I guess not everything can be as good as you remember from when granny took us here 40 years ago. It wasn't that busy, but we waited for a table to be bussed. Service from the kitchen was slow. My grilled walleye fish sandwich was way over spiced. The generous basket of chicken livers were good as was the ribeye sandwich with fries. Their coleslaw is vinegar based and okay. No desserts available on a Thursday night. Fresh baked home made desserts come in on Friday afternoons and are generally gone by Sunday. Our awesome waitress told us that tip. She also kept our iced tea glasses full. This is a family owned and operated tavern with kitchen, dining room, and beer garden/patio. Available to cater or host parties.

A true dive but with great service and food - it's clean - bathrooms and food areas. Service was friendly and quick - got the "special" was pork cutlet with green bean and mashed potatoes with gravy . Reminded me of my grandmas cooking . Worth the extra few mile drive off the freeway

Would you like a little bun with your walleye? It was loaded with crumbed fish, and I was filled to the max afterwards!

The fried chicken dinner is an unbeatable value at the Eagle's Nest. It is always a solid menu choice. During my other trip there, I went with the walleye sandwich, and it was terrific. The sandwich was made with a hoagie bun, and there was enough breaded walleye in between to make two sandwiches really. I look forward to coming back.

We heard this place was the best kept secret for fried chicken and we heard right. After heading about the place for two years we took a 35 minute trip to see what it is all about and the food and service was excellent. We had freshly made onion rings, fried chicken and mashed potatoes! Jared was our waiter and he took great care of us! It's worth the trip and we will be back!

Eagle's Nest... a family favorite for many years. Have had some great meals here, but our recent visit was not good. Fried chicken portion was small and dry (overcooked). Food took a long time to come out even though the place was nearly empty (late lunch on a Thursday). Waitress was not friendly at all. Step it up, guys.

    Walleye fish basket, delicious!

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.

Excellent cocktails - both interesting and reasonable priced (IMO). Food was also tasty…read more Wandered in here for lunch after moving a friend on a Saturday, seating at the bar readily available. Parking lot in rear.

This place is a hidden gem! My wife and I went to Belleville last weekend for the Christmas Market…read moreand decided to grab a late Lunch. After looking through Yelp we decided on Charlie's Place and I am glad we did. Small corner pub that has food that is delicious. We walked in and not many people were there at the time, it was that weird off time on a Sunday between lunch and dinner so there were a few regulars and staff hanging out and maybe one or two other tables of people finishing lunch. Went we're hesitate for a minute but grabbed a table, the server was quick and helpful as soon as we were seated. She offered recommendations and took our drink orders. I grabbed a cider on tap and my wife grabbed a Kona Big Wave after she was told they didn't have the yuengling she ordered originally. We ordered the Poutine, because I always have to try it of its on a menu. We added the pub roast to it and that was a bonus call. Try it, seriously you like it. My wife had the Trash Chicken sandwich. The sandwich was HUGE! She had to cut it down to quarters to eat it and still only ate half. I tried the pub burger with onion rings on the side. AMAZING. I also could only get through half. I am assuming between the portion sizes and the fact that we hosed the poutine with pub roast beforehand in the reason we had the leftovers. Extremely impressed with this spot, from the outside you'd never guess the food is this damn good. I can't wait to drop back into this spot to try some of the entrees that are served after 4pm I think it was.

Husband, myself, and one of the kids joined me for dinner here. I was excited to try this place out…read moresince it reopened. ( I never had the chance to try when it was originally open) They were busy! Which I did expect as downtown belleville had a few things going on. They were so busy that sadly they were out of meatloaf and limited on some hoagie type Sandwich. I ordered the pub burger with the garlic mashed potatoes. The burger itself wasn't bad a little too salty than I'm use to. I swore I asked the waitress for the garnishes to be put on the side but they had it all on the burger. ( no big deal) the garlic mashed potatoes was a staple according to a guest that was talking to us as they left. They were good. Mine came out a little on the almost past the Luke warm stage ( I was a little bummed on that). Our oldest ordered the bone in wings buffalo flavor as a meal ( it's an appetizer) she said those were good. We also shared their French onion dip with chips. Husband had the same pub burger but he got his with steak fries. He wast thrilled that he couldn't order the burger in rare form. He too thought the burger itself was a little on the saltier aside. The prices seemed a little steep on some of the menu. ( expected on steaks and fish) I had to give them a bit of grace with all the chaos going on. Our server was kind and attentive. They didn't have much options for the festive drinks. I ordered their thin mint martini. I'd love to give them another shot in the future when it's less chaotic and they have food we want available. I will say th bar itself is cute. Reminds me of cheers. They had their front area setup with fire pits/heat lamps and tables to enjoy some hot chocolate that was only $3 for reg but if you wanted to "boozie" it up it would depend on the alcohol. They had cookies out from The cookie stroll that they offered for free. Then had a nice set up for those interested in making s'mores! Charlie's is located within historic downtown Belleville on the corner of Abend. There is only street side parking available. Keep in mind they do have breakfast or brunch too on weekends.
