This was the first real place we ate after arriving in Ireland this past Fall the Fish & Chips had a great crunchy batter, prepared perfectly. The Tomato Soup was very fresh tasting. The service was extremely friendly. It was unfortunate that their Wi-Fi was broken, as i hadn't yet stopped to get a local service SIM card for my iPhone. My husband and I spent 12 days traveling all through Ireland. We stayed in 5 star hotels and ate in 5 star restaurants. However, no restaurant compared to Durty Nelly's. The best dinner we had so far in Ireland. Husband had the Irish filet steak and I did the lamb shank. We had chicken pate and mussels for starters and both were outstanding. The lamb shank was incredible but the steak was ordered medium rare and came medium and was not as tender as expected. The service was great our waiter was attentive and he was very available. I enjoyed my visit to historic Durty Nelly's after my tour of the nearby castle. I had a simple sandwich and tomato soup and it was excellent. The bartender was very friendly and made beer recommendations when I was trying to decide. I walked around and love the way it was set up--each room has its own unique personality. Must stop in for a pint in the shadow of Bunratty Castle. We arrived for a late dinner in the pub section and the food was good pub grub - fish and chips and lamb shank and were all tasty. Served with a perfect pint of Guinness and topped off with decent desserts and Irish Coffee! I would eat in the pub section again, we were pleased with food and service. Let me tell you a wee story about Durty Nelly's Once upon a time there was a wee girl from Donegal who lived in Dublin and who went to visit her long time friend living in Limerick. And they decided to take a trip to Durty Nelly's for lunch and an early pint or two, because after all, it was the visitor's first time to Limerick and sure what odds that they never made it to Bunratty Castle, for the craic was good at Durty Nelly's. Sitting outside on a lovely Sunday afternoon the yarns were spinning and the drinks were flying down and didn't they spy the time and didn't one say to the other.. "What time is your bus from Limerick to Dublin". "Half four" says I. "Well", says she..."its half four now" and true enough it was and didn't we spy the half four bus zooming by the pub a wee while later. "Ah well, we'll have another one and I'll get the next bus". Well, the craic was good and the company great and the pints kept flowing, and sure enough the next bus zooms by Durty Nelly's....and the next, and long story short, twas closing time by the time the two lassies got the wherewithall to drag their arses away from the Craic and cadge a lift back to Limerick and the rest, as they say, is history. read more

Yeah, it's a bit of a tourist trap (well duh, it's next to Bunratty Castle), but the food is decent, and the beer is fresh (not stale). One thing about tourist traps, because they have such a high turnover of patrons this equates (usually) to fresh ingredients and a menu that's both equally contemporary and yet traditional. It's a win win scenario. The palm trees on the deck are an unexpected twist of tropical on the misty isle and give one the feeling they're at a theme park, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your childhood. Not my fav pub in Ireland, but it must have something going for it -it's been around since 1620! read more

This is a nice restaurant pub that's known for their seafood and that they are one of the oldest pubs in Ireland. I wasn't really incredible hungry so I just ordered the oysters and their soup which were both great! I kind of regret not being hungrier so I could have tried more! One minor mistake I made was I came in and grabbed a table expecting service. But I'm guessing you were supposed to go to the bar first and then be seated (which is what I eventually did). The food also came out a little slower than I would've expected for my simpler order, but still worth the wait. Other than that though - friendly professional service. If you're just here to experience the old pub - turn right as you go in as it's really a small room with the original wall on the far right. They have a few small tables and a very small bar there. Pretty neat to see and grab a pint in one of the oldest pubs in all Ireland (est 1620 if memory serves me right), but I'd not recommend dining in there as it is pretty cramped. They also have a gift shop on the second floor, but it's locked up and you have to ask a staff member to open it. All that being said - I highly recommend this place for those coming in / leaving Bunratty as a great place to either grab a bite to eat or a pint. If you're passing through, worth it to stop and have a pint at one of the oldest pubs in Ireland! read more

My first stop in ireland after a terrible plane experience. People say on here that its touristy but when my wife and i showed up we were the only americans in the pub. Everyone was friendly and when we told them we didn't have any solid plans they helped us plan our trip. Most told us to stay away from dublin which we did i also dropped my passport in the bar and the manager can sprinting out of the pub to catch me before i left Can't wait to go back some day read more

Paid bartender (Davey Jones - Monkees look alike) 25 Euro for a 22.50 Euro check. He kept the change. The "seafood chowder" was really horrible. Tasted like it was made with powder from a packet. Croutons were worse if that is possible. I had some GREAT chowder in Galway that was MILES better than this drivel. Hamburger was tasty but cooked well done and was extremely dry. The Guinness was good. Go to the Creamery Pub across the street next to the Woolen Mills for better food, great bartending, and atmosphere. read more

This gathering place purports to do it all for Bunratty visitors & locals alike, and does a good job doing so. As Ireland's oldest (or almost oldest depending what you read and who you talk with) pub, there is a hustling, bustling bar crowd drinking Guiness & lager. Inside there is both a bar menu and a "proper" menu for the restaurant. We ate in the bar (much cheaper) & were quite happy with the fish chowder and the traditional Irish lamb stew. The stew was very plain - lamb (mutton?), big potatoes & a few slices of carrots, but with lots of salt and pepper it was just fine. A fun and "happening" place. read more

To share, we had the mussels and traditional pork sausage. The space is really cute with plenty of outdoor seating. Try to grab a spot on the 2nd level patio that overlooks the country side. Loved this place! I know it's super touristy, but we loved it. The decor was awesome, and felt super medieval. Started the meal with the best Irish coffee I've ever had. Had the fish and chips (a very generous portion!) and this was the best fish and chips I had our entire trip. Breaded crispy and to perfection. The mushy peas were also perfect! Husband had a bacon cheeseburger and was very impressed. Plenty of parking just up the road, and location is convenient to Bunratty Castle, though we were there too late to tour. One of Ireland's best loved pubs: famous for its music. On a good night you'll find Cathal on piano and Pat on vocals. And a whole host of other musicians and locals to sing along with. You sing even part of a tune, even off-key, and Cathal will be able to pick it up and and figure out what song you're murdering. The food's definitely an also-ran. It's not bad, you'll get a great feed of hearty Irish fare (salmon or beef, with chips or vegetables of the day). People go there principally for the ambiance, music and the "craic" (craic is the Irish word for fun). It's beside Bunratty Castle and the Folk Park - one of Ireland's greatest tourist attractions. On our recent trip to Ireland, we stayed near Durty Nelly's and it sort of became our home-base pub when we would return home each day. We had a great time here, the people were friendly, there always seemed to be a different crowd or a different party going on. Our bartenders, Jennifer, Richard and Barry were great! They took good care of us and made us feel at home. They even closed off a part of the bar for us on a slow night.. maybe that was just to keep the Americans away from everyone else!! HA! The food was good, seafood and vegetable soup is really good.. surprisingly the buffalo wings were really tasty as well. Would highly recommend stopping by for a pint.. read more
