The waitress explained all the specials and explained what wines she would recommend with my filet mignon. I started my meal with the field greens salad. Needless to say everything was delicious and the filet cooked to perfection. The final wine choice pared beautifully. I have eaten at Earls so many times over the years mainly because of its ability to give great service and consistently delicious food. I have been to the Earl's on 4 Street SW (Tin Palace), 16 Avenue NW, Earls Banff, Dalhousie, Barlow, Westhills as well as the majority in Edmonton. I am a big fan. Some of my favourite dishes are the lobster and Prawn, Peppercorn steak, Street chicken tacos, calamari, Caesar salad, clam chowder, Hunan Kung Pao, Surf and Turf, oven roasted salmon, filet and truffle butter and many of their wonderful specials. You can't lose eating at an Earl's. One of my favourites for years.

This Earls location gets mixed reviews but I've found it fine during both visits (2023 and 2025) -- neither particularly better or worse than others. Bacon Cheddar Burger: Meat is good quality (almost always is in Canada) with a little extra salt. Two pieces of bacon so a somewhat skimpy. Only yellow mustard available, not brown or dijon. Brioche bun held up well. Regular Fries: Thin cut. Over salted IMHO. I pretty thicker edge cut but these are fine. Truffle Fries: White truffle aioli with grated parmesan. Addicting. Grilled Chicken Caesar: Eh. Grilled chicken is good but I don't taste the cajun seasoning. Artisan bread is disappointing. Caesar dressing is strong and tasty. No anchovies. Bourbon Pecan Pie: First bite amazing. Second bite rich. Glad I shared or wouldn't have finished it. Waiters are hit and miss. Some really good, some whatevs.

I feel like the description of "classy version of Denny's" is pretty apt. Last time I was here I got a stir fry with lots of veggies (and maybe noodles?) for lunch which I'd say was 3.5 stars - about as good as Panda Express. The ambiance is very nice and many customers dress up (a few people wore jeans but no one was in sweatpants), and the food is presented nicely - but I think you're paying for the experience more so than the food - with the possible exception of the chicken Parmesan which was really really good!

The glass was getting low when the waitress checked to see how the first few bites were, and asked if I'd like another glass. I said, yes but the small one. When the 5oz serving arrived I added it to the last ounce or so left in the first glass. But when I tasted it, it was not the same light Pinot Noir, but the house wine. I told the waitress that I got the wrong the wine. She took it back and brought a fresh glass, but it was the same wine I had returned. I went to bartender and asked for a sample of the Pinot Noir so I could compare. The Pinot Noir is a much lighter colour, on the red /orange side of the colour wheel. The stuff that I was served was deep purple red. The bouquet of the Pinot, very light and airy, the other had a much more acrid nose. The tastes were incomparable. I finished the sample. And told the waitress that I had still been served the wrong wine. She sent the manager over. I was treated as if I was some crazy senior looking for a freebee. I asked for another sample, so I could show her the difference, but was shot down, by her saying they only give out limited amounts of free alcohol. I felt totally sterotyped and consequently gaslit. Then, my bill had charged for two small Pinot Noirs, despite the fact that I had sent one back. The extra one was deleted when I piointed this out, but I was still charged the Pinot Noir price, rather than the price of the house wine, Rascal, which I was served. It's pretty obvious that they could not admit to the switch-a-roo that may have started as an innocent mistake; the wrong pour. But to pigeon hole me as a senior trying to to get free alcohol, and assumed too ignorant to know the difference. They sure pissed on my personal celebration, and opened my eyes to the toxic agism that many seniors are subject to.
