Pulls a Houdini when needed the most Whilst Dr Wirig enjoys stellar reviews, they don't hold up in that 1% of cases where it goes wrong (like my situation). A high level chronological experience: May 12: root canal. I paid the extra $$ for a 3D scan to ensure that the tooth was indeed not broken. May 13: something feels awfully wrong: the same pain is back, and worse (or: it is not a recovery pain). I email Dr Wirig and he responds immediately that "This is all very normal". This was his first opportunity to ask more questions or even have me quickly come back in. So I toughen it out. May 22: I develop a massive infection right before Memorial Day weekend. I email Dr Wirig; no response (yet: basic email trackers show that the email was opened). Thankfully my general dentist (Marina Park Dental) jumps in and prescribes antibiotic while I wait (4 days) for offices to reopen. May 26: still no response, so my general dentist reaches out and twists his arm for me: a new appointment that day with Dr Wirig. This time, it seems that the tooth was broken after all (which also means that the root canal and crown was a complete waste of time and money). There is no advice from Dr Wirig on where to go from here, so once again, my general dentist is coming to the rescue. I get a same day tooth extraction scheduled. In that procedure, I am told that the infection had spread significantly and more tissue than usual had to be cleaned / removed. May 26-28: I feel better. Hurray! May 29: the pain creeps back in .. and I email Dr. Wirig. Knowing that I track emails, this time he responds and calls me. Whilst one might consider that progress, his overly confident approach once again gets the better of him. He asks no real questions and after 20 seconds in the call, he states: "You are within 3-5 days from a tooth extraction, this is normal. Wait till next week and give me a call then". I know this wrong; having lost complete confidence in him, I reach out to another endodontist immediately after our call. May 29 continued: I am seen immediately by Dr Wong Ralan who spends 20min asking questions and listening. He thinks the surgery may have caused a leakage to my sinuses, triggering new pain. This is indeed immediately confirmed with another 3D scan and addressed with a bunch more of antibiotics. Meanwhile, Dr Wirig must have had an inkling that maybe, just maybe he could have done better and he calls me back - essentially "a day late, a gesture short". I politely explain to him that I have lost my confidence. I ask for a copy of his 3D imagery and he promises to share it with me. FWIW, he never did and when I even stopped by the office a week later (Jun 3), his staff was clueless. I am honestly starting to wonder if he is intentionally holding it back to avoid any malpractice claims from me. Today is Jun 27. I still have a whole in my mouth. So much tissue was removed from the infection that there was not enough left for things to heal as it should. Dr Wirig might be out of my life but I am still dealing with the consequences from it. When everything goes well, I suspect Dr Wirig is good enough. But when it doesn't go well, he not only fails to step up but also can't remedy (or even acknowledge the issue). This is the exact feedback articulated in the other 1-2 star reviews. In my case, this is has led to an infection that never should have been there in the first place, a bone grafting in jeopardy, a lot of time and money lost, and just sheer agony for weeks. None, absolutely none of it, would have been the case if I had worked with the right endodontist from the start. If you think you can fall in that 1%, I recommend you go elsewhere. read more

Had a most excellent experience with Dr Wirig who I was referred to by my dentist Dr Maryam Tabar (Digital Dental). I had a cracked tooth that Dr Wirig was able to quickly confirm with the scan. I cannot recommend Dr. Wirig enough. I was so nervous about my first (hopefully last) root canal but he walked me through everything, assured me it would be pain free, and that there would be very little to no downtime at all. I came in with a horrible toothache. Needed a root canal. The front desk got me in ASAP. I am very afraid of the dentist. Dr Wirig talked to me and actually ASKED me what was I afraid of and address all of my concerns (explaining what he was going to do and how he would do it). I am afraid of needles and he made sure I was numb before injections. I was so afraid that I was going to eventually feel SOMETHING and scream, my body was tense the entire time. After a good 25-30 minutes, he was done and I was so surprised it went by so fast. I was able to relax. I hope I never have to see him again, but if I do, I know it's definitely not as bad as I think going to the dentist is. read more

Dr. Wirig has the worst bedside manner I've experienced. He was abrupt, inpatient, aggressive. He acted 'put out' when I grimaced in pain. He injected the topical anesthetic so aggressively I screamed out in pain and seemed annoyed by my reaction. He was so rough that the tissue around the tooth was torn up and I experienced intense throbbing pain for a week. His staff was rude. He rushed through the procedure like he was being timed. He didn't wait for CT results prior to starting the root canal. He rushed in and rushed out. Zero finesse, zero patience, zero manners. I just hope I don't get any complications from it. This was an emergent root canal. I would never recommend him to anyone, even my worst enemies. read more

I went in with sensitivity in my lower right jaw. My own dentist took a X-Ray and didn't see any cracks, but I've had a crack before and I know the symptoms. This is my 3rd time going to Dr. Wirig and it's always been an awesome experience btw. He was able to find the crack on the upper right jaw without taking an X-ray . The surgery went great with no pain. I couldn't even tell if he used a needle to numb me or not. Just when I thought a dentist couldn't get any better I went her due to a referral from my previous dentist and everything about my experience was top tier. 1 star because they take longer to bill your insurance so if you have any follow up procedures with your dentist after make sure that these folks submit claims within a timely manner or you can get screwed over with dental insurance that have annual maximums. Dr. Wirigs work is good, but his admins/billing team are what caused the issue. Found out from insurance that they submitted their claim after my dental claim which were 2 weeks apart. If it was billed right after the service was completed, I could have asked my dentist to push out the services I got two weeks later to 2025 or have an accurate out of pocket quote. Getting a $500+ bill in the mail out of nowhere is not something to look forward to right before the holidays. read more

I went to see Dr. Wirig today for my first ever root canal. To say I was anxious is an understatement - I mean, the procedure does not have a great reputation! Dr. Wirig was kind, answered all of my questions and made me feel like he had all the time in the world for me and would make sure I would experience no pain during the procedure. And I didn't! His office is extremely well-run, with appointments beginning and ending when they're supposed to and they play great music in the waiting and procedure rooms (at least in this Gen-Xer's opinion). Summary: Dr Wiring the endo KING!! I went in at 9am with pain and quickly diagnosed and got me in at 1pm. He said he would work through lunch to get me out of pain - #1 rule for dental office customer service. Get your patient out of pain quickly. I came in at 1pm. He gave me anesthesia at 1:15pm. Started my endo at 1:30pm and finished at 2:05pm. Really!!! Who does that. 35 minutes. As you can tell this is not my first endo and I've had terrible terrible 2-3 hour experiences in the past. Root canals are a breeze...said no one ever. Well despite their terrible reputation, Dr. Wirig and his team can confidently make that statement.
