BBBSLA is a superb agency that provides mentors to children that are facing some type of adversity. Typically they are children coming from single parent low-income households, although they help kids from all backgrounds. I kind of view it as providing a friend to a child who needs one. Many children need someone to confide in. They don't want to talk to their mom or dad about school, friends, girls/boys, sex, or life in general because they think their parents are, "uncool." Did any of you think your parents were cool growing up? Probably not. The volunteers are thoroughly screened. That was part of my job so I know all about it. We do Livescan, where we scan the volunteers' fingerprints and send them to the Department of Justice. We run DMV checks and contact references. We also interview the volunteers and ask them many questions about their lives so we get a good sense of who they are. All of that information is used towards making a compatible match. The same goes for the families, we interview the parents and children separately to assess the needs and interests of the child. The staff is a wonderful group of people all dedicated to the mission of helping children reach their goals by supporting these 1-1 relationships. They host many cool events throughout the year where all the matches get together. This program helps children in so many ways. It exposes them to ideas and activities they likely otherwise wouldn't have seen. Sadly many disadvantaged children are limited in what they can experience due to their circumstances. It provides them with a positive role model who they can emulate and talk to about their future. It increases children's confidence and self-esteem. And most of all it is fun! I encourage any adult who has some free time during the weekend to volunteer for this wonderful agency. I am proud to say I worked here.

I absolutely love supporting this organization and enjoy visiting their stores because they are the place to go for incredible vintage finds and one-of-a-kind treasures. I stopped by on a Sunday morning and there was a small line waiting to get in. The darling gal that opened the door greeted us with a cheerful "Hello." She was fabulous - walking around enthusiastically telling customers, "That is perfect for you" in Spanish. The excitement was definitely in the air because I happened to overhear one gal's phone conversation. She said, "My mom kept telling me to come were to find a jacket for my trip. I finally said o.k. so she would leave me alone and guess what? I found the perfect jacket and it's my size! I hate it when my mom is right." I had to laugh. Her mom is right though, this store has a vast selection of clothing, jewelry, accessories, furniture, houseware, and other items. Most shoes & clothing are priced at $10. Of course, I fell in love with a stunning Roberto Cavalli dress. Unfortunately, it was $250. I also saw a pair of beautiful Louboutins for $45 but they weren't my size. However, I did score a great little black dress and a pair of sexy L.A.M.B. heels for $10 each. Perfect date night outfit! Now I just need to find a date. LOL!

Considering the condition of most items, I'd say the pricing is fair, but definitely more than most smaller chain and stand-alone thrift stores. The service is great, and they definitely know how to handle a rush or a long line. Some things have price tags and items like shoes might have pricing in washable marker. Donation Center is in the back end with a entrance you can drive up in on the left side to the rear. You can also access the entrance in the far back left side of the store. Great customer service, lots of fun finds! They actually had some boots in my size and a 13 at a thrift store is no easy find! It is the hub from which various other nonprofits voice and turn the wheels of their projects. Even a recent Yelp Beach Cleanup event, associated with Heal the Bay, required volunteers to sign up first with LA Works. For MLK's Day, LA Works planned a morning at Rosemont Elementary where hundreds of people, most of them a part of their employer company (ex. Target, Home Depot, JP Morgan, Accenture), showed up to help revitalize the campus. A radio station came prepared with dancing and music to jumpstart the day. Volunteers were assigned letters and numbers, then told to report to their assigned tasks. It was all very organized and efficient. They cleaned the computer labs, classrooms, storage room and rec room. Adults and kids alike transformed drab brown walls into a playground of rainbows and sunshine. Snacks, juice and water were available throughout the event. Following, food trucks showed up, some of which were either prepaid by the organization or declined to charge. You can become a volunteer by signing up for an account - and then going through their available search options for projects you would be interested in. I like looking through their calendar for a big picture of their activities. Some projects, like anything that has to do with animals, are hot and fill up faster than others. Clicking on the individual project listing will provide a detailed description and, more importantly, the geographical location/zip code. Trust me, the easier it is to get there, the more available and willing you are to enjoy the event, maybe even on a weekly basis.

Traditionally, thrift stores exist to provide affordable clothing and household items while supporting the community, especially during times when many families are trying to stretch their budgets. Unfortunately, many of the prices here feel much closer to what you'd find in an antique or resale shop. I would honestly suggest renaming it to something like "Bridge Resale Store" because I think that would better reflect what customers can expect. It's still a great place to shop if you're looking for unique or vintage items, but if you're expecting traditional thrift store pricing, you may leave disappointed. I enjoy visiting and appreciate the staff and the quality of the merchandise--I just wish the pricing better matched the mission and expectations that come with the word "thrift."

Unfortunately, there seems to be almost no real supervision or management in the gym at all, and there are absolutely no proper standards for maintaining the environment. The staff do not appear trained to deal with conflicts or unexpected situations, and when problems happen, they seem completely unable to resolve them properly. Honestly, this has been one of the worst gym experiences I've had. The environment feels chaotic, unprofessional, and poorly managed overall. I would absolutely not recommend this place.
