I was entrenched in the college admissions mania with a 9 year career with the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Foundation. I had the privilege of being an Advisor to three Scholarship recipients who were Trinity graduates. These young leaders were poised and successful. They had a strong sense character that demonstrated maturity and integrity in the way they interacted with others. They realized the value of reflection and had the ability to articulate their opinions in a respectful way - open to hearing and learning from others' perspectives. They had a strong sense of self and purpose about how they were spending their time. These things marked a different type of college applicant and mature young adult. Simply put, these values and motivations of these Trinity graduates reflected the young women my husband and I aspire to launch into the "real world" someday. We were impressed by current Trinity students too as it was clear they had a deep desire to explore, better understand, develop, and most importantly share their gifts with the world. But likely what we fell in love with the most was the mission-driven authenticity and warmth. There's something about knowing that the place where your children will spend so much of their childhood and young adulthood aligns with your core values as a family. It's a gift for our children and our family - and one for which I'm forever grateful. *In full transparency, I currently work at Trinity School so I won't claim to be unbiased. Montessori schools can be a crap shoot since Miss Montessori in her infinite wisdom never trademarked her school name or philosophy. So any joker can call themselves a Montessori school. There are a few in Chapel Hill like this. However this school is a legit Montessori school. It's accredited by one of the big Montessori organizations and they take their training seriously there. I think all of the teachers are Montessori certified, most of the helpers too. What really impressed me on the tour was that all the teachers have been there for many years. They're all really dedicated to the children and letting them explore their world. The facilities are ridiculously nice. They have wonderful playgrounds and the middle school is new. They have a new music and art building which is amazingly nice. You get what you pay for in this case. They have very active parents who organize multiple fundraisers for the school. I've got no reservations about sending my son here.

If you have a child with ADHD or autism or anything like that I would recommend a private school, but if you can't afford that, then honestly stick with this school because it's better than Chapel Hill High, which doesn't say much.

Both our children have attended STM since kindergarten (over 9 years!), and we've been very happy with the education they've received, as well as the community of parents, most of whom are happy to volunteer with the school's many extra-curricular activities and events. Eighth grade graduation this past June was very poignant for all. The children dispersed to half dozen or so high schools in the area, with our child going to a public high school in Chapel Hill. Our child's grades at STM were not at the top of the class, but I'm pleased to report that for the first quarter in a Chapel Hill high school, "As" were received in honors Math, honors English, honors Biology, honors World History, and honors Spanish (as well as in gym and art)! Moreover, and almost equally important, our child has seamlessly managed the social transition from a relatively small Catholic school with small classes to a very large public school with much larger classes. We are very pleased with the academic - and moral -- preparation STM has provided our children, and we feel the academic rigor and discipline offered by STM have played a significant role in our child's relatively easy academic transition to a large public high school. We're also very happy with school's leadership, which most skillfully steered STM through the rocks and shoals of COVID times, and has brought on board -- and retained -- excellent teachers.

Number 1 the teachers at school give you silent lunch for no reason. Like my friend was stuck on a…read moremath question and the math teacher gave me silent lunch for talking during quiet time and she said that the reason I got silent lunch was for helping my friend. Like what? But PE is fun and the students are nice. The lunches are so much better now, providing actual chicken and biscuits. Im still disappointed at the silent lunch problem and I hope that math teacher can find a better way of correcting a student.

I feel they have no right to say that because they did not pay for the bag. She always runs and wines to the assistant principal after. Most of the challengers students do not like her. Saying she targets them while others get her sweet treatment. She makes the kids feel stupid! The gym teacher ms babson is very rude telling kids they did something wrong when they were doing just fine. This gave my son severe anxiety and has panic attacks everyday before school.

Once I looked at the clock in history class and there was a bumper sticker above it that said Chapel Hill High School: TASTE THIN BEETS. Extra star for cancelling school even for the least little bit of ice falling from the sky. Extra 1/2 star for cancelling school for a week after Hurricane Fran. Minus one star for not including my middle name on my high school diploma. Oh, were you looking for a helpful review? Oops. Um, Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools are renowned across the state for high quality and well-qualified teachers. Much cheaper than shelling out for Durham Academy, and you get the same level of education without your kids turning into purveyors of mass snobbery!
