That day, there were 10 children in the toddler room and 2 teachers. The boys escaped during snack time (which is typically around 10:30). The teachers approached the administrator at 10:45 to let her know that one boy was missing (they didn't even realize that my son was missing until they saw him with the police). The administrator thinks the boys were gone for at least 5 minutes before the teachers approached her. Neither the teachers nor the administrator performed a headcount of the children. Rather than calling the police immediately, the administrator spent 10-15 minutes searching the building. She then got into her car to look for the boys herself. It was then that she saw the police that had the boys. The boys were with the police 20 minutes. The school has NO IDEA how long they boys were gone. We think they were gone 30-40 minutes. At first the boys were together but then separated, with one being found in the middle of the intersection of Euclid Heights and Coventry and my son being found on Coventry and Edgehill. As both of these are extremely busy streets, we were very fortunate that neither child was injured. The daycare has responded well by enhancing their security system and putting redundant staffing policies in place to minimize any risk to your child. The Children's Center at the First Baptist Church has been wonderful with our daughter! The facility is well-managed and the staff are friendly and capable. They are very accommodating with any specific care instructions that you have, and they are proactive about communicating daily issues / tips for parents. The class sizes are small, with a high teacher-to-student ratio, and the older children get to take advantage of the outdoor playground when the weather gets nicer. They also went above-and-beyond by accommodating unusual scheduling requests from our family when our career/housing situation was in flux. Also FYI you do not have to be affiliated with the church in any way to bring your child to the daycare.

There were a few good teachers, but if they weren't there the care was SEVERELY SUBPAR. The facility is dirty and stinks. Expect you kid to be sick every other week even in the summer. I brought concerns to the administrator and was told biting at their facility was normal and I was dismissed. Don't let the fact that they have camera fool you, those mean nothing. My son was illegally unenrolled without notice the next day after a sour conversation where I was disrespected and condescended by Tanya Davis for asking legitimate concerns about the location of an after school event and receiving or not receiving proper notice for the event and location. She stated this was not a good fit for us and because I was talking about her behind her back with another parent was the reason my son was being kicked out. The parents here should talk to each other to see what's going on. The teachers are great, but the updates are received too late in the day usually only for meals.
