I've never had a bad experience at Earth Kitchen and am genuinely shocked at the shortage of reviews it has on here. Without a doubt, it is one of my favorite restaurants in the metro not only because of its dedication to using only the freshest ingredients in preparing healthy dishes, but also because they have managed to do so without compromising one bit on taste and presentation. I love everything I've tried here: from the mushroom ravioli to the ragu all bolognese to the fish tacos. You also can't NOT try their homemade ice cream while you're here. The pastillas flavor just knocks it out of the park and seals the deal for me. True to its name, the ambiance is very woodsy, earthy and green. It's perfect, really.

Much of the rejuvenating energy inside Earth Kitchen has to do with the rustic design that greets you as soon as you enter the room--a wall of potted plants in one corner, aerial greens swaying from the ceiling. Behind the stalks of bamboo shrouding the windows, it's easy to forget the honking of cars trying to inch forward in the Katipunan traffic outside; even easier to feel great about the food you're ordering when you realize that you're supporting local farmers. Earth Kitchen, the brainchild of Hizon's Catering and Melissa Yeung of Got Heart Foundation, prides itself on using organic ingredients and avoiding genetically-modified organisms and pesticides in their produce. With establishments such as Green Pastures, Roots, and Juju Eats cropping up in the past years, Earth Kitchen distinguishes itself by fashioning each dish to showcase the produce of the Got Heart farms in Tarlac, as well as their partnering communities from Luzon to Mindanao. Healthy doesn't always mean leafy greens at Earth Kitchen. But if that's what brings you here, then their Watermelon and Rocket Salad (P245)--peppered with edible indigo flowers, emphasizing vivid color as well as freshness--should do the trick. And while other dishes can be made vegetarian upon request, I recommend their succulent Beef Kebab (P355) and creamy Uni Negra Risotto (P290) for non-veggie eaters. Afterwards, I like to follow up my meals with a Pitcher of Fresh Dalandan Juice (P240) to cleanse the palate. Most servings are good for one person. While Earth Kitchen tends to keep half of the restaurant open for walk-ins, its proximity to villages such as St. Ignatius and White Plains makes it a convenient spot for families to dine after mass. Parking can get tricky at these hours, but it's also the opportune moment to catch a glimpse of Earth Kitchen's main clientele: families, and women in their 20s and 30s. Yun nga lang. Earth Kitchen is the kind of restaurant that has me crossing my fingers for the next time my relatives decide to hold a reunion, only because the price line is a bit too high for me to justify coming back on my own. But Earth Kitchen makes certain that their food tastes incredible despite the price line. That you can also give back to indigenous communities seems to be an added plus. Maybe, someday, its prices will sink just a little closer to our side of earth.

A trip to The Vegetarian Kitchen is a special occasion for me because it's far (I live in the south) and for me to go all the way to QC, it has to be worth it. And "worth it" is what TVK's food is all about. This place really knows how to do COMFORT FOOD so, so well. Each meal is plated beautifully and carefully, and (pardon the *vegan* cheese) with so much love. What I love about TVK is how vegan-friendly it is. The menu has "V" markers for vegan dishes, and makes it convenient for us vegans. I recommend the Tocino and Tofu Scramble if you're feeling breakfast-y. The Grilled Salmon with Coriander Pesto is a house favorite. You'll love the "fish" they used, which has a seaweed skin. The Grilled Steak Sandwich is great for meat-loving folks, and very hearty. For appetizers, their fried tofu skins are delicious (though, if you're oil-conscious, order something else). Every month they feature a different cuisine along with their regular menu, so clearly there's always a good reason to come here at least once a month! This place really does vegetables the justice they deserve, and this remains among the top veggie restaurants in my list.

It serves Filipino staple foods like Kare-Kare, Pansit, Beef and Broccoli, Barbecue, and many more. The only twist is all of these dishes don't contain any kind of meat in them. How can you have Beef and Broccoli without beef? Is there even a type of Barbecue that's not made out of meat? Well, Bodhi uses tofu as a meat substitute. Their food tastes so good, you can't even tell that everything is made out of tofu. It's way healthier and cheaper. I usually have issues concerning my weight. I just can't imagine myself looking fat. Whenever I feel like I am gaining a few pounds, I just stop eating at fast food restaurants and I go to healthier options like Bodhi. They have a wide selection of meals to choose from and all of their dishes are sold at a very fair price.

Heartbroken and hungry, we kept walking around the area until suddenly, we find ourselves at Soler Street and this yellow sign was staring back at us: GREEN. PLANET. VEGETARIAN. Thank you, universe! I've tried a few vegetarian places in Binondo, but this relatively newish addition to Chinatown takes the whole cake! Taiwanese-owned Green Planet Vegetarian serves a variety of tasty vegetarian and vegan food at super 'sulit' prices. Much like a super clean, glorified 'turo-turo', you can get a rice meal with 3 viands for only Php 100, and with complimentary hot tea, too! Try their veggie sisig (creamy and dairy-free!) and their crowd-pleaser, fried miteng (gluten), which has a beautiful, chewy texture and savory flavor--amazing when dipped in vinegar. Another favorite of mine is their radish cake, a slice for only Php 15! Being sold here as well are vegetarian and vegan food items such as Magic Meat (dehydrated TVP made locally), canned barbecue sauce, and this Taiwanese granulated mushroom seasoning (reminiscent of the local Magic Sarap seasoning--look for the package with that very strange smiling mushroom). I've also heard from their staff that they're planning to open a Makati branch!

Likha Diwa sa Gulod in Krus na Ligas, a few minutes away from the main campus complex of UP Diliman, is a special retreat for those who want to break away from fast food and commercialized food establishments. The surroundings remind one of a secret garden, and the vibe of the place puts one at ease immediately. It is inviting, relaxing and very friendly to the soul. Likha Diwa is a vegetarian and seafood restaurant first and foremost, but it is also a community center for freethinkers and artistic individuals. The premises double as an art gallery where thought-provoking installations and exhibits are mounted on a regular basis. Guests can choose to sit on the low tables, or sit on soft throw pillows on the floor. The menu is extensive, with offerings ranging from Filipino favorites to Western dishes with a healthy and vegetarian twists. I particularly love the kare kare, which is a generous plate of tender vegetables, soft tofu and veggie-tuna meat (a kind of texturized vegetable protein that is a good and healthy substitute for pork or beef). I would usually order it with a serving of mountain rice, which is known to be healthier than white, well-milled rice. I also love the vegetable curry, which has the right amount of pungent and strong Indian spices. Likha Diwa has a very affordable buffet spread every Saturday. For P200, customers can eat as much healthy vegetarian food as they want. The themes are rotated every now so often, with Italian, Greek and Indian spreads repeating after several weekends. The place also sells good local coffee from Kalinga and Benguet .If you want to start eating healthy, try easing into Likha Diwa's menu which offers mostly delicious and heartwarming favorites. The dishes are packed with flavor and vitamis and so rich in character, you will forget that you are eating healthy. Furthermore, Likha Diwa also has a small eco store and gift shop where you can by organic cleaning agents and toiletries, and local handicrafts such as weavings, fabrics and decor.

The interiors must have been designed with the restaurant name in mind, with light apple green accents on white walls. It reminds me of a bright and airy country home - the ones with the white picket fences, except this one has no picket fence. And there are nice quotes about food and eating on the walls, too, with my favorite being the Irish proverb: "Laughter is brightest where food is best." There are also paintings of different herbs on the white walls, and even hanging plants (I wasn't able to check if they were real, though). And the food! (Insert happy sigh here) If there is one restaurant which equally meets the healthy and delicious criteria without compromising either of the two, this is it. With each bite, I was able to savor the wholeness, the healthiness, and the rich flavors of the food. They had a Valentine special when we ate there last February, and for around P400 each, we had a complete meal with banana shake with chia seeds, a fresh salad with calamari and with a delicious fruity vinaigrette dressing, a fresh, rich tomato soup (which is really good that I suspect it was made from scratch), grilled salmon fillet with a creamy though not so heavy sauce with potatoes and vegetables, and chocolate cupcakes. All the food in our Valentine meal is in the menu, though they bundled it to a Valentine meal good for two last February. I have yet to try eating there a la carte, but I hope to try the veggie burger next.
