Please be aware that the photographs of staff are old photos of the previous owner and founder. That owner's East Beach Vet. won several awards for best in the area. They were wonderful. The front desk and management staff remembered their steady customers and always greeted you and your pet by name. Dr Bonnie Alexander, the owner and founder, was so sweet and attentive. Even if she saw you at a restaurant or other local business, she said hello and asked after your pet by name. On an occasion my small dog was terrifed of getting on the table. Dr. Alexander actually sat on the floor and examined her. The vets there always examined the pets in the presence of the pet's owner. Nail trims and anal expressions were complimentary with your visit. The staff and vets worked for years and this allowed for continuity of care and knowledge of your particular pet. Unfortunately, Dr. Alexander retired and sold her practice. Since then, none of the above is true. There is a large staff turnover and when you go there once a year for check-ups, there are always new people at the desk and new vets so you never see the same one twice. I am really disappointed that Dr. Alexander's practice has changed so drastically. So, if you read their website and see pictures of all the staff and the awards and read the services, that is all Dr. Alexander's practice, not the current practice. They need to change the webpage to reflect the current ownership, etc. They have owned the practice for several years and have never changed the website. So, you can't count on what you read about this practice. read more

The negative reviews about the rude front desk staff at east beach & cashing in on people [ even at the expense of actually helping my puppy the last time I took him] are still true. There is always at least one person at the front desk there who is just sitting there and literally looks like they want to hurt me . Maybe instead of these front desk people acting like they have never heard the song girls in the hood by Megan Thee Stallion ...actual sincere compassion for animals {like the front desk at my new vet that I took my dog to today obviously in pain from his teeth hurting him } would be a good start . Also it is unacceptable that I made my dogs appointment for one purpose and that the vet told me he wasn't able to get a good look at his teeth before speaking to me in a way that seemed intentionally confusing and condescending like he didn't know who the h*** he was talking to like that .. & like I wasnt just going to go to a different vet & that that vet would actually be able to look at his teeth , and then because my dog has an ulcer in his mouth amongst other things , send him home with an antibiotic and some pain medicine too, and then schedule a dental surgery after clear concise and friendly communication with me that was also actually productive and helpful. The vet tech at the new place also made me realize that the heart worm preventative that we give my dog already has flea and tick preventative and that we were just tricked into buying a flea and tick preventative separately so east beach could cash in on us even more. It becomes a problem when you charge us 160 dollars because my dog took a big s*** on the table amongst other things without even doing anything to help him like a dental which is what we brought him in for before we had to book an appointment for the same thing somewhere else & my dog has spent the whole week licking his teeth and CRYING because of the unprofessionalism of the staff at this establishment read more

4. They have a very kind and friendly staff. All of the doctors (with the exception of one who didn't last there long!) are so knowledgeable and treat their patients as if it's their own "fur baby". My older chihuahua is 12 and is now in congestive heart failure. When we go in for her visits, they are always so gentle and they try to do the procedures that are normally done in the back in the room with me so she will stay calm. My little guy has a sensitive stomach and they are so sweet to him and quickly refill his prescription when he needs them. They are so accommodating and I just love knowing they are looking after my babies. They keep them healthy, happy and I can't ask for much more than that! read more

I am skeptical with veterinary clinics. I fear they will constantly suggest treatments and unnecessary procedures left and right! However the East Beach Veterinary Care clinic has made me feel welcomed since the moment I walked in! I appreciate the divided waiting area that way the puppies waiting to see the doc don't get overwhelmed. And they took care of my dog Nellie from the moment they saw her. They did an easy wellness check and advised accordingly. They were willing to schedule Ku follow up before I left and even gave my prescription as soon as the appointment was done. Bravo! read more

do not go here!! if you want to know exactly what is wrong with your baby.. DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. it sucks because the staff was so nice and this is what sucks the most about writing this. they basically played me.. almost 600$ for my baby and they found only one thing wrong with her??? so long story short my cat was stuck in a weird place for more than a few hours. when i got her unstuck she was very wobbly and dizzy and wasn't walking much. after 24 hours of watching her and seeing little improvement, while also getting ready to drive across the country, i took her to the closest clinic that was open and available. yes i read the reviews and was very scared but i had no choice... they took her in right away and was giving me updates. they had found she had a UTI and that everything else was good and that possibly because of the UTI causing her to be wobbly and dizzy. they offered x-rays but that was going to be another 500$ on top of what i already paid for and clearly you could tell nothing was broken in any way. they sent me away with a two week antibiotic. the first few days i could see a difference but clearly she was still wobbly and couldn't walk straight. my mom took her to another vet in Kansas and they found many different things.. a broken ear drum, ear infection, did a scan on her liver and BLADDER EVERYTHING WAS GOOD!!!! and she had no signs of a UTI at all!!!!! the whole thing was the ear infection causing her to be wobbly and dizzy. and after they gave her a better antibiotic and more fluids not even 30 min later she seemed so much better!! more alert and trying to actually move more.... so why didn't the east beach veterinary catch that when i clearly PAID FOR AN EMERGENCY CHECK ALL OVER FOR MORE THAN 100$??? read more

We've had a great experience with all the staff and vets for our scheduled annual visits and immunizations. However, when you really need them for a sick visit or emergency, they are NEVER available. And for days at a time. We waited 5 days when our dog had an upper respiratory infection and needed antibiotics. Recently we were out of town and our dog was see injured at a daycare/boarding facility by another dog. The owners immediately contacted our vet (EB) and they would not see him. After discussing his surgery with a vet hospital who did take him immediately, I found out he would be leaving with a drain tube that needed to be removed in 3 days. EB again would not accommodate a 3 day advance need. So if you are looking for a Vet who does a great job with prescheduled routine care, EB Vet is excellent. Otherwise they are worthless. read more

We have used the Navy Vet for care and vaccination of our almost 10 year old Yellow Labrador. Recently we needed to switch to a vet out in town due to a suspicious mass on his foot as well as a vet for our Scottish Fold kitten. A friend had told us about and recommended East Beach and since it is close by we decided to give it a go. I think I was traumatized by the prices of one of our previous vet offices and thought this would be the same, but it was not at all. For a vet visit, two aspirations and pathology it was pennies compared to the $1000 I had earmarked. So, long story short, the cost of services here is very VERY fair. When the pathology came back as malignant, the vet called my husband and explained what our way forward might look like. Obviously this news was heartbreaking for us. As we worked through what we should do next my husband called the office almost a million times (clearly stressed and upset). The front office staff seemed mildly annoyed but continued to help us work through our next steps and getting us referred to a veterinary oncologist. When my husband apologized they were empathetic and understanding. I mean they could have absolutely been like "Hey crazy, stop calling us" and I probably wouldn't have blamed them, stressed humans act about as weird as stressed pets. As for the kitten, she went in for an initial exam that was required by our breeder (which again was far less than I had earmarked). Due to COVID restrictions my husband couldn't go in with her, which is understandable. We declined vaccinations at this appointment because she had just had one the week prior and wasn't due for her last one until a couple weeks later. They let us know that since she has had her check up we can bring her in for just vaccines with a tech, which is a really great service (instead of going in for another check up with a vet, taking up more of their time for something that isn't needed). I know sometimes it feels like veterinary clinics cost a lot, but the reality (for perspective) is an appointment for a human is usually $100+, I believe the regular appointments at this vet are like $52. A needle aspiration for a human, plus pathology would be upwards of $2000, here it was something like $240. So, again, very fair. I try to rate a vet on a scale of "Would I bring my human child here?" And the answer for East Beach is, absolutely. We will stick with them from now on. read more

I came here because I was very dissatisfied with my current vet at the time. This vet did more for my little Bubby in one visit than my original vet did in a year and a half. She was on palliative care and they made a more difficult situation alot more comfortable for her. She's gone now but if I would ever get another dog, I'd bring he/she here. read more

Such a beautiful new facility, it is such a shame it has to be ruined by such a sour front staff and management. Came in several weeks ago, just dropping some things off for a friend who was there for an appointment, and the staff was very curt and rude. They also really lacked basic prioritization abilities which caused a great deal of frustration and more delays. Doctor was very nice, but the room assistant made everything incredibly nerve wracking by going against what the doctor said which was very confusing. The place just seems very disjointed. read more

This is a great vet practice if you want to spent $150 per year/pet for your pet's yearly checkup. But don't have an emergency. Ever. Their response will be "we can see you in a week to ten days" and then tell you to call Pearl or another emergency vet. This has happened twice with our cats. It's very frustrating wanting to see you pets' doctor and not being able to be seen for 7-10 days. Dr. Bonny and her staff are great, once a year. read more

Picked this vet based on Yelp reviews and so far I'm impressed! The location has plenty of parking, it's a friendly and open space so that if many pets are waiting there are separate areas for owners to sit. This way if your pet is agitated (or someone else's is) you can kind of steer clear if desired. The vet tech was very friendly and seemed to really love seeing each dog I saw her take in. She was also to notice an inconsistency in my prior vetrinary paperwork and suggest a missing vaccination as well as fit in my pup for a nail trimming despite me not scheduling it. The vet is very friendly and frank. I really appreciated him letting me stay in the room for my dogs rabies booster. He also suggested a treatment for my dog I wouldn't have know to ask for (he had bumps I was assuming were going to go away on their own). On top of a great first visit, they also carry a brand I love and offer it cheaper than online. I am happy to have a good vet nearby. read more

Had to come leave a review because of the phenomenal service my dog Honey and I received at East Beach. Upon scheduling Honey's initial appointment I mentioned her behavioral concerns around other dogs, to which they assured me that we could bring her through a private entrance straight to the room. They truly went above and beyond with her - even administering services in the room so that she could stay separated from the other animals. All the staff we interacted with that day kept emphasizing the importance of Honey having a good experience for her first appointment and not stressing her out. I have to also say one of the assistants, Kat, was absolutely so amazing and professional with both Honey and I!! She thoroughly explained all my options for medications and services & had the greatest demeanor with Honey. Highly recommend them!! read more

I have used EastBeach Vet for my dogs, as well as my mother's, for several years now. They are consistent with excellent service and go above the usual necessities. We have dogs that range in ages and our vet has taken excellent care of each. From the initial phone call to the office (which is always answered by a polite voice) , to scheduling an appointment, to coming in and spending time with the techs and Drs -- individually and as a whole, this office cares about their clients and their owners. Cost is discussed prior to treatment and they are aware that at times there are budget restrictions, which I appreciate. Follow up calls and emails are also appreciated. I did not want to believe the prior reviews regarding the front desk staff, but now I do. I had an appointment for my puppy and brought an AKC voucher. My bad, I should have checked if they honored it. The front desk person told me that they didn't take it and all I heard out of her mouth was no until she realized that I was not given a reasonable explanation as to why. The vet was consulted and came to speak to me and explained why they did not honor the voucher. She was kind, polite and personable and let me know the exam was $67 which I would have paid but after my interaction with the front desk, felt I shouldn't. I work in the medical field and was stunned by the rudeness, lack of tact and care by the front desk staff. This is East Beach, not Rodeo Drive, and believe me, on Rodeo Drive they respect where their paycheck comes from and do muster a smile, unlike this office. Up until yesterday, my only complaint would've been their price. They're expensive, but oh well. Pets are family and we'll do anything for them right? BUT. As of yesterday, you lost all of my respect. I asked to get a copy of all records for my three year old dog since I'll be moving. My dog has some anxiety with the vet that had been worsening every time we went, even with trazodone. I couldn't figure out why. Turns out, without EVER mentioning it to me or my significant other, they had been muzzling him when they took him into the back area. To clarify, I would 100% allow them to muzzle him, and I would've worked with him at home to be comfortable in a muzzle. My issue is the lack of communication. He's a ten pound chihuahua who was noticeably "stoned" from trazodone at each visit. I was responsible in giving it to him in order to make it easier on both him, and the staff. I went back in his records to September of 2021, and that's when they started muzzling him. I brought him in once every 4-6 weeks for nail trims and anal glands. So NUMEROUS VISITS. If they had asked me or told me, I would've been fine with it. However, how dare you do something without so much as mentioning it or asking? For over a year and a half? You should be ashamed in your lack of communication to pet owners. So, thank you east beach, for all of the desensitization I'm now going to have to do. I will never be going to another vet that doesn't allow me to be present in the room because of you. read more

It was evident EBVC loves pets and they made a big fuss over my big dog which told me immediately I was at the right place. We were promptly seen, the support staff was very friendly and professional, and Dr. Alexander was warm, personable, and very thorough! Most importantly, she didn't seem to mind all my questions :-) I have to comment on the amazingly friendly and helpful receptionist, Erin, who was a rock star!! The best veterinary practice! Everyone was so nice and understanding! The best experience we've had after trying 2 other vets. Our girl is a staffy mix and is a bit nervous around strangers and doesn't like other dogs. They let me have the last appointment of the day and put us in a room so that we wouldn't have to stay in the waiting room because she was getting really worked up. Our last vet wouldn't even come into the room. This vet (he was a younger man, I'm totally blanking on his name) not only came in the room...*drumroll* ...he took her leash and did a full examination and was petting her! My husband and I were flabbergasted and deliriously happy. He talked us through everything, was very blunt and to the point, showed us her x-rays, was incredibly thorough. They even carried her back into the room (she is 60lbs.) after being sedated for x-rays. We will never go anywhere else. The prices are fair, the entire staff is brave and friendly, and the vet who dealt with us is magic. Your fur baby will be well looked after here! read more

Too busy. Lacking care. No follow up. We are established clients of this vet for over a year. Our dog was attacked by another dog who also goes to East Beach Vet. We live in same neighborhood of the vet. I can walk there, literally. My dogs ear was bitten, bleeding; and while not a severe injury requiring emergency attention, I wanted to have him looked especially as he's an older dog and has arthritis in his neck. I called the vet and explained the situation and was immediately told "we are on our lunch break and no one is available ". Ok. I asked if I could bring my dog by at any point in the afternoon ( it was 12:30 PM) and was put on hold and after a couple minutes was advised " we are booked all day and cannot see you". I asked if anyone was available to talk to, and was told " no". I asked if they could recommend another practice and she said, "Well, you can try an emergency vet"... no name, no suggestion. Really? I asked for a specific name as I've not lived in the area very long and was not familiar with emergency vets. She gave me a name and said " thank you"; clearly indicating the call was over. She didn't even offer an appointment for the next day or whenever they may be available. The vet service she recommended was 19 miles away and about 35 minutes drive. I called our former vet from where we used to live and they immediately said, "put us on FaceTime and show me his ear". They guided me on how to clean the wound, gave instructions for care, and signs to watch for. It's been 4 days and East Beach has not even bothered to call to see if our dog is ok, or if we need an appointment We will find a new practice. Does anyone have a recommendation? read more

I don't know how this vet office has such high remarks. The vet was so cold towards me and instead of giving me reassurance, all I heard from him was dollar signs. When I called, I said I've been ordered by my vet to have a mass biopsy (where I currently go for vet care doesn't do surgeries). Only to find out this office doesn't do that either, and has another office do that work. Why couldn't they have just saved me the trouble when I called to make the appointment? I recently adopted a young pit bull from the Norfolk Animal Care Center on a bit of a whim and have never owned my own dog before. Naturally I want to do right by her so I looked around for a reputable Vet and decided on EBVC. From the initial inquiry into getting my dog an appointment to the final checkout of her first appointment, this clinic and it's employees were just spectacular. The facility is beautiful, clean, and welcoming. Every single member of the staff were kind, patient, and knowledgeable. My appointment began right on time, everything was thoroughly explained (sometimes 2 or 3 times for me), and I felt I got a truly comprehensive understanding of my dog's condition and needs. It's quite a relief to know my dog and I will be in good hands indefinitely. Fairly priced and at no point in time did I feel taken advantage of or misled. Highly recommended. Thanks EBVC! read more

I am super impressed by this place. This is the only vet that was able to get a same day appointment for a dog with a lame leg. The staff had a great sense of humor, was super friendly and absolutely did everything to make sweet Halo feel comfortable. We saw Dr Nelson (who neutered my cat back in 1999!) and she is crazy awesome. I'm glad I found her again. Although the news about Halo's limp ultimately ended up to be not so good, the genuine compassion, concern and care she received was beyond exemplary. We have been visiting East Beach Vet for a few years. We had just taken our oldest lab, Admiral, to an emergency clinic the night before. After some testing at said emergency clinic we left with the news that he must have had a tumor on his brain and wouldn't have much longer to live. The news was unsettling and forced us to seek a second opinion after he developed more uncharacteristic symptoms over night. We called East Beach Vet (in a panic) and they took us in first thing the next morning. Expecting the worst, Dr. O came back with some better and solution based news. He didn't have a tumor on his brain, he was diabetic. The way Dr. O kept us calm, but also empathetic for all of emotions in the waiting room, has kept us loyal to this vet clinic. The front desk always calls us to check-in after each visit. They have a great, and organized, online booking system with reminders. They also understand and encourage being cost effective with your pets. Admiral, now pushing 16, is living his best golden years and has introduced his new, little brother Skipper to the East Beach team. Skipper has learned to flirt with every vet tech, doctor and assistant in the office and they always give him praise and adoration. I really loved this place when I first came here, but after today, it just pushed my buttons. They only see you and your pets as a money machine. In no way do they try to understand where you're coming from and can't afford the expensive medicine they try to push in your face for your pets. My cat has thyroid and the last time I had taken her, Dr.Alexander gave her enough medicine until her next check up. We had said and asked if that was enough because we would be going out of town until the following week. Well she told me that my cat's thyroid was off the charts and looked to blame on me that "we shouldn't even have done her blood work if her medicine was gone." Wait what? 1. You need to ask if the medicine lasted and note it also. 2. We were on vacation and told her that it should last until we came back. It lasted about a few days until our appointment. 3. We all have busy lives so I can't always be there to get the medicine and when I'm there it's closed. I had explained that I wanted to try the thyroid dosage to once a day and then get a prescription for thyroid food at petsmart. She gave my husband and I an attitude then went to fill out the prescription. When she handed the prescription to the tech and the tech mentioned she had the food in a bigger size, she was like, "no they want to go get it somewhere else." I was thinking in my head, well you told me that you would order it for us so that resulted in us wanting to go somewhere else because we can't take off work all the time to go pick things up, but since she said that, I'm going to get it somewhere else now. It riled me up. She didn't even bother to make another appointment for my cat to check her thyroid level and with that, I am taking my dog and cat somewhere else from now on. Good bye East Beach! You were good until today. I will not be putting up with this anymore and if you're treating my pets and myself as your personal ATM, you must be wrong. The tech's and Dr.Drinkwater are super awesome, but this little fiasco just drew a deep line. read more

Great place to take your pet! They took care of our ailing pet at the very last minute's notice, and they aren't even our primary vet; Banfield is, but that's another story altogether! The vet determined that our lethargic chihuahua was suffering from something called Pyometra, and that we had to take action asap. They set up the emergency vet appointment for us, and sent over the X-rays before we got there, which made the process so much smoother and easier for us. Needless to say, we have a new primary vet now! Thanks again East Beach! Thanks to the Dr. That looked at our "Lulabelle", and the office cleared that assisted us during both of our visits! read more

When they were in their previous location, i liked taking both my dogs to them. Up until i took my oldest dog at the time in and with no "bedside manner" was uncompassionately told "youre dog has cancer and will die pretty soon". During Covid, they were in their current location and took my other dog in for checkup/shots, etc. of course they would not let me go inside so i told them that i have to know how much money this was going to cost beforehand. They quoted me $200 or so. When i got my dog back, it was almost $500. Since they moved to the new location, they are all about money. You gotta be rich to take your pets to them. Recently i tried to get my dog an appt and was told that since i had missed an appt before (surge underway with no cell reception, tried to explain but the person i talked to could care less) that i would have to pay them $50 before they would even give me an appointment and that would have been 10 days out. And in the meantime im sitting here watching my dog slowly pass from a cancerous tumor on his face. Yet they wont help him because i wont pay their extortion fees. But this experience was smooth as silk, and he even got his nails clipped! No easy task by a long shot, to perform on a Maine Coon Cat! I was new to the area and called all over town looking for someone to get my older dog in for what I thought was an eye irritation. EBV was able to get her in quickly. Thank Goodness! The Veterinarian checked her over and (I apologize that I do not remember her name) took one look at the eye and said she was not going to do anything to it, rather the dog needed to be seen by a specialist right away because the eye was full of blood. This is all she did AND this is why she got an amazing review. 1-She recognized that it was an emergency/urgent 2-She could have run a bunch of tests first THEN told me to go to the specialist ...I would have never have known that they would not have helped the situation ...just cost money. In the end East Beach did not charge much, just the exam fee...and we were fist time visitors. I appreciate an honest business. When it comes time for my dog to receive other (non eye) treatments I will be coming to East Beach! East Beach Vet was so nice! They handled my sharpie pit mix wonderfully! He's very anxious and hyper but they were able to check him out and treat him (without a muzzle which is why I left the last vet) The location is perfect and well kept and the staff were extremely nice and accommodating! read more

The vet assistance were customer friendly, dog friendly, and kid friendly. I experienced all three, and they also give a 5% military discount.
