This place is a hidden gem! My wife and I went to Belleville last weekend for the Christmas Market and decided to grab a late Lunch. After looking through Yelp we decided on Charlie's Place and I am glad we did. Small corner pub that has food that is delicious. We walked in and not many people were there at the time, it was that weird off time on a Sunday between lunch and dinner so there were a few regulars and staff hanging out and maybe one or two other tables of people finishing lunch. Went we're hesitate for a minute but grabbed a table, the server was quick and helpful as soon as we were seated. She offered recommendations and took our drink orders. I grabbed a cider on tap and my wife grabbed a Kona Big Wave after she was told they didn't have the yuengling she ordered originally. We ordered the Poutine, because I always have to try it of its on a menu. We added the pub roast to it and that was a bonus call. Try it, seriously you like it. My wife had the Trash Chicken sandwich. The sandwich was HUGE! She had to cut it down to quarters to eat it and still only ate half. I tried the pub burger with onion rings on the side. AMAZING. I also could only get through half. I am assuming between the portion sizes and the fact that we hosed the poutine with pub roast beforehand in the reason we had the leftovers. Extremely impressed with this spot, from the outside you'd never guess the food is this damn good. Husband, myself, and one of the kids joined me for dinner here. I was excited to try this place out since it reopened. ( I never had the chance to try when it was originally open) They were busy! Which I did expect as downtown belleville had a few things going on. They were so busy that sadly they were out of meatloaf and limited on some hoagie type Sandwich. I ordered the pub burger with the garlic mashed potatoes. The burger itself wasn't bad a little too salty than I'm use to. I swore I asked the waitress for the garnishes to be put on the side but they had it all on the burger. ( no big deal) the garlic mashed potatoes was a staple according to a guest that was talking to us as they left. They were good. Mine came out a little on the almost past the Luke warm stage ( I was a little bummed on that). Our oldest ordered the bone in wings buffalo flavor as a meal ( it's an appetizer) she said those were good. We also shared their French onion dip with chips. Husband had the same pub burger but he got his with steak fries. He wast thrilled that he couldn't order the burger in rare form. He too thought the burger itself was a little on the saltier aside. The prices seemed a little steep on some of the menu. ( expected on steaks and fish) I had to give them a bit of grace with all the chaos going on. Our server was kind and attentive. They didn't have much options for the festive drinks. I ordered their thin mint martini. I'd love to give them another shot in the future when it's less chaotic and they have food we want available. I will say th bar itself is cute. Reminds me of cheers. They had their front area setup with fire pits/heat lamps and tables to enjoy some hot chocolate that was only $3 for reg but if you wanted to "boozie" it up it would depend on the alcohol. They had cookies out from The cookie stroll that they offered for free. Then had a nice set up for those interested in making s'mores! Charlie's is located within historic downtown Belleville on the corner of Abend. There is only street side parking available. Keep in mind they do have breakfast or brunch too on weekends. read more

Typical bar food with a little bit of what feels like an upscale twist. Parking was difficult - if not in the small lot behind the building, only a couple of on street spots, otherwise limited parking across the street in the grass. Service was not bad. Food was mid - maybe 5/10 but we were hungry. Check your food - as there was hair on our bun. Sandwich was replaced but then new bun was burnt. We did not complain because pick your battles. Due to us having a party of 11, split by 3 families, they charged us 18% gratuity, which is fine, but buyer beware - they charge 3% for using a card, which was not listed on the ticket or told to us prior to giving our server the card with ticket. Didn't find out until they ran our card and gave it back for us to sign. Otherwise we would have used cash. Overall, would likely not eat here again. read more

First time to Charlie's the other week... Wow what a wonderful bar serving insanely delicious (elevated) bar food! The chicken sandwich was large enough to share and the perfect balance of savory and spicy. I think their tomato soup might actually be one of the best I've ever had. Didn't love the food but the bartender was good at her job, she made a blackberry whiskey lemonade for me and it was bomb.

This place is somewhere you can relax with great pub combined with comfort food. I ate the fish and chips, they use Haddock which is mild. The flavor is found in the breading. The French fries are crispy and seasoned, delicious. The coleslaw is creamy with a pleasant taste. I finished with their key-lime pie, it has a thick graham cracker crust. I definitely recommend this desert. The portions are generous. The environment is welcoming and clean with plenty of table and bar seating. There is a side room with slot machines. Bathroom is a clean one seater. You can play darts here and they have various happenings, tonight is trivia night. Lots of beers to pick from to include local beers. Looks like it's a full service bar, I am not much of a drinker so can't say much about the alcohol. The service is friendly and welcoming. read more

My friend the Archbishop suggested we eat here for lunch yesterday and it was fantastic!! I had the meatloaf sandwich and it was so tender and savory on a brioche bun. The French fries were crispy but also soft on the inside...perfection! My friend had the grilled chicken sandwich which he said was delicious as well. My kids both had their pub burger... so good! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was as you would expect from a neighborhood pub. The exposed brick inside this historic building added to the charm. We WILL be back! read more

Up front, the food was FANTASTIC! I've got to admit, we were there on their 2nd night being open, and it was apparent that they hadn't worked out all the kinks yet. They've done an AWESOME job fixing the place up, and cutting out part of the ceiling to let light through the upper windows in the front. But the food took way too long to be delivered to the table. They were kind enough to keep the drinks coming, making the wait more tolerable. I truly hope they work everything out because I believe it can be a wonderful place to get unique menu items. read more

The bar was full so my group sat at a high top tables by the windows. We were immediately greeted by our server,who was the owner. He spoke about how he wanted to be able to jump in and help out everywhere which is an amazing thing of a boss not just to say, but to do. We ordered the trash chicken with fries, grilled cheese with onion ring, a few beers and the onion dip. Onion dip was a small "snack" serving but fed 3 of us and we picked and chatted. Chicken sandwich was perfectly spicy & the homemade pickles were the perfect compliment. The grilled cheese is something I need to eat weekly, wishing and praying they pair it with soup as it gets colder out. We agreed that this will be a weekly after work spot for us! read more

Slow rainy day but it took forever just to get a menu let alone a drink. Menu is very interesting but food does not match the description for example. Potato Leak soup tasted like potato water and it was lukewarm warm. Pot roast sandwich had nice bread but the meat was gray and grisly. Humus was good but you get six little carrots and few crackers for a big cup of hummus. Additional "crudités" delivered but why not do it right to start. Friendly staff but seemed disorganized. After a long remodel, and dealing with issues, they opened. Been here 4 times. Had 4 menu items. All were great, reasonably priced...and, the place looks awesome! Add the fact Lily, the manager is a gem. She is super nice, and very sharp. Owner I met is great also! Small menu which works. To me, places with large menus rarely excel. Keep in mind this establishment is still working out the kinks. But...We ordered the Poutine to start. It had absolutely no meat in the gravy(which is how it's made). I ordered the "Trash Chicken" which was SUPPOSED to be a fried chicken breast dipped in, "house hot sauce". The "hot sauce" simply tasted like Frank's Red Hot & instead if a chicken breast, I got 2 Tenders. The person I was with had the fish, which had NO batter and was fried till it was HARD and CHEWY! I understand being a "New Restaurant". But NOT when you're NOT serving things like normal or how they are described on your menu. I think they need a good teaching & supervising chef to avoid these common sense mistakes. I'll re-review in a couple of months when they've had time to get their stuff together. read more

Just had Charlie's for the first time ever, tonight. My wife (29) and I (35) had a wonderful dinner on our date night. I read the reviews and was convinced to try....this place did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken trash burger and for $14 it was massive, literally 2lbs of perfectly fried chicken smothered just right with a Buffalo sauce. My wife had the cod sandwich and it was a full filet cooked beautifully. Coleslaw was good, tarter sauce good and the ranch. We ordered 1 soda, 1 app and 2 meals and our bill was under $45. I was very impressed with Charlie's Place and will be going back! I wish I had taken photos, so I may edit this with photos next time. (Oh the men's restroom smelt like bubble gum, it was cool) read more
