Why doesn't our little liquor closet have any reviews? It's not even claimed on Yelp yet, poor thing. I got you, Midway. All right, so I've seen a lot of stuff online about how the place down the street has great service and recommendations, but I have no idea what these people are talking about. No one even makes eye contact with me there, probably because I don't get made up for the party until after I've picked up the wine. I don't know. Midway is an itty bitty place across from the grocery store. Its displays are stark and the carpet is worn. And it's my very favorite liquor store. It's clean and not at all fussy. The prices are good. The staff is helpful even if you come in wearing your busted after-work hoodie. Several of their cashiers are even friendly! Let me tell you, as someone who was raised 2000 miles from here, friendly cashiers are a breath of fresh air. (I love you, New England. I have come to find your grumpy ways endearing. But sometimes my puppy dog heart needs an older lady to lob a casual term of endearment my way while making pleasant small talk.) Midway is also the only place in town I've consistently been offered help when browsing. As small as it is, they maximize the heck out of that floor space to offer a great selection. Their recommendations are good, too! Midway staff never lets me down when I'm uncertain about what I want or need. Can't remember what that one red wine you liked was called? Describe it and their guy will offer you something that fits the bill in the same price range. (I'm so sorry I can't name names. I'm face blind and terrible with names, which makes me just the worst kind of regular.) Recently my friend and I were trying to recreate a certain cocktail, so my husband went out and asked some admittedly vague questions to find a wine that would work. I was flabbergasted when he came home with two bottles of a brand you'd find in a book club starter pack, one I've had a few times and never again. But of course, they were right. The cocktails were delicious, and this version of the book club wine was actually drinkable on its own when we had leftovers. Midway is a community asset, as far as I'm concerned. It seems to be the kind of small town staple that doesn't need any help from online reviews, but the empty page is sad and Midway deserves some love. read more

I have frequented a much larger & more modern competitor of this mainstay , but when they don't have hard to get, or slow moving special requests, it's as easy as a phone call to order it. The staff may be overworked sometimes, but FRIENDLY all of the time. And if that's not enough to lure you in (especially if you are at McQuade's, which is right NEXT door...), how about great case lot prices!? (we BOTH know we are going to drink them all!) Put a smile on your face, and leave a few $$ in your pocket! read more

I recently visited this establishment for the first time. I was accompanied by my service dog who is a trained seizure alert dog. One older woman who was employed there was so very violently hostile about my entering with a dog that I wanted to immediately wanted to leave, but I was with a friend who felt that they just needed to mind their business. An employee very loudly confronted me by asking if my dog was a service dog and I responded with a quiet "yes" and his response was "just had to ask". I've never been scared to be anywhere with my well behaved dog, a miniature poodle. I understand she does not look like your normal service dog, but staff at places should not make any customer afraid, and this establishment has a long way to go before I ever step foot in there again. Less than zero stars. Service dogs are not only labs and shepherds. read more

We used to trek out to their store on Route 1, but having them nearby is even better! They offer amazing customer service that is both friendly and informative. They have a wide selection of spirits and wines to choose from that is displayed quite nicely in their newly renovated location. Although street parking can be difficult in the Borough, public parking is just a short walk away at the fish pier. During the summer months, they offer wine and spirits tasting regularly, with recommendations based on what you're in the mood to drink. What more could you want from a package store?

The GPS led us to a parking lot, with a good number of spots and Nana's was 20 steps away. They do have a patio with a few tables but because it was raining, we went straight inside. When we arrived, there were only a couple parties seated, but by the time we were mid-way through our meal / leaving, the place was packed. Our server helped us with understanding some of the items on the menu and also warned us about some of the iteme they didn't have, like pepperoni, mushrooms, and donuts. With that in mind, we ordered risotto balls to start and the pesto egg and cheese sandwich (baked fresh eggs, pesto, cheddar cheese, lemon aioli, brioche roll) and Dijon and lemon chicken salad sandwich (slow roasted chicken thighs, lemon aioli, herbs, local greens, pickles, and side of fries) for the main meals. The Yaupon iced tea caught our attention since it has indigenous tea with rotating fruit fusion so we ordered one just to try it. The risotto balls came out a little sooner than the other items. We loved the crispy outside, but not a huge fan of the inside since it was mostly risotto with not enough cheese or something to glue it all together. The sauce tasted like a fancy marinara - it was tart, lightly sweet, but a tad acidic and herby too. In our minds, we imagined our main plates looking differently, but I think it was mostly because we didn't do a good job of reading the menu. The pesto sandwich was good. The eggs reminded us a lot of a quiche-spongey and light. It did not have a strong pesto flavor. The roll seemed homemade; it was good and airy. The Dijon lemon chicken salad sandwich was okay. The chicken thighs chunks were tender, and I could definitely taste the pickles, lemon, and Dijon. I think it needed more salt or even something sweet to balance out the acidic flavors. The bread was well toasted. The fries were delicious with the right amount of salt, crispiness, and variety. The iced tea was not our favorite as it tasted overly sweet which might've removed any fruit flavor. The staff was very attentive, they have lots of tables and high chairs to choose from, and lots of natural sun coming through the large windows.
