It's legit. Super friendly staff. Food is great. We had the Irish's stew and it was alright. Meat was a bit tough, but great flavor. My kids had bbq chicken wings which were awesome and they other had chicken goujons. By far the best chicken finger ( I'm from the USA) I've ever had. Seafood clam chowder was great as well. Small/limited menu - so thing felt fresh and overall was great. We had 8 folks and were able to get a seat. It wasn't overly loud and fairly clean on the inside. My favorite place we ate in our whole trip - it was quiet on a Monday afternoon after the Cliffs which is exactly what we wanted. They had a large outdoor and fairly big indoor area. They do live music at night but we were here for lunch and they had a fire going. We got the seafood stew which was fantastic, along with the beef stew, the special sandwich, and the bangers and mash. The beef stew was hands down the most perfect beef stew I had on the island- plenty of veggies with a well balanced flavor. The seafood stew was huge with large chunks of white fish, which was much enjoyed by my husband. The side brown bread was fantastic and so were the bangers and mash. Service was quick and friendly, we even picked up some merch. Come for the Guinness and the beef stew! read more

A charming pub that was recommend to us by our driver. We popped in for lunch and the kind lady working there was definitely working hard as they were visibly understaffed. Great local pub that serves food and has AMAZING traditional Irish Music free of charge! Slightly on the edge of town but so worth it. We came after dinner from the nearby Oar House (best restaurant in the area) and loved the music and the excellent view we had from the bar. Unlike some of these pubs where space is limited, you can actually see the musicians and HEAR the music. All ages were observed singing along to these wonderful old Irish Tunes -- and a guest vocalist or two popped in to do a few songs as well. Beer was on point and no wait to get it. My fiancé and I had a wonderful time at this bar, we watched a logo band called Dubhlinn perform on a super crowded night. We almost left because we kind of felt like outsiders and it seemed like everyone at the bar knew each other. But it just so happened that the band's manager came up to us before we left and asked if we liked good traditional Irish music, which we did and she can convince us to say. Boy am I happy that she did! We had the best time! The atmosphere was good, drinks were flowing, good service, nice people, and great entertainment. A great pub with great food and drink not too far from the ferry location to the Aran Islands. There aren't a lot of choices around this neck of the woods, but I HIGHLY recommend this one. The prices aren't terribly bad for being in a touristy part of the country. Service was friendly and prompt, and the food was VERY good. The lunch menu consists mainly of sandwiches, but it also includes the traditional Irish stews, fish and chips, etc. but those are a bit pricier. If you stick with the sandwiches, you can get away for under €10 per person. If you deviate from the sandwich choices, you might spend more toward €15-€18 per entree - even for lunch! My lunch partner had the seafood chowder for €8.00 and said it was heavenly. She followed it up with the roast beef sandwich for €9.90. It was served on a toasted "bap" (yes, I had to Google that - it means bun) with a few thin slices of roast beef, horseradish, mayo, and onion chutney. She seemed happy with it, but to me, it looked like it could have used a few more slices of roast beef. I chose the "Vegetarian Option" for €7.90. It was served on a floury "bap" (bun) with tomatoes, pesto, roasted red peppers, and mozzarella cheese. Pints are €4.50. We pulled into the pub with high hopes and were not disappointed! We were told the kitchen was closed but after we shared our plight they checked with the kitchen and came back saying they still had fresh soup and bread...we ordered 5 bowls and not only was it DELICIOUS but they served us with smiles even though it was super late! Went here on a whim. There aren't very many places to chose from in Doolin - I'm sure they're all great! McDermott Bar: very friendly staff, incredible live music, love the ambience - just not a fan of the prices. Doolin attracts a lot of the tourists who want to see the Cliffs of Moher. It's a miniscule town that I believe is kept alive by the tourists that stay here, so I understand the raised prices. Food was delicious. I had this incredible chocolate cake for dessert - yum! Ordered fish and chips and ooooh the fish was soooo very fresh! Nice portion sizes too. We sat at a table right in front of the band which made the experience even better. This little place was such a gem!!! Our host at the Airbnb recommended we take a cab to this spot. The best part for me was the live music - a small group of people were playing traditional live music. It definitely lived up to its expectations, I was so happy we stopped inside. The pub itself is fairly small, which just added to its charm. They had photos all over the walls, lots of different kinds of whiskies to try (our bartender recommend one or two we had never tried before). We ordered a few shots and a Guinness and sat back and enjoyed ourselves. We didn't order any food, but from what we were seeing around us, the food looked delicious. The staff was GREAT. Of all the pubs in Doolin, McDermott's was my favorite. I went there several times in a 4-day stay. Patsy and the lads are all very nice and helpful, whether it's about town information or what to eat on the menu. The smoked salmon salad is a large portion and delicious, and the crispy duck is mouthwatering. Decent tap and bottle selection, and the atmosphere inside is cozy and lively. There is music every night around 9:30pm (at least during tourist season... I don't know about the rest of the year), and it does not disappoint! Did I mention that Doolin is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, nestled not far from the Cliffs of Mohr? Lush and green and amazingly picturesque - even the cows are happy. Not a bad scene to take in while heading for a pint, eh? read more

My wife and I got married at Newtown Castle, a DIY destination wedding for two Americans with family ties to Ireland. Naturally, we looked all over Co. Clare for a reception location, and through some fortune we found McDermott's. We took a leap of faith in booking it for the reception (since neither of us had been in person), but we're so glad we did! Our group of 25 or so were set up by the owner Patsy in a side room off the main hall, and our families had decorated it with some balloons, etc. As our guests ambled in off the minibus, McDermott's staff took drink orders with great ease and friendliness. There was plenty of Guinness to be had. When time came to order food, staff swung in quickly with menus and took orders quickly. The food came out shortly thereafter, and the lamb shank (fall of the bone heaven) and chicken curry were particularly praised. Other touches by Patsy were lovely surprises. A group of three trad folk musicians joined us after dinner, including a brief Irish folk session. All of this came together to make us feel incredibly welcome and special on our big day. If you're looking for a wedding reception or other group event venue, I can think of no better place than McDermott's. Patsy is an absolute gem. read more

Really more like 3.5 stars. The most "boozy" of the Doolin pubs, you can expect large crowds and sometimes stag and hen parties at this family-owned watering hole. The front room has a lovely performance area for musicians and listeners, all within close proximity to the bar. The back room is where more of the locals and workers within the tourism industry hang out. On my most recent trip to Doolin, I managed to catch a night of "Foolin in Doolin," three trad musicians who play on Mondays at McDermotts (also known as McDiarmada's). The most charismatic of these musicians is uilleann pipes player Blackie O'Connell, whose facility and energy with that instrument is bound to take anyone's breath away! There were a number of drunk and uninhibited women who proffered general invitations to the audience to dance with them by the end of the night. And by dance, I don't mean Irish dance. I mean dancing that's universal to Grateful Dead and Phish concerts in the free-flowing liturgical sense. For a Monday night, there was no better entertainment in Doolin! Don't miss out on McDermott's while in Doolin. read more

This place gets my vote for honesty and service. I went there for dinner and whilst I was paying requested some cash out and everything was processed but the bar tender forgot to give me the cash. I called up the next day and they checked the CCTV and gave me the €100 as well. The place is a nice place for a good pint, food is also quite alright and the atmosphere is pretty nice. I had the beef and Guinness pie and that was quite good. The desserts I cannot recommend as it was too sweet for my liking and looked store bought. But the rest is fine. McDermott's pub in Doolin was the closest one to our B&B and one where we spent the majority of our first evening in Doolin. Most of the tables were taken up in the main room when we walked in but we found some seats at the bar. There were a few bartenders working and they were all busting their ass and providing some awesome service to everyone. We had plenty of drinks and awaited the traditional Irish music which started up at 2130 or so. While I still maintain that it isn't really my thing, it was fun enough and my parents really enjoyed it. On the weekends it will be packed to the gills so get there early if you like sitting. If you are staying on this end of Doolin then this is the pub I suggest. read more

The bacon and cabbage special was good, solid pub food, but nothing out of the ordinary or special. The service was slow, though it wasn't busy (late lunch). I asked the bar tender whether I should order at the bar (to make it easier, was happy to do so), and he said that he could take my order at the table. Sat down, waited, no dice, so ordered at the bar anyway. For the same reason, ended up going up to the bar to pay as well. Not a big deal, but if it's easier for a patron to order at the bar, don't set the expectation of table service. read more

We were not expecting much from a small place on the coastal road after the amazing cliffs of Moher, yet we were happily surprised first by the cuteness of the place, then by the friendly staff, lastly the quality and flavors of the food. The lamb burgers was simply amazing. BLT and chicken club sandwich, and the hot vegetable soup were very satisfying and tasty as well! All the sandwiches came with a generous portion of either wedges or fries, greens salad, and coleslaw. Very tasty!
