Back in the Philippines after 9 years...you can imagine my cravings and appetite. Here's what I tried: - Spicy Crispy Dilis: they offered to put the chili pineapple glaze on the side. I'm glad I decide to get it mixed in with the fish. It was still crispy and had just the right amount of heat and sweetness. Eat immediately! - Kare Kare: I LOVED that the tripe was grilled yet still so tender. This added another layer of flavor to the whole dish. The sauce was a smidge too sweet but that didn't stop me from devouring this. The vegetables were nicely cooked as well. Ask for an extra serving of bagoong. - Crispy Kansi: Life changing. The marrow had a slight citrus flavor that cuts through the unctuousness. Spoon some on top of some rice, and top with some gravy = the perfect bite! - Pinakbet: The vegetables were cooked just right. Somehow, the okra was not slimy! I could not really taste the aligue in this though. - Tortang Talong: I had high hopes for this because I love tortang talong. But it was a bit dry, and the kesong puti was so sparse that you don't taste it. - Piaya ice cream sandwich: they had run out of ube and quezo ice cream so I had no choice but to go with vanilla. The caramel drizzle was delicious and almost chewy! But the piaya layers became a bit difficult to eat after being pressed up against the ice cream. I'd like to go back and try the quezo version of this. I think the flavor combination would be more unique. - Crispy Buko Pie: You can really taste the Pandian in this, and you get a generous amount of buko. This should be consumed immediately as well! We ordered 4 entrees for 5 people and it was enough to feed us all. I would recommend thr kaldereta and the isaw! Definitely yummy! Parking is a pain. My friend and I had been wanting to try Sarsa for the longest time! He is from Negros and really wanted to eat food from home. We arrived at the restaurant at around 8PM on a Wednesday. We were expecting the long line but, we didn't expect to be 8th in line when we arrived. After about 35 minutes (and about 8 servings of free peanuts), we finally got a table. Once seated, we immediately ordered the sizzling kansi, tortang talong with crispy sardines and kesong puti, grilled sticks of isol (chicken tail), inasal na paa, and thin cut liempo. Yes, we were HANGRY! ALL the dishes must be eaten with rice. The dishes are rich and fatty and you really need the rice to soak up the sauce of each dish. The dishes are simple but the flavors were the right amount of salty, sweet and sour. My favorite dish, hands down, is the Sizzling Kansi. It is seerved with bone marrow and the tangy sauce is perfect with the tender meat. For rice, you have to try their ginamos fried rice. Definitely a place to visit, this restaurant serves no frills Negranese style food. Great place for casual dining with friends and family. :) read more

I wish they had wifi coz then I wouldn't have to pop over at skippy's first and get tempted by their food and drinks options just to get plugged in the network coz ya know, we don't all have local numbers and some of us rely on our bestfriend wifi to communicate with the outside world. That said by the time we moved over to Sarsa, I got to try the sizzling sansi and the twice fried pork belly. Food was pretty good and got me curious about other items in the menu. Would love to go back here with a big group just to try the other stuff. Photos and description seem so inviting I was silently kicking myself for stuffing my face next door. Oh well, next time! P.S. I have been following Chef JP on IG for the longest time and was looking forward to checking out his restaurant - HUGE disappointment. Isaw - It was good. Never had it before, so I had nothing to compare it to. Kare Kare - Supposedly their specialty, but it was less than mediocre. Should be using oxtail, which has so much more flavor. Sizzling Kansi - Too salty and tasted a lot like Bistek. The only thing I liked was the bone marrow. Munggo - No flavor. There was some kind of battered leaf on top, that was obviously sitting out and was not freshly fried. Tortang Talong - Not crispy as mentioned. Also tasted like it had been sitting out. This restaurant was overhyped. I'm a foodie and I cook, and I thought by coming here, I would pick up some new things cooking-wise, I was wrong. I guess those that eat here are people who don't know what authentic Filipino Food should taste like. I gave it one star for the service and the Isaw. I'm sorry Chef JP, but my Dad even said that my cooking is way better than the dishes we had at your restaurant. If you're looking for real Filipino Food, go to Ayala's Market Market. I would recommend Sarsa for when you have foreign friends to whom you'd like to introduce Filipino food without coming out smelling like sisig, or grilled food. They have inventive ways of introducing Filipino food, particularly Ilonggo fare, without compromising its true nature. Their Sizzling Kansi, for example, is excellent. It is a deconstructed interpretation of the famous Ilonggo bone marrow soup. I also like how they've deboned the inasal and put them in skewers instead. And that they serve Pritchon Pancake (fried lechon pieces in a wrap) with Hoissin sauce. For dessert, we had Piaya Ice Cream Sandwiches, which is a scoop of ube/vanilla/queso ice cream (your choice) squeezed in between two thin pieces of piaya. Their Leche del Cielo had a nice touch of lemongrass in it. However, we did find the desserts a bit heavy-handed: the Leche del Cielo was dense, and it took two very strong boys to cut through the Ice Cream Sandwiches. Other than that, all good! :) read more

I rarely crave for Filipino food because it's pretty easy to find (well, duh) but when I do, I crave for food that could possibly be the cause of my death, and that's exactly the type of food that I ordered when I got to Sarsa Kitchen. I have been disgustingly craving for sizzling bulalo steak for weeks and I was so happy to find out that Sarsa kitchen had it on their menu. Along with that we had crispy dilis and twice cooked pork belly. Not exactly a wise combination but..Wow. I'm pretty sure I hiked up my cholesterol to extreme levels, and I will regret it once I hit the beach but that meal was worth all the possible health complications. We were only two (girls) eating and everything we ordered was scraped off to the last drop of gravy. Ate here with family after seeing few blogs about it. Dissapointed! Their chicken inasal was too oily and undercooked, the crispy isol was starchy and gising gising was to sweet. Overall, I only liked the Batchoy even if it was mostly soup. Worst was their plain rice, I'm quite sure it was NFA rice. This resto is indeed overrated, either their quality declined or they have an effective social media team working over time. My girlfriend is from Manila, and I wanted to wait until we visited Manila together to try Filipino food. Went to Sarsa with her sister & mom. We had pancit, and sizzling kansi. It was AMAZING! We came in after the lunch rush, probably about 2pm, and it was quiet. We were greeted and sat right away. The service was fast & attentive. The drinks were cold, the bottled water was bottomless, and the waiter gave us an accurate estimate of how long it would be before our food came. They say they got inspired by the filipino love for sauces and decided to create inovative variations. We got curious because the place won many "best restautant" prizes and the prices are fair. We had a lechon kawali and a pancake to share. The lechon is actually an appetizer. The portion is very small, good for only one person. It comes with two different sauces. I recommend the pancakes, which I liked more than the lechon kawali. It's stuffed with pork and comes with a delicious bittersweet sauce! It's by Chef JP Anglo and serves Filipino and Negrense Food with a contemporary twist .Always consistently good, the ambience is very relaxed and simple. I always start out with their Crispy Dilis, its crunchy and not hard, it has a sweet chili pineapple glaze. It's an appetizer but my husband likes to eat this with rice. Their sizzling kansi (bulalo on a hot plate) is my absolute favourite. Has a special gravy sauce. Sometimes I switch it up a bit and order Kansi(Bulalo Soup) which is good for two. Ofcourse you can't go wrong with their Inasal. Very tasty. For dessert their mango jubilee and their Crispy buko pie ala mode are my favourite. I've also tried the crispy tilapia with mango salsa and XO sauce and their pinakbet. But the first three dishes are the staples everytime we visit. Every time I want to eat in Sarsa, it's always full. It's really enough to make you wanna pull your hair out, but then again, patience is a virtue. And having this virtue prizes you with a pot filled with incredibly delicious La Paz Batchoy from Sarsa! I really can't get over how good Sarsa is. Serving mostly Ilonggo dishes, updated with a more contemporary feel, it's really a taste of home for me. When you finally manage to get a table in the restaurant, I urge you to try the Sizzling Cansi. It is one big, saucy and sizzling platter of deliciousness. Passing by Sarsa on Rada street is enough to make you wonder what the place has to offer, with rave reviews from noted personalities and respected publications written all over the walls. Inside, you are greeted with a spacious, blue rustic interior and feisty salsa tunes playing in the background. You are served free garlic corn chips as soon as you sit down. You notice tons of sauces (well, sarsa, heh) on your table. You get excited, cause this place seems good... ... But end up being disappointed by the hype, but not ultimately. The food was still good. We ordered the pork wraps within hoisin and inasal chicken with bagoong rice, both were good enough. The wraps were a great kind of crispy but lacking in the actual meat stuffed inside, the inasal seemed lackluster at first but had some really tasty soft and tender parts, and went really well with the rice. Although seemingly a little more upscale, the resto runs on cash basis. It also seems a little undermanned as service took a WHILE during lunch, when the place was full. Their receipts are simply written down, and they didn't give us the correct amount of change. You'd think the lovely interiors would house a clean bathroom, but it was surprisingly dingy and run down. The toilet seat was broken and had untrustworthy spots on it. We had a nice meal here, but I don't think it warrants a second return. Still good value for money though! read more

Sarsa is my favorite Filipino restaurant. It puts a twist on typical Pinoy dishes. The owner is based from Bacolod so there's no doubt that all the dishes will be very flavorful. The Pritchon pancake is the best way to start a great meal - it definitely tastes like the Peking duck wrap in Chinese restaurants because of the hoissin sauce. Pair this pancake up with the Lechon Manok salad that's drizzled with mango tuba dressing. I know it sounds very weird but trust me, it's really something you have to try out. Order also the Tofu Inasal. Tofu tastes a lot better with chicken oil and drippings on it. Make sure to save space for the best dish there - sizzling Kansi (or Bulalo). You also might want to order the Gising Gising which complements the Kansi. I've eaten in Sarsa probably more than 10 times since it's opening last year and I am very impressed that food still maintains the same serving and quality. read more

I was kind of hesitant to actually try this place because it was crowded but I'm glad I did. Their Sizzling Kansi (Bulalo) is to die for! I think it's one of their top sellers. I wouldn't wonder why. It's pretty amazing! The Pork and Chicken Adobo Flakes is good too! It's served with kesong puti (white cheese) and chili garlic. The Tortang Talong with Crispy Sardines and Kesong Puti is definitely a good side dish to share. Their SARSA Batchoy Special is a great noodle soup dish is amazing too! It's packed with so much ingredients and it'll make you full for sure. It has egg, bone marrow, and bacon cut liempo. I really enjoyed eating ar Sarsa because all the things we ordered were so delicious! I am definitely coming back to try their other dishes. read more

When this restaurant first opened, I absolutely loved it. I initially heard about the craze, braved the long lines, and finally understood what all the fuss was about. Their food is surprisingly good despite the home-cooked but made fancy interpretation to their dishes. Their specialty and claim to fame is serving good Negranese food from Negros, a region whose dishes are nothing short of mouthwatering. Although some dishes taste pretty ordinary to me, most of the time, everything is a win.
