My wife and I just went to Dykes (12pm 8/8) and the salesman at the desk in the showroom never greeted us, asked if we needed assistance - never even stood up. Just watched us as we walked around. We're in the market for a new front & side door, with storms for both, as well as a nee mailbox which I saw they sell. He was not interested in our business, only looking to start his weekend. I've walked in a few times in the past and have been completely ignored. I called today to see if they have any bathroom vanities in stock. The guy told me I could only look at what they have in stock, since they haven't had someone working in that department in over a year and wouldn't be able to order something. Since I need a specific size, I asked if they had anything 24 inches wide. He said he couldn't tell me that - the only way he could answer that is if he went back into a different department (which he made a bid deal out of - I've seen the place and it's not that big) and measure each of the vanities. I asked if they had anything listed as inventory in a computer system that he could look up. He said no. I told him I would go somewhere else read more

The service here is terrible. I've never been treated so poorly, so consistently by a company I'm giving my money to. It's unbelievable, truly. The way everyone acts at this place is like they're doing you a favor by letting you shop there. Even just calling for a quote or availability of material is an unpleasant experience. Steer clear. This place is the worst. Don't go it's not worth it! Their selection is okay and the prices are competitive but the people that work there are awful! They are the rudest most unhelpful demeaning people I've ever encountered. I've had to go to this place for years because they'll have the molding or piece I need but every time the people working there have treated me horribly! They act like they are doing you a favor taking your money! And it's not like it's me or just one guy there! All the staff I've ever interacted with or I've ever observed waiting on other customers have been obnoxious! My feeling is if you can find someone else selling what you need even if it's for more I'd rather be treated like a valued customer and give them my money then be treated poorly by this place! Have used Dykes lumber for many years. I had the opportunity to meet Frank in the Door section of the Elmsford store. I had to have a custom double door & huge glass transom built. After shopping around Frank provided the best pricing. We took delivery of the door and transom and the GC successfully installed it. Came with the proper trim and lock set. It's outstanding... great job Frank!!! read more

I've now done three orders of moldings here and each one was delayed, missing something, and/or damaged. I have to hound them to get the material I paid for. Each time my project was delayed because of the missing material. What makes it worse is the staff are incompetent and stuck up so just the effort of getting the molding I paid up front for is an annoying experience. read more

I have been to Dyke's a few times over the last 10 years. They have never disappointed me; the customer service is always the same...awful. Nearly every employee wanders aimlessly although they look focused on a very important mission. There are tones and faces that suggest lack of interest or annoyance. Nobody was ever rude; they just seem disconnected and uninterested in helping customers. My contractor wants me to go there to look for moldings, assuming they have a nicer selection than a Big Box store. I didn't tell him that I don't like Dyke's so I've had anxiety just thinking about it. I will go anywhere except Dyke's. I believe Dyke's would have more customers, which translates into higher profits, if they polished up the customer service. They're absolutely the worst. PS - If my contractor insists that I go to Dyke's then I will find another contractor because they're that bad. read more

This place should be renamed dicks. All the guys that work there are just that. Worse service. 8 guys standing around with dicks in their hands. Don't offer to help load. Expect you to know everything g and hands off attitudes. Have to go there unfortunately because they have more selection than Home Depot as far as moulding. Be prepared for awful service. read more

The people at Dykes are very pleasant. It's great to have a nearby alternative to Home Depot. I only wish I could buy more at Dykes. Unfortunately, the people there don't seem to want to sell you things. Last year I was on the market for a new front door. I went to Dykes on a Saturday morning and met with a sales person for almost an hour. He was very patient and helpful. At the end of our meeting, he said he would call me on Monday with a quote for the door. Monday came and went without a call, so I followed up with him later in the week. He apologized profusely for dropping the ball, said he'd call immediately for a quote and get right back to me. I never heard from him again. Thinking that this door salesman was an anomaly but still wanting to like Dyke's, I recently met with one of their kitchen people about some new cabinets. She spent a good deal of time with me working out some potential configurations. She seemed knowledgeable and easy to work with, and I thought for sure I'd be ordering from her. After I left, I called her and left a message, saying I wanted to make a change to the discussed configuration, and would she call me back. I didn't hear from her. I followed up with an email, which went unanswered. I detect a pattern here. I'm confused as to Dykes' business model. Do they actually sell people products, or are they just so friendly that they want to spend time with you and don't want you to part with your money? I go there because I need to buy something, and it's frustrating and unprofessional to have to keep chasing them down. So ultimately, I have taken my business to other places where they bother to return my calls and take my orders. read more

Called the store to find out if they had a lumber support in stock, conversation was "do you have an Acme #123ABC in stock", answer; "we should have plenty of them", question, ""how much are they ? "they're $xx.xx each" OK, I'll be right up. I get in my car, drive the 5 miles over there, walk in and ask for 5 Acme #123ABC's and their answer is, "Oh, we don't have any of those, can't even put that number in the computer". First and last time I'll ever set foot in there. Can't believe the hubris of a business to operate like that. I went to Home Depot and bought a slightly less fancy version of the thing I needed. read more

The absolute worst service ever. I purchased custom 96" closet doors from this mistake of an establishment and was told it would take 2-3 weeks but usually delivers at 2. After two weeks passed I decided to call to check the status and turns out another 2 weeks was added to the delivery time. After waiting an entire month the doors arrived at 80", over a foot shorter than what was marked on the ONE PAGE shop drawing. I work under a general contractor and I have never seen anything more rediculous. To make matters worse, I understand that Dykes Lumber is actually not self performing the work, but when I asked to speed up the replacement door delivery time (which was another "2-3" weeks), I was told to call the manufacturer myself as if I didn't pay useless Dykes Lumber over 1k to handle that. My advice, don't waste your time and find a manufacturer on your own in 1 day like I did. I regret my decision to order from here. read more

Stan was patient with me & explained everything as I am a homeowner, not a contractor. Would only come here, the big box places are like being in a dysfunctional universe. We bought kitchen cabinets and worked with Suzanne, the kitchen designer here, when we redid our kitchen a few years ago. She improved our architect's design, and worked within our budget to get us exactly what we needed for our new kitchen. When there was a problem with a few cabinet doors, Suzanne went back to the supplier and had replacements sent. We're now going back to Suzanne for our next kitchen in a Manhattan apartment. read more

How do these guys stay open. You have to get smart and shop somewhere else. Waited on line today, while 5 employees walked around trying to look busy. There were 6 on line. I was next and the salesguy couldn't do a special order. I went back on line waiting for a more intelligent agent. No such luck. I needed 2 door knobs, if I could get them on Amazon - do you think I'd be here - on line ! We kept asking me - you want 2 three inch ? I kept saying, no ! I need two 4 inch. I doubt this order is going to be correct. Well how would you like to pay $15.00 shipping for for two knobs. They can be sent $4.95 insured. This is a pure rip off. If they want to compete against the big box store down the block, they have a lot of work. Next order I'm up to Danes in Peekskill- they are just great. I'd love to speak with a local sales rep for Daniel - they were so much better years again. Shame on you ! read more
