That's how I ended up in here on Monday with a small fruit salad and a bottle of water that cost me over £4 (how?!). The staff were pleasant and it must have been approaching closing time as they were militantly cleaning up around the people still in here. They have wifi, they have seats and it's clean. They have toilets, these were also clean. I generally like the food at Eat although I only choose to eat here if there's nothing else around or I'm in a hurry. I always choose Eat at Glasgow Airport as it's the best of a bad selection but in Glasgow City Centre there's other places I'd rather walk to for lunch. This branch is close-by to quite a few other chains and they tend to be filled with tourists and people grabbing lunch. At least it was quieter around 5pm. I won't be rushing back though.

The staff are cheerful and friendly and there are enough of them behind the counter to mean that there was scarcely any queue. The prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed - I loved the radio station selection, if indeed it was radio! For a wee sandwich bar, they are definitely ticking all the boxes, and they also do pastas and other hot foods. If you're ever near the Victoria Infirmary or the Battlefield area in general, this is probably the best place to stop by and refuel.

When our food came out, I was a bit put off the way they piled the veggie haggis on top of my sweet french toast, but I ate it first and got on with it. I made my boyfriend try the veggie haggis, and much to my surprise, although he said he'd never actually order it, he didn't hate it. I quite enjoyed it and the massive amount they gave me actually filled me up before I even started on my french toast. The french toast was a massive portion. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but the slices of toast were really thick and perfectly cooked. The wee pot of syrup that came along could have been a bit bigger, but that's just me being a greedy American wanting my french toast covered in syrup. I would have also loved some powdered sugar (icing sugar as they call it here) and it would have been the best. Needless to say, it was still really great and super filling. I ended up giving a piece to my boyfriend unable to finish the three pieces. The boyfriend quite liked his eggs, beans and toast, but didn't enjoy his coffee one bit. I even tried it- it was very acidic and bitter. I wouldn't have been able to drink it, but my boyfriend drank it like a champ. All in all, our breakfast was delicious and the service was great. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed they have a bunch of Scottish goods for sale, which was great to see. I loved the presentation of the eggs - generous with a lovely rocket salad on the side and an added side which I think was a potato scone (I ate it too quickly to remember properly). The only reason I have to dock a star is that the muffins were burnt in parts which I know sometimes happen but my god I hate a burnt muffin. The rest of the dish was just lovely though and I really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable for the area, and as I said, the staff are really friendly. They don't seem to have a huge deli section (as mentioned in some other reviews) but that wouldn't put me off going back for lunch or breakfast. Also, it looks like they don't have a customer toilet but if you ask the staff, they'll point you behind the counter and past the kitchen down the stairs.

They also have a bunch of hot drink options like matcha latte and FIVE different types of hot chocolate! You can get cardamom, ginger and orange, chilli and cinnamon, white chocolate, or cadbury's. All except the cadburys (obvs) are made with real ground up chocolate and the flavors are natural ingredients infused into the chocolate (no artificial syrups, yay!). Plus they don't charge you extra for decaf OR soy! It seems to get pretty packed on the weekends and there are only five tables so it can be hard to find a seat on peak sat/sun lunchtimes, but during the week it's a lot quieter and opens up early enough for me to get a coffee on the way to uni. Food wise they do ALL DAY BREAKFAST :D :D :D (french toast with bacon? yes please), lots of things like poached eggs with black pudding, eggs benedict (called eggs cumberbatch on the menu lolz) breakfast bowls with smoked salmon, bagels, etc. They have gluten free bread AND cakes most of the time for all you non-gluten eaters (no extra charge). The menu offers great variety for breakfast and lunch & there's a wide selection of different hot drinks available too. They have loads of varieties of hot chocolates and I'll definitely be making a return visit for the white chocolate kind once winter sets in! I opted for the blueberry and chia pancakes whilst my friend got the French toast. The pancakes were huuuuuge and came with a lovely, if a bit small serving of yoghurt. They were fresh and oozed juicy blueberries when cut in to. The chia wasn't obvious through them though. My only criticism was that there was only one person serving and cooking. Although the wait for our food assured us it was fresh, tables were left uncleared and we had to wait a long time to order more drinks.
