There are some places in this world that are so unique they recharge your internal energy and leave you feeling better then when you arrived. Earth and Soul is one of those. The center of this energy is the owner, Sara, who is fun, kind, and exudes happiness.
She has a small shop in front filled with a wide variety of pottery. Some is useful, like her lovely serving platters and bowls; some are fun, like her ornate chess sets; and some are architectural, like her sink basins and shower walls. Everything is unique and a good value.
In the rear is a workshop where Sara conducts classes. Our family of four took on of her classes, and we had a marvelous time, although I am certain none of us will ever become professionals. There are three electric wheels, and Sara walks everyone through the process from beginning to end. We each made a couple of pieces, and we had time to start over several times (it is harder than it looks). We also used a cool machine that rolls out clay really flat, and the we could cut out shapes, or do freehand sculpture. You can do pretty much anything you like. You have to visit twice to complete the class, because the pieces are baked before and after glazing. There are lots of colors and effects to try when you glaze.
Sara allows guests to bring food and drink for your lessons, which makes it a bit of a party, and you can fit in a class after work and eat dinner here.
This was an experience that my family will never forget. read more
