They've got a great selection for just about any hardware need, saving you the 30+ minute drive to a big box store. The staff is always helpful and welcoming, making every visit a good experience. The real standout, though, is their appliance section. We're building a new home and wanted to buy local -- not just to support a local business, but to have reliable service and support close by. Adam has been fantastic to work with. He's extremely knowledgeable, patient, and made sure we understood all our options. He even went the extra mile to make sure we were getting the best deals and maximizing any available rebates or sale prices. In the end, we're paying less than we would have at a big box retailer -- and getting much better service. Always check out your local stores before heading to the chain outlets. It does lean a little on the pricey side, and is probably not a great place for extensive home improvement projects but it is always the place we go to first for any of our repair needs. It's one of the many convenient and friendly businesses that make Story City a full-service community.

I ordered carpet from Menards in Fort Dodge. When it came, it was two pieces sewn together. Our…read moreinstaller said that the seam would likely break when stretched for installation. I took it back to the store, and Menards replaced it. However, they refused to reimburse for the additional expense of having the installer making an extra pick-up and delivery, nor did they offer anything for the extra week plus I spent unable to sleep in my bedroom because I had no carpet. Menards explanation - they only sold the carpet, the warranty was from the manufacturer. This is a prime example of buyer beware - don' count on Menards to stand behind any product they sell.
