I try to support this store but the prices are very high and I had the worst/rudest interaction with the fish dept. I had the nerve to approach the counter when I guess it wasn't convenient for the employee. He took my first order then barked at me, "What else?" When I repeated my second selection he cut me off with "I got that, what else?" Nothing. Nothing else. I'll never buy fish or feel comfortable in that store again. read more

Since Earth Fare is a local store and convenient for this area, I'm generously rating three stars. I used to visit this store a LOT 8-10 years ago, but haven't been a regular customer in years since it reopened. I recently visited to pick up some BOGO items when I was in the area at the library. The layout of the store was confusing, but I found most of the items I was looking for. As for the ones I couldn't find, I don't know if they don't carry everything in the ad, or if I didn't look in the right spots. The ambience was also a bit depressing, with no employees greeting me (even at the checkout). With no music playing, the store was extremely quiet. It was almost lunchtime, and I walked by the hot bar but was disappointed. I figured at a store like this, the items would all be marked and also have any allergens or vegan/vegetarian items marked, but not all did. The selection was very small and not super appetizing. As other reviewers have said, the prices here are expensive. Some of the brands are at other stores (1-2 miles away) for half the price, including the generic brands such as Field Day. I'm not sure how anyone could afford to do their weekly shopping here. If you want a drink or snack after running, walking, or cycling the Greenway, or a specialty item, Earth Fare is okay. I wouldn't make a trip out here for groceries though. read more

Great selection of healthy foods and products. Sales are pretty good when they offer them. I got two bags of about 6 avocados each for a total of $6. Angus at the meat counter was patient and kind. Bone-in Ribeyes were great quality. They also have a dining area to enjoy near the hot food bar. read more

I would have thought a natural foods store would attract the right sort of customer and satisfy that customer and get better ratings. And when I walked in, it was a reasonably large and well kept store. There was a respectable selection of niche goods. But the prices were tough to stomach. Not needing a ton, I did find some useful chia seed drinks to get my fiber on. When I arrived at the cash register, the poor lady working there was dozing off as it was pretty dead in there. I'm all for a local store and I'd rather go here than Whole Foods, but I couldn't rightly say I was impressed with this one. read more

Every Saturday I go by eFare to stock up on groceries. And every Saturday I have the pleasure of interacting in the deli dept with a young man who is both knowledgeable and professional. I believe his name is Aaron- dark hair; very tall, seems to be in his late 20's. I applaud the store for hiring such diverse young people who are just starting out in the world, testing the waters in their adult lives. His enthusiasm is infectious and ever since he was hired a few months' back I've seen nothing but improvements in his department. I hope to see that he goes far in his grocery profession. I like Earthfare for a few specific reasons. 1. Their pre-packaged individual portion chicken and salmon are great for single dwellers. 2. The fresh meat and seafood section is large and flavorful. 3. Excellent wine and beer selection. 4. Nice section of organics for face, body and self. 5. It is located nicely next to the West Ashley Greenway to shop after a walk or bike ride. 6. Fresh daily sushi. Good spot to shop for specific or all in groceries. read more

Years ago, Earth Fare was fantastic. It seems that with the competition of Whole Foods, Earth Fare has decreased its quality and selection while increasing its pricing. Many of the items at Earth Fare can be found at Harris Teeter for half the price, and I mean the exact same brand and style of item. The exact same brand, flavor, and size of almond milk, for example, may be $3 at Harris Teeter but is $6 at Earth Fare. This is madness. Same goes for Whole Foods, especially during Whole Foods sales. Earth Fare is in a convenient location, but their selection is either lacking or doubled in price compared to competitors. Earthfare is a great supermarket- especially in light of the corporatization of Whole Foods. For those who remember Whole Foods in the early days- that's more the vibe now at Earth Fare. It is smaller but well stocked. The parent company went through a reorganization a few years back and it has improved a lot- the staff is super helpful and the products are great. Earth Fare is great, but certainly not an everyday stop for me. I love the vast selection of local and niche products. I am unfortunately lactose intolerant so I love the amazing selection of lactose free cheeses, milks, frozen foods, and desserts. The produce is scarce and way overpriced. I think if I followed a normal diet, I'd skip this place but it is the only place around that carries some of my favorite items. I went to Earthfare yesterday looking for something to take for lunch the next day. There were practically 0 options. I walked around and the $5 sushi was a good deal, but there was little variety. The deli case doesn't look fresh. The chicken salads look like they have been sitting for days. The salad bat looked okay and there was no hot bar yesterday. There was a sign "sorry for the inconvenience." I continued to walk around and found myself wondering -"why did they reopen?" There have been no changes or improvements and there are few customers and employees each time I go. And to to top it off...no top of the day muffins. (The one item that will keep me shopping there) Please Earth Fare-make improvements-be the healthy supermarket that James Island needs! read more

Bath rooms need to be retiled. Always looks dirty. Suggest Mgr look at how clean your Summerville location is and how it is maintained. Or just look at any Whole Foods location. When a grocery store restroom is dirty it gives the impression that your employees are dirty and don't care about cleanliness. I had to complain about the urinal looking worse than a typical gas station before the Mgr had it cleaned. We are vegetarian and only purchase organic so in that regard you have excellent selection of fruits and vegetables. Bottom line, update your restrooms in this location to make it more presentable for your loyal customers. read more

Absolutely awful store. Terrible place to work too. They don't treat their employees very well, hire people that will ask you to do their job for them, alot of times you'll be the only closer because people call out so often. their managers are completely incompetent and just so many other things I could add to this list. The store is also filthy. They have terrible food safety (most of their coolers are always overtemp and they never get them fixed) there's mold under the salad bar. Earth Fare is the glorious grocery store I go to when I get a fat paycheck or when I want to treat myself. They have an awesome selection of pretty much anything, including great quality produce/meat and cheese and wine. I'm a big fan of all the artisanal sauces and cooking ingredients. As I mentioned, I go when I want to splurge, as it's pretty expensive. I wouldn't go for every week groceries, as it would just be too much. But once a month or when you want to make a special meal and need some high quality stuff, or if you just want to treat yourself- absolutely go!!! One thing they do have very good deals on is the frozen meats / seafood! I wish they had some sort of rewards program, as it would make it more accessible, but not many complaints here from me! read more

In light of my most recent and last visit to Earth Fare I really should rate them with one star. We drove from Mt Pleasant Thursday to buy groceries and support a local store...keep in mind, we drive by Whole Foods on the way! When we got home we noticed a peculiar smell coming from one of our meat selections. The meat was bad, very bad! How the young butcher didn't know this is beyond comprehension but does make me wonder about their rotation process and shelf life guard lines. I didn't want to drive there again so I called. Of course no one would come to the phone so I left a message for the manager to call me back. Friday called again and again left a message. Two hours later I called their home office and again, no one picked up and again I left a message. At this point we got rid of the spoiled meat and want nothing from Earth Fare. We will NEVER shop in any of their stores again and I suspect, they will not be in business much longer based on their service model. Unfortunately, Back to Whole Foods/Amazon! read more

After checking out, I discovered that there were two large mistakes made in what i paid for groceries. The largest mistake was being charged over $50 for 8 oz of baby Bella mushrooms. I was bagging so I didn't see the charge, but the checkout clerk didn't see it either. The clerk should have seen that mistake. I had purchased two small cartons of mushrooms and one rang up correctly, the other was 10 times the price. Both have the same UPC code. When I went to get a refund, the manager acted like it was no big deal. No shock, just a minimal apology. read more

I was really looking forward to shopping at this Earthfare. I'd shopped at other Earthfares in the past, and assumed that this particular store would be as pleasant as the others. I've been to this one about 15 times now, and I can honestly say that I'll never return. The people that work there couldn't be ruder. If you're looking for a grocery to throw a lot of cash at, and feel worse after the experience, go to this Earth Fare. I'll drive 30 mins to Trader Joe's or any other store, for that matter, than save 25 mins by going to this one that's just down the street from me.
