patient at DDC for almost 20 years. The office staff is the finest I've come in contact with. They are professional, friendly, courteous and welcoming. I see Dr. Sirois who always puts me at ease. She's always smiling and always makes sure I'm comfortable. She, and her assistant, Lynn, are professional, knowledgeable and very easy to chat with. I walked in and instantly got the aquarium vibe. There's a sea turtle roaming in a beautiful tank in the waiting area! How cool is that, right? This dental center is superb! I go there for routine cleaning and check ups when needed. I absolutely and positively recommend Dr. Penna for a dentist because he is professional, truthful, and lets you know what needs to be done for your teeth. This is my first review ever. I am completely dissatisfied with the service, or lack thereof. More than 7 months ago, I called this practice and explained in no uncertain terms that I had a chipped front tooth that needed to be repaired. They scheduled an appointment for me 3 months later. I went in fully expecting the tooth to be repaired when I left. I ended up going in and getting a light cleaning (which I didn't need, but apparently they just like to bill your insurance) and then I was told they did not have time to fix the tooth. They then proceeded to schedule me another appointment to have my tooth fixed an additional 3 months down the road. That's right folks, 6 MONTHS WAIT to have a tooth fixed. During the waiting period the too started to rot extensively and require major work. The morning of the scheduled appointment I had to have emergency surgery due to my gallbladder being removed. I arrived at my appointment at the scheduled time but did inform them I had had anesthesia that morning, and they stated they were very busy that day, and would prefer to reschedule my appointment again another 3 months down the road. The dentists here should be ashamed of their repulsive business practices and lack of compassion for their patients. Called this dental office in regards to a procedure (that I called about a week ago, and no one returned my call) and in trying to schedule this appointment the front desk associate asked me if I could pay for it. After explaining to her that I could, which it's none of her business anyway, she continued to tell me that it was a very expensive procedure and that she wanted to make sure her dentists got paid. I have been a patient many times before and do not owe this business any money. Many of my family members also visit this office. One of which was refused service after expressing his feelings about a hurtful comment made by his dentist. She returned his large deposit and told him she could not work with him. Terrible. read more
