Here- they had a huge inventory of various raw and polished stones, fossils, animal bones and such. And that was just in the Nature Exchange! The park is wonderful too, plenty of trails to lead you down by the river, wonderful trees, great overlook viewpoints throughout. As part of the Niagra Parks system, they have bike trails too. We stopped here twice, once to explore and once for me to pop back in with my photos and pick out a raw piece of turquoise! A birthday win for me! Shout out to the young lady who talked to me in the morning, she wasn't there when I returned- and I am pretty sure the 2 young men thought I was crazy (I am), but they were all very helpful for this big kid out playing in nature!

The boardwalk isn't too long but there's enough room for all the visitors who come by. Purchase tickets at the counter or online, and then take the elevator down. You enter and exit the walk through a tunnel which stays very cool. It feels amazing on a hot day! There are a couple areas where you can take steps down to a dock that's closer to the water. There's also a lot of informational signs about that stretch of the river too, so you can learn more about the water itself and how the land was developed. Once you're down there, there's nowhere to get water, so make sure to stock up at the lobby gift shop and refreshments.

An elevator takes you down 70m go the base of the Niagara Gorge and onto a beatiful, well maintained boardwalk trail. FYI, It is not a long trail. This trail takes you right up close along the Niagara Rapids. Unique view compared to the typical Nigara Falls. You walk back the same way you came to get back to that elevator which leads you back to the entrance/gift shop. Washrooms located accross the street. Option for a shuttle that goes to and from Clifton Hill area (about a 10min drive) from the central Niagara attractions.

I looked ahead on Apple Maps and found this public parking lot at nearby Queen Victoria Park that was a 6 minute walk away. It is a small lot and parking is offered on a first come first served basis. We were lucky enough to snag the last spot and we paid for two hours of parking just to be safe. At the time of our visit (June 2025) the cost for one hour of parking was $24 CAD. I found out later that you can buy a one day unlimited parking pass directly from the Niagara Parks website good for one vehicle at any Niagara Park parking lot for only $32 which is a much better value.

But, this park is beautiful and well-maintained with lovely walking bridges, well-kept roads, plenty of parking, and miles of walking trails. This is where you'll visit the lookouts for Bridal Veil Falls, Cave of the Winds and the Terrapin Point lookout for the Horseshoe falls in the US. The visitor center and complex for the ticket purchase and gift shop for the Cave of the Winds is nice and there is a statue of Nikola Tesla as well as an original historic preserved gate to the original hydroelectric plant here. There is plenty to see and do here in an afternoon and it is time well spent.

The Margery Gallogly Nature Sanctuary is 145 acres of private forest that, instead of being…read moredeveloped, has been acquired by the Western New York Land Conservancy and is now open to the public. There is a loop trail and a spur, which together added to a little more than 1.5 miles long. Some of the trail is on a raised boardwalk because the area can be wet and the trail is not open to dogs. Signage does say that snowshoes and cross-country skiing are permitted. The forest is lovely, especially now with the autumn colors taking over. Although it was dry when I visited, a nice big frog greeted me along the path and reminded me that the area is a wetland area. There were a few families with young children visiting. Other than negotiating the boardwalk, it is an nice easy hike for kids. The nature sanctuary is easy to reach. The trailhead is in the back corner of Assumption Cemetery and there is a small parking lot for visitors.

They have both open single and tandem rentals and you probably do t want longer than 2 hours. The paddle is mostly upstream and not my desire when kayaking. 1.5 paddle up and .5 back. Kind of difficult to stay near the edge when the wake from boats causes sideways waves. The boat didn't have much tracking, but it got us to a huge rookery of. Cormorants. Lots of birds active along the waterway and beautiful homes and marinas. Views of USA and Canada for miles. I think the price for a two hour tandem kayak was 100$ in US It was worth the exercise and beauty.

This business used to be called Niagara Kayak Rentals but it is under new ownership and they are…read morenow known as Kayaking Niagara. We found their website during a recent stay in the area and booked a 2PM trip from Queenston Heights, which would take us down the river to Niagara-on-the-Lake. We were told that the trip would take 2-3 hours with moderate effort, and we clocked in at 2hrs 20 mins. Registering and paying couldn't have been easier. Just go onto the Kayaking Niagara site and fill out a few forms. We were met at 2PM by Matteo at the Queen's Royal Park gazebo, which would also be the ending point of the excursion. We loaded into the Kayaking Niagara van shortly afterwards and were driven to the put-in spot 5-6 miles away. During the van ride, Matteo pointed out areas of interest and told us about the area. He was great. When we arrived, he provided our kayak, oars, and life vests; and gave advice on how best to navigate the waterway (e.g. paddling is more difficult close to shore, stay on the Canadian side of the river, etc.). Then he pushed our boats into the water and away we went. The kayaks were sturdy, handled well, and had a waterproof compartment for storage. Since it was both Canada Day and 4th of July weekend, the river was very busy with speedboats and jet skis on both sides of the border, making the water very choppy and harder to paddle through. But it was very pretty and we enjoyed seeing the vegetation and large houses dotting the shoreline. At the end of the trip, we navigated our kayaks back into Queen's Royal Park (across from Fort Niagara) and walked through the Artistry at the Lake tents back to our car. A few thoughts. My wife and I are experienced kayakers but this was a bit more challenging than we anticipated. I chalk this up to the boat traffic on the busy holiday weekend. There were some cool things to see, including the sailboats at Smugglers Cove and the waterfront houses in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Kayaking Niagara also does not set a time limit for patrons to be on the water. This means that if you want to keep paddling after you reach the end point, you are more than welcome to stay on the water. There are other options as well so check their website for details. I'd definitely do this again.
