This was going to be a two-star review, because in fairness I don't doubt that Dr. Pradel does good work. When I rolled over the two-star rating, though, it was described as, "Meh. I've experienced better," whereas a one-star rating was described as, "Eek! Methinks not." My experience was way more "YIKES" than "ehh." 1. A very small thing, but an indicator of things to come: Parking in the garage is exorbitant (maximum: $17.20), they don't validate, and they don't seem to think that's worth mentioning. I called right before my appointment to confirm their new location on Wilshire, and I was informed that the parking entrance is on LaPeer and also the metered street parking should be pretty available given the time of day. Cool! That would've been a great time to mention the parking costs, but they seem to assume that if you're visiting an oral surgeon in Beverly Hills, paying more than $10 for parking won't phase you. (Silly me, being referred by a dentist in Silver Lake.) 2. The x-rays I brought along don't show them what they need to see, so they'll need to do a panoramic x-ray for $120. I wasn't expecting this, and I say I should come back later after I get a second opinion. "Let me talk to the doctor," he says. He comes back and, in a hushed tone, says that the doctor will waive the fee for me. I suddenly feel like I'm buying a used car. The consultation itself is thorough and thoughtful. They go over the procedure, the risks, the anesthetic options, what my insurance will and won't cover. About this part, I have no complaints. However: 3. When I go to leave, I expect to pay what I owe for today. Instead, I'm asked to pay for my full share of the surgery (scheduled for a month from now) in advance, to "reserve the appointment." After this third surprise, I say, "I'm not prepared to do that today. I've never had surgery before, but I've also never paid for medical care in advance before. You know, I really didn't realize everything that was involved in this process -- I think I should do this at a later time." The reaction to this is NOT, "Absolutely, ask around, your tooth isn't impacted so there's no medical need to rush into this, we want you to be comfortable." Instead, it's the same page out of the customer retention handbook, the same technique you'll hear at a car dealership or on the phone with AT&T: "Let me talk to the doctor," followed by, "Okay, don't worry, we can hold your appointment for you anyway." Pushing boundaries, then doing you a favor to make it better. It can be easy to doubt your instincts in the face of medical authority. After all, it was just one experience, maybe I was in a bad mood, maybe the problem is that I'm not familiar with the procedures surrounding surgery... Maybe. But as of this writing, there are "17 other reviews that are not currently recommended" at the bottom of this page. Fourteen of those are 5-star reviews by users with 0 Yelp friends. Between my gut instincts screaming "They're working you over" and this unusually high number of questionable reviews, let's just say there's a fair chance that dodgy practices are at work here, and you should probably go elsewhere unless you have deep pockets and a tolerance for manipulation. At the very least, Dr. Pradel, when you schedule a consultation: Give your new patients a heads-up about the parking situation and your new-to-surgery patients a heads-up that paying for surgery in advance is (apparently) standard. If we're not a good fit for your practice, let us self-select out and save us all a lot of time. read more

Dr. Pradel is fabulous. I needed a tooth extracted. However I didn't have an exact date as I needed to schedule follow up work with a different dentist. She allowed me to take my time to schedule the procedure when my team was ready. The procedure went flawless as did the follow up. By the way, did I mention I found Dr. Pradel via yelp? I'm very happy. Oh yea, a few years ago a woman gave Dr. Pradel a bad review. The Dr. or her office neglected to inform this patient that parking was expensive. ($12.00 approx). DR Carmel Paradel is the best! since my first appointment to review my wisdom she gave me the confidence and trust feeling u dont get at most dentist, she was so kind she made me feel welcomed and calmed she made me want to remove my wisdoms (wich is why initially went in for) she explain all the process and what medication i would need, day of operation i was so nervous but felt some kind of safety she was my dentist (i woulnt want anyone else) the process was so fast and she removed all 4! the whole time i felt NO PAIN just a prick after the process and the swelling basically the next day i actually had no pain! and no i was not on medication SHE IS SIMPLY THE BEST!! she really cares for her patients and it shows if i ever need anything i am never hesitating to come back! shes the best and will highly reccomend read more

Based on the great review from Brad I decided to call Dr. Carmel's office. The receptionist was polite and helpful. I told her that I am in a lot of pain and need care as soon as possible. She put me on hold for a minute of so, then offered me a consultation later that afternoon. I couldn't have been happier until I asked how much for a consultation and x-ray. My hopes of quick relief were deflated when I was told it would be $120 for the consultation and $120 for the x-ray. She asked if I wanted an exam as well. I asked how much the visit would be with an exam. I was told everything would come to $370! I called this doctor because Brad said she was reasonable. He must have meant reasonable for Hollywood because I have two consultation quotes from other surgeons that are half of Dr. Carmel's quote. One in Burbank came in at $125 for consultation, exam, and x-ray (and he has better yelp reviews) and the other quoted me $175 for all three. The receptionist was really nice and if she is any indicator of the quality of service then I am sure this office is great. Her rates may not be that bad compared to other offices in Hollywood, but if you are like me and can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for quality care than I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Exactly two months have gone by without a promised follow-up call from Dr. Pradel's office to let me know my claim was processed. It wasn't showing up under Cigna medical, but lo and behold it was processed (and completely covered) under Cigna dental. The Cigna rep went over the charges with me, and explained a mysterious $1,250 pending charge. Apparently this was for a recommended standard bite guard which normally only run $400-500. The shocked rep said this was the highest amount she'd ever seen for both the visit and the guard (and you'd think insurance reps see some crazy stuff!). Dr. Carmel even wanted to charge for the impressions (Cigna doesn't cover this), which are apparently normally covered under the total cost of the final product. This Dr is the best . She pulled all 4 of my wisdom teeth out 8 years ago with out any trouble. He staff was very attentive and helpfull. I just returned last week for more work done. She spent 4 hours with me an donly charged a consultaion fee of $240. She sent me up stairs to Dr Falcone who did what I needed done as she said all I needed wa s a chipped filling fixed. She spent 4 hours out of her busy day just to tell me that when most people just want you in and out. I left her a massge at 8 pm the nite before and she called me back instatnly. If you need an oral surgeon I cannot think of a better group of people to take care of you. Dr. Pradel and her small staff were godsends and the pleasure was all mine. I went to have two wisdom teeth pulled and from the moment I sat down for my consultation to the moment I woke up after my surgery I was completely taken care of. The office is amazing, modern, and comfortable. They rates were surprisingly fair considering what appears to be pretty high overhead regarding the quality of the office and the location. And she takes Anthem Blue Cross which is how I found her. It was such a positive experience all around that I was actually sad leaving the office knowing I might not need an oral surgeon for a many years to come. Dr. Pradel did an amazing job in my wisdom teeth extraction. From my visit, I could definitely tell that she had a lot of experience and that I was in good hands. When I first arrived, they took me in for an panoramic X-ray, which I thought was really cool.She explained the procedure to me beforehand and actually helped me become less anxious (especially because I am extremely scared of needles or anything poking me). She even gave me a blanket so I wouldn't get cold during the procedure. I was referred to Dr. Pradel by my regular dentist for an extraction. The entire experience was one of utmost professionalism.. The moment I entered I was greeted professionally and WARMLY by the competent staff. I felt at ease when the doctor arrived for the consultation. After discussing the many options and explaining the procedure we proceeded to extract the tooth. The procedure did not require general anesthesia so I was able to return home, take it easy and start the healing process. This was the worst service I have ever had. First the MD was over an hour late, when I asked if they validated parking they said no and it would be $22 an hour. So, I am paying for extra parking because the doctor is late. They called a day before to ask if they could reschedule for a later time, and I said I have to work so I can do another day but was unable to later. Instead of scheduling it later the MD just did what ever she wanted and made me pay. I left the office after an hour of waiting so I am unable to evaluate her medical skills. Dr. Pradel is very professional, very easy to talk to, and very attentive. I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed (I'm 20) and simply chose the first doctor under my insurance plan. Lucky for me, Dr. Pradel is fantastic! While my wisdoms were relatively uncomplicated teeth, Dr. Pradel let me know I had only a 2% chance of complications, and she explained exactly what could happen. The consultation was very comprehensive, and on the day of the surgery she walked me through everything she did. She does her own anesthesiology, and I woke up right as the surgery ended. I had the easiest recovery, better than any other recovery I've heard of from my friends - swelling for less than a day, no pain, no drowsiness, no dry socket or infection. She took out my stitches a week later and answered questions I had, and she set up a follow-up appointment for 4 weeks later to check that I don't get any lingering infections. She's a very knowledgeable surgeon, and she uses certain special techniques to lessen risk of dry socket and to minimize swelling. I'd highly recommend Dr. Pradel, though be aware that the parking for Sunset Medical Tower is pricey! I paid $10 to park there for an hour, $20 for 3 hours. The pharmacy downstairs is a little on the pricey side as well. read more

Surgery and healing went well but unfortunately everything else did not. I got my wisdom teeth taken out in February and the amount of surprise bills I received is out of control. I'm writing this review in August, 6 months later post surgery because I just received ANOTHER bill which was a week over due when I got it in the mail. I've never experienced anything in my life that bills still come in 6 months later WITH insurance. If you have money to blow I'd definitely recommend. I just came back from surgery, and had to leave a review on here! From start to finish, I was well-taken care of (BEYOND BELIEF!). Dr. Pradel is literally an ANGEL. I've never met a doctor who was so kind and gracious. I was almost in tears due to her kindness (Im not even exaggerating). I did not want general anesthesia, and she was the ONLY doctor that gave me alternative options (IV sedation). Other surgeons absolutely refused to extract my impacted wisdom teeth without getting knocked out! I felt like it was more for THEIR security, not mine. I was 100% alert during surgery, and did not feel drowsy at all. Most importantly, I did not feel intense pain during the procedure. Dr. Pradel was the only doctor that took notice of my bone loss/open gap that needed filling. The previous surgeon that I initially had a consultation with failed to bring that up! Dr. Pradel is NO match to other surgeons that I know of; she definitely holds the crown.She is precise, observant, and detailed. After speaking to Dr. Pradel, I've realized how incompetent my previous doctor was. I've gotten my x-ray and consultation done with another doctor, and she miserably failed to take notice of my flaws that needed further treatment! However, Dr. Pradel caught them RIGHT AWAY. Also, the assistants here (Maria and Estrian) were equally angelic and accommodating. They were all SO sweet to me, and treated me like family. I will never, ever forget their kindness towards me! And they kept everything so clean and hygienic (added plus for a germaphobe like me). Top notch, I tell ya! I rarely leave reviews, but I just had to share my incredible experience! I didn't know what to expect when I went to get my wisdom teeth removed. I thought it would be much worse than what it actually turned out to be. Procedure was quick and easy. Didn't feel a thing. I would recommend Dr. Pradel if you are planning to get your wisdom teeth removed. Her office is located in a bit of a busy part of California, so parking can be hard at times. I think $20 to park in the parking garage below is a bit much, but perhaps it is just me. Besides this, though, the people and environment are really relaxed. Receptionist is really nice as well. This was my first experience with an oral surgeon, and as always with any dentist visit I was scared. The minute I walked in her clinic I was already impressed. Dr. Pradel's staff are very friendly and they made you feel relaxed. Dr. Pradel is very prompt, she does not let you sit in the waiting area for a long time unlike other clinics. Dr Pradel removed two of my wisdom teeth. I spoke with her at length prior to the surgery. She was amazing before and during. After my surgery she personally called to make sure I was OK. She went to great lengths to share with me the parking situation since soe people feel like it's her responsibility to make them aware of that. This review is long overdue. Dr. Pradel is the best Oral surgeon hands down. Had to remove 4 wisdom teeth, 2 of my bottom ones were severely impacted. One actually had a cyst around it. Dr. Pradel and her staff were welcoming, accommodating and efficient. I had issues the day of my surgery. Body became cold and started to shiver like I was having a seizure. Instead of going forward with surgery, we rescheduled but this time, her and her staff were well prepared. Blankets on me, sweater and sweat pants on with headphones over a beanie. Sounds toasty but it was actually comfortable. Couple years later and still with no issues or residuals from having surgery. There's no one else I'd trust more than Dr. Pradel. If I had more wisdom teeth to give, she'd be the person I'd go to. read more

I have visited plenty of oral surgeons and dentists but none are as amazing as Dr. Pradel and the rest of her staff. We were referred to her office to have our wisdom teeth removed. Both my sister and I got all four wisdom teeth removed in the same day, an hour apart and the procedure went great! The staff was very friendly and helpful and Dr. Pradel was as professional as anyone can get. She referred me to a specialist for my jaw clicking problem. Yesterday, I was told that I needed an emergency tooth extraction. I was referred to Dr. Pradel. I could barely sleep last night because I was so scared about the procedure. The minute that I stepped into Dr. Pradel's office this morning, the Dr. introduced herself to me and I immediately knew that I was in good hands. Dr. Pradel is very professional and friendly. Everything was clearly explained to me as well as what my basic insurance would cover and not cover. I opted for conscious sedation (IV pain meds, and versed). Let me say that this was worth every penny of the additional cost. I did not feel anything. It is now 7 hours after the procedure and I have not even taken one of my prescribed pain pills yet. I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Pradel and her helpful assistants Lucy and Irma. Just as I was about to start writing this review, I got a phone call from the Dr. to see how I am doing and if I have any concerns. If you need oral surgery, you could not find a better dentist than Dr. Pradel. read more
