This monument area is definitely better to visit during the summer. I came here at 10am just walking thru and there wasn't a soul. And it's appeared to have been deserted ever since the big snowstorm of 2026. The walkways and sidewalks surrounding the park are generally clear of snow but not a lot. None of the park benches or the area surrounding the monument has been cleared either. Of course the main fountain has been turned off from water as this would be expected this time of the year. I've spent way more time here in the summers of the past and I think it's because the park goers used to be much more fun. Other than that, the DC Park Service does a pretty decent job maintains the park and it's very centrally located in the city. I would definitely recommend anyone from out-of-town to come and see the place.

This area is super hopping especially on nice days. This neighborhood seems to be safe, a lot of young professionals love and work in this area too I have noticed and read. There are many restaurant's of all types of food to choose from and a lot of them have outdoor seating for nice days. Can be noisy on weekends I have read too. Nice area to walk around and shop too as there are some stores. There is a metro stop here so you can get to anywhere.

Circles are plentiful in this city. Dupont Circle is one of the best known. It's almost in the middle of the city, located near a very big Metro station. A lot of cool things to do here because it's one of the hippest neighborhoods. There's many restaurants and stores. It basically is the area around a big traffic circle. Main streets here are Connecticut Avenue, Massachusetts Avenue, and P Street. One highlight is the small park right in the middle of this. It's the main gathering spot in this neighborhood for various festivals. There's a large statue of Samuel Francis Dupont, who is an important figure in the creation of the city, and there's a fountain too. A few notable businesses include Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe. It also is a site for many festivals. There's always something happening every weekend.

We were in the area for lunch and decided to walk around Dupont Circle. Nice place to walk around, enjoy the trees, look at the birds, sit on a bench and relax. There is a fountain in the middle of the circle. Some good eats can be found around here as well. Enjoy!

Ok. I'm going to break down and finally review the circle. The traffic circle around this park is one of the more confusing traffic implements in the city that I suspect I would baffle even a British person used to a double roundabouts. Just take the Metro there. The park in the center of the circle is a surprisingly quiet (relatively) and shady park. For all the traffic going around the circle, it actually manages to be a place where you can chill out on a nice day. There are benches surrounding the fountain where you can people watch. There are more benches located around the path ringing the fountain along with a few tabletop chess/checkerboards (bring your own pieces). The entire park is very grassy and shady. The downside is that you will have some of the homeless population asking for money repeatedly and occasionally washing up in the fountain. There used to be a huge rat population that has declined but not entirely gone away since the city took over management from the NPS. Sometimes, in the evenings, you can still see a couple of rats frolicking on the grass in a pale imitation of the days when there would be dozens scattered around enjoying the twilight. Hey, they're happy with the park also. All in all, this is an enjoyable urban park to sit in and enjoy your coffee/tea or snack from one of the many shops in the immediate area.

Dupont Circle is a beautiful roundabout we used to try to get a peek at some of the Embassies along Embassy Row. In the center is a very ornate fountain surrounded by trees. One of the downsides is when you are driving around it you could end up on the wrong Ave like we did and had to return to it twice just to get on the right street. I'm sure there are park benches there as well. We saw a Metro stop nearby and although we were driving didn't know it was there. Time did not permit us to stop there but I did try to capture the moment while stopped at a light. We discovered it was right next to a very trendy area which is a must return for us since it was so close to where we were staying. I was glad I got to opportunity to see it a grab a picture.

After eating an early dinner nearby, we came to sit for a few minutes in Dupont Circle and relax. The fountain was beautiful, and the benches were comfortable- we had a lot of fun people watching. After a few minutes, we realized that 90% of the other people sitting around the larger circle were homeless people. We sat and watched a man in a suit feed people food to a squirrel. It was adorable- the squirrel would come up close to the man, stare at him, the man would give him some food, and the squirrel would just sit there and eat it while staring at him- all within inches of the man. After watching this for a few minutes, I pointed out the biggest rat I've ever seen running around the green. After we saw that, we decided to leave quickly. On our way out, we realized the big holes in the dirt next to the benches were from the rats. Yuck.

Dupont Circle does not make sense to most tourists unless they are being guided. Yes it's full of various attractions but most people don't know what's behind its history nor inside so time is consumed. DuPont Circle being a neighborhood is full of local history and local art centers for this area. Many of these attractions are free of charge for touring...When? Embassy Row might make sense to some tourists that also has a visitors day. Tourists short on time won't gain much from this trendy neighborhood except maybe higher class eating. I like the local style of the bizzy buildings on Connecticut Avenue wile I see the tall fountain in the park circle as unappealing though festive at evenings. After dark it could be interesting to see where the bum groups choose to sleep around the circle.

Dupont Circle itself may be the best circle in all of Washington, DC. Centrally located by the Dupont Circle Metro station, a plethora of great restaurants, and the gateway to some of the city's best embassies, Dupont Circle is a gathering place for all types of people. On a casual weekend, you'll find people reading on the benches, children splashing their feet in the fountain, and more seasoned DC residents playing chess along the park.

When in doubt... Meet at Dupont Circle. There's tons to do here. Coffee shops, a tea house, bookstores, ethnic restaurants, hang out at the fountain, a dance studio, ice cream (Larry's!), lounges, bus to Georgetown, people watch, and even a sex shop! :O Tips: Bad parking and bloody rotary streets!! #$#!%#@ Take the metro instead.

A few days ago, my friend and I hang out in DuPont, my neck of the wood, my favorite area in town, we saw this interesting but rare view. No washing machine and dryer while staying at the hotel? And no time and money to bring it to the dry cleaning? No problem. Wash it with hands and hang it by the hotel window! It will dry overnight! :) Perhaps I shouldn't be surprise with what I found, since I said it in many of my reviews about my DuPont. Anything could happen here! In DuPont Wonderland! :) Well as I say, What Happen in DuPont stays in DuPont!

Although my experiences here are limited, they have been positive ones. On one particular occassion, I strolled the small and character filled streets and storefronts, en route to Dolcezza for gelato, the second I lesiurely read a book in the acclaimed circle, and yet another, at a more frenzied pace, searched for hello cupcake. No matter the reason, or the season, it's always a nice place to people watch, stretch out your legs, and maybe try a new culinary delight. read more

I usually stay in DuPont Circle when visiting DC with friends. There are a ton of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Also, visitors can walk to some monuments. The neighborhood in DuPont Circle is beautiful. There are a variety of different hotels in the area. I enjoy the nice atmosphere in DuPont Circle during warm months. It's easy access to the metro station. Traffic and parking can be a hassle at times (avoid during rush hour if you can). DuPont Circle is a great place to enjoy while visiting Washington DC. read more

It's pretty much a round about or road that goes in a circle to direct and control traffic. There's some other things to see in the area but it's most known for the traffic and sort of getting stuck going around in circles and then going the wrong direction. read more

While it is no longer the heart of DC's gay and lesbian neighborhood, Dupont Circle is still home to plenty of high end retailers, food and beverage establishments, embassies, museums, bookstores, etc. The traffic circle itself is a great place to people watch! read more

I love Dupont Circle. I came here on a thursday, late afternoon. I was on a mission to play ball with some friends. We visited Saxby's coffee for a little treat then stopped into the CVS to grab some balls for our adventure. Finally it was time to play. The circle was modestly crowded but we had plenty of space to toss the ball (four of us). Interesting characters here. Someone came an took our pictures and then a quartet began playing some excellent Vince Guaraldi and perhaps Benny Goodman? That evening on Dupont Circle was like from a movie. I never knew such a place- such a melting pot of a park- could exist. It was one of those time in life where the world is exactly how you want it and you didn't have a care in the world. read more

I spend alot of my time at Dupont Circle, just due to the fact that I work in the neighborhood. It's really nice especially during the spring and the fall. There's the park that has a large fountain as its centerpiece. The park has plenty of benches to sit at, have lunch, or read a book. Dupont Circle has a great selection of restaurants and bars to choose from, everything from Greek to Thai to Mexican. The neighborhood does attract the "well-off" crowd with its expensive boutique clothing shops. Like other DC neighborhoods, Dupont Circle has become a victim of its own popularity, becoming even more commercialized. Fortunately national chains haven't completely ruined the neighborhood. read more

I think there are about 4,000 Starbucks within 2 blocks of this circle. The circle itself is a nice little park area with a diversity of people, from the homeless my drunken friend accidentally made out with, to the protesters for some unknown event, to the people just having a picnic in the middle of a traffic circle. I love this place for the people watching as much as I love ocean drive back in Miami. But the circle is ore of a neighborhood then just the traffic circle, and here you will find some great places to eat, shop, and browse. Kramer books to the north side has its own cafe, Luna's on the south side has some of the best food in NW DC, great bars like Front Page to have drinks in, and of course the Scientology head quarters which you can actually take guided tours of. I lived in this neighborhood years ago, and what I like most is the convenience to the metro and the surrounding fun neighborhoods, the running routes, and Rock Creek Park. I was just back here, and it has not seemed to change at all. All of the stores are still filled, a few restaurants have changed names, but it looks (and I am guessing only looks) like the economic collapse has not touched the area. I would to say this is the best family friendly stop on a tourist DC trip, but if the little kids are not in tow, it would make for a pleasant break from the Mall and the museums. read more

DuPont has a long history that I know little about but I know there used to be a train that ran through the park. These days you'll find local hipsters lounging about the park on the grass, benches or steps of the fountain. One cool recent addition is the wireless connection that is available in the park. It's spotty, but it works pretty well. read more

I love living here -- it's odd because the quality of the stores leaves a lot to be desired -- and while there are a lot of great restaurants, there are a lot of mediocre places as well.....but there is just something that makes this one of my favorite neighborhoods in DC. read more

dupont circle is by far one of the best 'hoods in DC to check out eclectic restaurants, get lost in kramer's, the homey independent book store, or head down embassy row. the dupont circle itself is a great public space to sit down and people watch or have a good conversation with a friend. this neighborhood has a lot of character and a great feel to it. a must visit. read more

They should officially rename this "Rat Circle". Good God, there are rats galore that run through this place, especially at night. Visiting from Chicago, I can say I've taken for granted the Chicago Park District's wonderful park maintenance. Dupont Circle's green space is unsightly and underwhelming; the rat problem at a minimum is a health hazard. 2 stars for its prime location to a bustling area of DC. read more

I am absolutely in love with this area. This is the second time we have stayed here, and I seriously want to move in! There is a beautiful park area right in the center of the circle. There are tons of restaurants and places to shop...some of the best food I have ever eaten has been in the DuPont Circle area. I just adore it! It is a great locale if you want to be able to walk to everything, including the monuments. It is about a 2 mile walk, and it is a beautiful one! I highly recommend staying here during Cherry Blossom season. read more

It's the definitely the right place for me to live in DC. I feel safe, the neighborhood is gay and liberal (although mostly gay men and small dogs, less lesbians - sad for me, haha). The stores are expensive but I don't shop here - I just live, walk, go to Soho, have farmers market on Sundays, run into people, have a great location, have access to a great Metro, read Walt Whitman down the escalator on the way to work in the morning. It's worth my rent. Yay. read more

I live right between Dupont and Woodley Park (yeah Kalorama!) and I think we really have the best of DC. Dupont is a busy, diverse, quintessentially city neighborhood. The restaurants and shopping can be a little expensive but you can't beat the people watching! There's a nice (pricey) farmer's market on the weekends and plenty of landmarks to admire, plus the great bordering neighborhoods of U-Street and Adams Morgan. Bars, food, bookstores, groceries...and a great Whitman quote on the metro. read more

Yes I will jog here at 7p in the rain! This place is gorgeous and is a beautiful neighborhood! There are tons of restaurant options and this place is lively! It's clean and lots of cute places! Most restaurants look like they used to be a house turned restaurant. There are lots of people, shopping, bikers, and is a great place to people watch! read more

I think there are still some interesting pieces to Dupont, but it's changed since I first got to DC. Still feels like a gay hub, but feels a lot more yuppie now. My Dupont mainstays (Kramers, Five Guys, etc) are still there, but overall the trip is less exciting than it used to be. During the day it's definitely a chill place to hang out, but I can't quite get over the homeless invasion at night. Or maybe I just attract them, who knows? read more

Dupont Circle is one of my favorite spots in Washington DC. Centrally located and close to almost every type of restaurant, shop, bar, club, or hotel imaginable. I really enjoy spending time here, sitting near the fountain in a great place to people watch. Dupont Circle is also dog friendly with a grassy area in the roundabout for the pooches. Theres always something to do here and the vibrant atmosphere makes for an adventerous time. You simply cannot come to the Nations capital and not visit Dupont Circle. read more

One of the reasons why I'm loving D.C. I love this little area & how I can sit and people watch or read while fattening my fat with hot krispy kremes dripping with glazey goodness....focus... Ok, Dupont Circle! I love it when I'm walking or taking the metro, but I want to throw firey rocks when I'm driving... I've gotten lost so many times...I just can't anymore. But Why are you in ALL my directions! Damn you google maps! I really don't see how DC people understand all the loops and confusing circles around town...maybe I'll get used to it, but I doubt it. :-( read more

I've never had a bad time in Dupont Circle. Great restaurants, great shops to explore, and great places to people watch. The first time you venture here it can be a tad bit overwhelming, especially if you're from an area like Capitol Hill, where things are a little more spread out. No worries though; as long as you take in a few things at a time it will be an enjoyable experience. Definitely check out The Pleasure Place! read more

To me there is nothing more DC than taking a pause from your day to soak up some sunshine amidst the rush of DuPont circle. It feels like a little bit of an oasis. It's in the heart of the gayborhood and surrounded by so much business it truly knits together a cross-section of the district. read more

I can see how if you live in DC this would be a great place to chill and relax but from a tourist standpoint, it's nothing special, just a circular park located in the middle of what seems to be a cute shopping district. I wouldn't go out of my way to check it out but I can imagine this being a very pleasant place to hang out. read more

I go to school here, and I don't find it to be the most appealing neighborhood in the city, but it serves. Restaurants and shops are easily accessible, and the metro's right there on the spot. Overall, a nice place, but I wouldn't want to live in the area. read more

Fun and relaxing space. Grab a sandwich or coffee at a nearby shop and just sit and enjoy. You only notice the traffic when you are crossing the street. Once inside the space is tree lined with an outer ring of benches and then an enter ring of benches with the focal fountain in the center. read more

Lots of restaurants, bars, bookstores, etc. Full of people and very lively. There's a Metro station so very convenient. The actual circle in the middle is a park and benches to sit and people watch. One of my more liked areas of DC. read more

The area around Dupont Circle is where the cool kids go. Not kidding. It is more accessible than Georgetown but has great restaurants and shops. Make sure to walk down to 17th between P and R for even more and even cooler. And because of all the diplomats and their staffs, conversations in 50 languages. read more

Yes, Ariana Grande is a good answer, but I was looking for the Executive Office on 17th St! A long time ago, the love of my life used to say that this building was the highlight of her trips to DC, and I can see why. I remember walking with her in the pouring rain next to it, and taking pictures of her exposing herself in front of it. Times change... But this building never did. It's glorious and resplendent. It reminds me of something in France, but better kept, perhaps. It looks palatial. If the White House is a little underwhelming then this executive office is completely awe-inspiring. It's level with the Capitol as my favourite building in the DC area, and is the easiest 5-star rating I've given since my Cousin Daniel got drunk and showed me the ropes.

So we decided to take pictures in front of the Executive Office of the President where the FRONT of this architecture was much more impressive than the BACK of the White House on Pennsylvania Ave. Still a great experience to roam DC and take in the history and political side of the US. (You don't get much of that or appreciate it as much coming from the west coast. Hence, the ignorance of the FRONT vs the BACK of the WHITE HOUSE. =X)

My first attempt was unsuccessful because I Googled…read more"Blair House" and the address in Google took me to was in a really ghetto neighborhood which was apparently the Blair House DC Shelter, not to be confused with... the Blair House, guest accommodations for The President. Also, the picture on here submitted may be deceiving, this is not a stand alone building it is actually sandwiched between two red bricked edifices. It is disappointing that there are no tours and when I went they were restoring the front of it so it was hard to even see that I was in the right place with all of the construction frame and fencing around it. I was mostly there just to get a picture standing in front by the plaque but wasn't even able to accomplish that. You could tell there was a significant amount of security "interest" on the premises because there were cameras and officers standing closely nearby. Since I couldn't go in, and couldn't get a decent picture I'm rating this place just A-OK, it does, after all, have some serious historical significance.

Lots of beautiful stores and a nice 1 mile trail that's dog friendly. Mind you, I recommend hiking shoes and not just sneakers since a lot of it is uphill. Would love to visit again and maybe stay in town just for a weekend getaway. People were very friendly and it's a good break from city life.

I think I finally figured out the difference between the Bush Administration EEOB staff and the Obama Administration EEOB staff. In the Bush Admin the women wore pointier shoes with higher heels. Other than that they look to be clones of each other. Extra credit point: EEOB has the cleanest restrooms in DC. At least the mens rooms are.

This is a once a year event for only two days that is free to the public that allowed us to get an up close look at the White House Gardens /grounds and the outside of the White House to include a chance to see the presidential limousine "the beast". The grounds were absolutely beautiful and it was a real treat, possibly once in a lifetime, to be so close to the White House. NICE!!! As this trip was with our grandkids it gave us a great deal of satisfaction of being able to share such a memorable and lifelong memory with them. it is truly nice to see times like this when our government offers up such unique viewing opportunities to the general public.

There are several ways to get to the top - purchase a ticket in advance from the website, try to get one on site (I don't recommend that), or you can use a tour site like Viator or Get Your Guide. It's something I believe everyone should do at least once, but it's cramped and there are small windows at the top that aren't the cleanest, so, it was somewhat disappointing from what I remember. Walking around outside the monument and enjoying the lawn and surrounding area are 1000% a must and worth it.

I found the structure itself surprisingly simple, but that simplicity is what makes it feel so massive and recognizable against the skyline. The huge open lawn surrounding it gives the area a spacious feeling, and from almost every angle I could see other major landmarks lined up around it, especially the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol in the distance. Even with large crowds moving through the area, the space never felt too compressed because everything around the monument is so wide open. Going up inside the monument completely changed my perspective. The elevator ride was short and smooth, and once I reached the top, the observation windows gave me a panoramic view over all of Washington. Looking down at the Reflecting Pool, the National Mall, and the rows of museums made the city layout feel incredibly intentional. I visited around sunset, and the views became even more dramatic once the monuments and streets started lighting up across the city. The atmosphere around the monument constantly shifted throughout my visit. In the morning there were runners and quieter crowds walking through the grass, while later in the afternoon the area filled with tourists, school groups, and people sitting around the lawn. Even with the steady activity, the monument still managed to feel calm because of how open everything is around it. Seasonal festivals and events nearby also made the space feel active without taking attention away from the monument itself.
