Choosing Holding Hands over other facilities is the best decision I have made. Everything is clean ( including their restrooms) Toys are sanitized and well organized. Everyone is friendly and warm. One more thing I love about this facility is that they LISTEN. It is very important to me that people will listen to my concerns, and even if I dont say it, they will give suggestions and inform me of what I need to know, they are able to adjust to and accomodate my requests to meet the needs of my daughter and they were able to resolve issues professionally in a timely manner. Our BCBA Michelle and Janise are very smart, competent and knowledgeable, my daughter's therapist, Angela, is very professional, efficient and dedicated to her work. All of them have been very supportive, understanding and patient, I cant thank them enough for everything they have done. My daughter is hyperactive and runs away from me, she refused to hold my hand or sit still when needed, thats why its hard for me to take her out in public places by myself, its always been a struggle, but she has changed so much just a few weeks of her session, I will never forget the day I was able to take my daughter with me as I run errands, she walked next to me holding my hand. We joined LA Speech and Language's Preschool for it's summer program. The program was held at the…read moreCenter for Enriched Education (CEE) and goes up to Kindergarten. Context: My 3-year-old son has a difficult time adjusting to new routines and people. Incredibly shy and wary of strangers, it takes him a long time to engage with teachers and make new friends. He is also prone to extended emotional tantrums and sometimes doesn't have the ability to self-soothe. The staff at CEE is amazing. He bonded with his teachers the first week and made friends on day one! I cried because I have never seen him flourish so fast in a new environment. Having attended 2 preschools prior, it was always a hellacious adjustment. The teachers are truly caring and the kids are so kind to one another. They do a fantastic job of keeping the classrooms clean. This was the first school where I instantly felt my child was SAFE. CEE is truly a hidden treasure in the hills. The only reason we did not continue at CEE for the school year is because we moved to San Diego. I treasure the time spent there, it is truly the best place for a quality preschool/kindergarten education.

In addition to ABA therapists in the field, there is a BCBA supervising and designing each program to ensure goals and progress are met, with monthly parent/team meetings. We owe so much to FirstSteos for Kids, they truly are the best at what they do.

We decided to do the Kinder Prep Camp after having done the Friendship Club, and were very…read moredisappointed with the lack of compassion and accommodation for our anxious 5-year-old compared to all the other regular camps we did this summer. We received a call within an hour of him being at the camp that he was stressed and overstimulated and didn't want to participate, so he was going to need extra support to stay. This was shocking to me considering how little time he had been there, that the point of it was to help kids adjust to kindergarten, and that their ratio was 2 adults to 7 kids. They told me that he consistently improved over the course of the first day and further improved on the second day, but that it would be too costly to keep another adult there to help him. It was sad for us because he left on a high note, telling me that he'd made a friend and that he had done a better job staying in the group. He clearly felt like a success and I wish he'd been given the opportunity to continue improving, but I didn't want him to stay at a camp where the facilitators believed that he was too much for them. He successfully did a year of TK last year and several other camps this summer, some with a ratio of 1 adult to 16 kids. CSC was polite to me and pro-rated me the other days, but it was upsetting because I assumed the most expensive camp I signed up for this summer (held at a therapy location) would be the greatest success, not the one camp that had to call me about an issue. This camp may work out for kids who are already very familiar with their gym environment and don't really need that much help when they feel anxious, but if you're looking for something that will help your child if they struggle in a new environment, this does not seem like the best choice. Some camps that worked well for us this summer were Pedalheads, Compass Clinic's Friendship Island Camp, Campbell Hall's Creative Arts Camp, and Destination Science.

It is documented on the DCFS report that the director admitted to my son getting hurt at the…read morefacility with a door. I am a mandated reporter as well since I am a foster parent and caregiver. However, I would not call CPS on a family knowing that the child got hurt under my care. My foster son got hurt under Eden's care and CPS was called saying that he arrived to the center with a cut on his toe. They were not looking out for my son's well being, they were covering themselves. This call inflicted trauma on my children, a tremendous amount of stress on us, it delayed the adoption date and it wasted a lot of our time having to take the baby to the HUB, dealing with the cops, speaking to social workers, the attorney and so on. So no, Eden does not have the children's best interest at heart, they look out for themselves. At least in our case. If Eden is obligated to report any injuries, why didn't you guys report that he got that cut under your care?? Why not be transparent with us? I know for a fact that Eden admitted to the CPS workers investigating the case that my son got that cut under the center's watch. You're saying that he didn't get hurt while with you but the director confirmed it to the social worker and it is written on the report. Also, you had nothing to say about my son not being fed all day on one occasion, he cannot speak and neither can't most of these children. I just want people to know our experience. Maybe some people have had a different experience but this was just ours. I just urge everyone to really do their research as I don't want another family to go through the hell that we went through.

Our 11-month-old daughter had been diagnosed with a mild-to-moderate sensorineural hearing loss by…read morean audiologist in our insurance network, who recommended expensive hearing aids provided by their office. My husband and I had reservations about the way the tests were conducted, the incomplete data that resulted from them, and the conflict of interest inherent in an office that both diagnoses and sells hearing aids, so we sought a second opinion at the world-renowned John Tracy Center. First, Dr. Claire Sanchez promptly returned my emails, answering my many questions in detail. She agreed with the importance of comprehensive testing, including tympanometry with acoustic reflexes, distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs), and an ABR evaluation and/or behavioral testing (e.g., visual reinforcement audiometry [VRA]). After speaking with several audiologists and ENTs, our plan had been to wait 2-3 months for a sedated ABR at Children's Hospital, but Dr. Sanchez asked us if we would consider a repeat NON-sedated ABR. Our baby was older than 6 months, making it difficult to do, but she was willing to try if we were! I appreciated her incredible communication skills and thorough discussion of our options. Second, Dr. Sanchez and others (e.g. Bridgette, Leandra) are committed to supporting families in every way they can. Dr. Sanchez found a pair of loaner hearing aids for us if our child needed them to help bridge the gap between diagnosis and potential grants or insurance. Bridgette and Leandra helped us get involved with their online Family Friday School, a weekly informational and support session they offer to families in either English or Spanish. Third, the facility is clean and welcoming, and the classrooms look very conducive to learning and social interaction. Lastly, and most importantly, our audiologist (Dr. Sanchez) was very calm, patient, and skilled with testing our baby. She completed the tympanometry, OAEs, an ABR evaluation, and VRA! The tests actually indicated normal hearing; we are so grateful. I can't believe we came so close to fitting our little one with amplification based on the other clinic's recommendations. Our plan now is to do another VRA in 6 months, and undoubtedly we will return to JTC for that. For a child with hearing loss, this is the place to go for diagnostic testing and support. If you are doing ASL with your child, I would add in early intervention services from your regional center/ SELPA/ school district, and/or a deaf coach from GLAD. If hearing aids are needed and you don't qualify for Medicaid, but the prices still sound astronomical to you (as they did to us), JTC will advise you on grants. I also found through my research into lower-priced options that the SDSU Audiology Clinic offers the Oticon Play 2 at their cost, if you don't mind the drive. Best of luck!
