I went there because it was recommended by a friend. I chose to go there after the summer holiday so as to ensure that there aren't a lot of campers. I just have to give a huge shout out to Wanda who was an amazing host! First I called to tell her I will be checking in late and she found out that a staff member put me in a site that according to her, she wouldn't normally put campers unless she needs to because of capacity. Second, she said that it's ok for me to check in after 5:00 and not to worry that she will have an envelope for me taped to the office door and that to just go ahead and pull up to my site. When I got there after 5, there were only a few campers (exactly how I like it). I did not set up immediately because I was not really keen on the site she gave me. When I saw her pull up to host site, I went up and told her who I was and get this...she allowed me to pick another site that I would feel comfortable to be in! If that isn't customer service, I don't know what is. So I found my spot and I was really happy. What's nice about the park is that they have a store, they sell propane and have a couple of gas pumps! I didn't need to worry about where to get gas on the way back home as my tank only had a quarter of gas left. They only have regular 87 octane, though. And they also have a dump station. The next day I had a chance to look around. You can see Eagle lake but it's a ways off, there are some small cabins that were just basically "tents" made of wood and they also have bigger cabins that were fully furnished with electricity, heating and water. They also have tent sites in addition to full hookup RV sites. In the middle of the campground is a recreation room with a couple of arcade video games and more. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this campground and I can't say enough good things about the camp host! I certainly would go camp there again!

What a wonderful family owned RV park. This was our first time here, and it won't be our last. The place is immaculate, the sites are nicely paved & even, there are NO glaring lights outside that keep you up at night, some sites have a view of Eagle Lake, and the kids play structures are well kept. We brought our bikes and rode around today. I think 2 cars passed us. The gentleman that checked us in was very friendly and accommodating. He talked to my husband and told him the story of the rv park. It's been in the family for many, many years and you can tell it's their pride and joy!! We are glad that we stayed here to support this local family. The on-site general store has everything needed for this small town, including gas/diesel. Oh, and the store is immaculate too! Our DISH satellite worked great and so did Verizon.

Nice Local Eagle Lake trout caught by Larry S.

Really great little RV Park! Big rig friendly. (Hwy 139 recommendation over A21) We have a 38' Class A . Back in and pull thru. Large spaces. Pic nic tables and fire pits. Full hook up. Reasonable on the price. I don't think they're open in October, but double check because fishing season doesn't close until December 31. I would imagine it would depend on the weather. Super quiet & safe. Make sure you bring what you need though! It's a 35 minute drive to Susanville. There is a local store on site in Spalding (on the lake) . They do have gas and diesel & lots of info about fishing guides. Oh! And Ice Cream! All of this is on the North end of the lake. Currently lake level is very low so most fishing is on the South end. There are lots of government mountain roads to explore very nearby. Tons of Bicycle trails and even a 12 mi paved one at the south end of the lake starting at the day use! A very nice stop for a couple of lazy weeks!

A little farther from the lake than we wanted. But still very pretty.

We called about 4:30 to find out if they had availability. She told us the site #. We got a pull thru right up front. We lost cell connection during the call and I had to call back. Apparently when we lost the connection she was telling me not to follow GPS. But I didn't get that piece of important information. Luckily she saw our trailer turn the wrong way and followed us to where we got stuck. We had to turn our trailer around in a very tight space. So DO NOT USE GPS. It a actually very easy to get to if you use their direction. If you are on a dirt road, STOP! The resort was a lot farther from the lake than we wanted. But the views were beautiful. Nice hookups. Wifi is pretty much nonexistent. Water pressure was pretty low at our site #44. Office closes very early 5pm. Lastly DO NOT USE GPS

    Awesome fishing with good friends.

Accommodations are excellent. Fishing is off the hook. Been here on and off for fifteen years. The best place to go for trophy trout in California.

Ask the Community - Eagle Lake RV Park

Does this place get horribly hot in July/August? It looks like the average temperatures are not that bad, but it looks hot in pictures.

This was our first time there and it was not that hot. The elevation is 5000' and when we were there it was about 80 or so. The valley was in the 90's.

Hubby and I recently spent an October Saturday there, hiking a seven mile loop from the Hay Meadow trailhead. Reaching the trailhead itself is something of an adventure, requiring a twelve mile drive on forest service roads. Fortunately, most of the route is paved and in decent condition; the last couple of miles are gravel, and if it's rained could be a problem. We crawled down the last bumpy downhill stretch in our sedan to see a large gravel lot with nary a car in it. There is a restroom, but it was locked. Hay Meadow on the southern edge of the wilderness, where the trail starts, is large and picturesque; I imagine that it is gorgeous in mid-summer with the wildflowers. We hiked in a counterclockwise direction, taking the Indian Meadow, Hidden Lakes, Posey-Beauty, and Cone-Hay Meadows trails. There's an early climb of some few hundred feet, but after that nothing taxing. Much of the hike is relatively flat, and the range in elevation is from 6500 to 7000 feet. About 1.5 miles in you start to see what you came for: the lakes. The essence of this hike is the pleasure of woods and lakes. And plenty of lakes there are. In our seven miles, we passed at least 15 lakes, and that doesn't count the small ponds. The largest was Long Lake, about mid-way through the hike, and the most beautiful was Evelyn Lake, set among rocky ledges, on the return trip. The Caribou Wilderness is typically open mid-June to mid-October. There is no entrance fee nor backpacking fee. While there are no campgrounds near Hay Meadow, there are two campgrounds at the Caribou Lake entrance on the east side of the wilderness. Mosquitoes can be bad in June and July, but we didn't see any in October.

We didn't have time for the whole weekend or else we would of headed back to Mammoth. I forgot how long of a drive it was from the highway, and the scenery wasn't as I remembered.... I think last weekend spoiled my point of view ( higher elevation and gorgeous mountains at Mammoth).... We stopped at Lunker and Snallygaster. Nothing and nothing... (I forgot to grab the rod holder).. hubby won't let me live that one down)... We got to Turkey point and it was much nicer. As we were unloading and started to walk down to the bank another two trucks pulled up. They were friendly with kids, and a huge German Shepherd! Glad he was on a leash. Out of 7 rods in the water and a few boats passing, no one had either a bite or a fish. An hour and half oases and another big group arrives and scatters. I was ready to go, didn't feel like the fish were hungry(but I was)!... I was really impressed with the bathrooms. Extremely clean and sufficient Tp!
