We approached from the bridge and looked out toward the upper decks of Fenway Park, and the sign simply became part of the visual geography of that part of the city in a way that few pieces of advertising ever manage. The sign is a large triangular structure with an illuminated CITGO logo that cycles through colors at night. Seeing it after dark is considerably more impressive than during the day. The nighttime version, with the lights shifting against the surrounding urban skyline, is what earns the sign its reputation as a photograph worth taking rather than just a thing we pass on the way to the ballpark. The connection to Fenway Park and Red Sox baseball is part of what has embedded the sign in the local consciousness. It is visible from the outfield seats and certain sections of the park, and when the Red Sox hit a home run the sign has historically lit up in response. That gives it a participatory function within the game experience rather than just a passive presence on the skyline. For a piece of Boston iconography that costs nothing to see and requires no planning, the CITGO Sign is a quiet landmark that rewards a moment of attention, especially after dark when the city lights come alive. It is not a destination on its own, but it is a meaningful part of the Kenmore Square experience and worth a glance whenever you are in the area.

We were only in for probably 15 minutes and covered it all. Open weekends only. Entry is $5 pp and parking is 50 cents an hour. Interesting, but I wouldn't go out of the way for such a brief experience.

This is a pretty good bridge for a walk being that it is well over two thousand feet long…read more It's also good for a run and if you are into bicycling there is a bicycle lane on the bridge so you can ride safely over it. If you're driving over the bridge during rush hour traffic it can get a little backed up but for the most part traffic moves pretty smoothly going from one end to the other. This is the bridge that connects Boston to Cambridge so if you are doing a walk along the bridge you can get some gorgeous views of the Boston skyline and MIT. I have walked over this bridge many times and I always make it a point to stop for a break every now and then during the walk so I can take in the views. Anytime you can walk over this bridge during a sunset is definitely a bonus!

As I was riding the bus from Boston to Cambridge, I couldn't help but notice how stunning the views of the city were while it crossed over this bridge. I noticed several pedestrians walking and running across, so I immediately stopped at the next bus stop and headed there to get a closer view. It was the perfect time too because the sun was starting to set. Walked across the bridge and then stopped to admire the colors in the sky. Stunningly beautiful views! Not only did I have the perfect sunset, but the city views were amazing too. The skyline glows at night! If you're someone who enjoys scenic vistas, then you will definitely appreciate what the Harvard Bridge has to offer. The walk across the bridge is pretty delightful as well. There will be other people and of course cars crossing, but it still has this element of peace to it. Maybe I was just too entranced by the sunset to pay attention to anything or anyone else. I did notice that other people stopped and watched the sunset too and took several pictures. I'm guessing that this is a popular spot for it. It felt extremely safe to maneuver even during the night. When in Boston, you're probably gonna have to cross this bridge at some point to reach Cambridge. You might as well make it a point to take a nice little stroll over the Harvard Bridge while you're here. I'd say that it's worth it and so would my pictures too.

It looks similar to the other one just down the river, but I use the other one much more often, which is the Western Avenue Bridge, because I'm usually traveling from my friends' houses in Cambridge into Allston to have some fun. This one was built a year later but it looks very similar. I'm pretty sure the same designers and what not are responsible for it. It looks a bit like the famous Pont-Neuf in Paris. It's gorgeous.

There is everything you need within walking distance, hair salons, drug stores, auto parts, supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, ice cream spots, everything even two libraries. The intersection at glendale square is very busy. Please watch out for pedestrians as I mentioned, this is a very walkable neighborhood, and it is full of pedestrians reminiscent of Boston in Cambridge. The square is under renovation, streets, sidewalks, etc. at the present moment. If you're ever in Everett swing by for a peek and visit one of the shops, keep local businesses and business.

The town also has a good selection of restaurants and yacht clubs. I understand the school system is very good. This would be a great place to bring up children or for singles that love the beach.

This isn't an industrial city which means that it mainly consists of residential areas. I would live here forever if I could. Close knit communities and quiet areas means that there's a lot of peace of mind when living here. There are two major reasons why I HAVE to give it four stars instead of five. 1. There always always seems to be construction going on. Like Dan G. mentioned earlier, there is one Dunkin Donuts location that chokes up traffic all the time! Not only that, but they have been working on the bridge there now for over a year and they JUST finished ONLY half of the bridge.. which means there's halfway more to go. It is HORRIBLE in the morning to get from inside the residential areas of Winthrop towards Boston because of it... it's actually a nightmare. 2. Logan Airport. It's located RIGHT beside Winthrop and jams up cellular service. I lived in the downstairs apartment of my landlord and I get no reception whatsoever on my phone, and the internet connection is horrible. Just TRY to watch a single video on YouTube.. it's nearly impossible to finish a ten minute video because the connection is so bad. My landlord tells me that they keep a land-line in their home because their cell phone service is so bad. Beside those two crippling downsides, there's just no way I would call Winthrop "perfect" but it comes damn close.

However, the town still had the old residents listed at my location for excise tax purposes because the town was sending the old residents tax bills which I had returned to the town. As a result, the town didn't send me an excise tax bill until after it was due. I spoke to the tax collector over the phone, and was told I wouldn't be charged any late fee, and to pay online. When I paid online, I had to pay the late fee. The tax collector had lied to me because she didn't want to defend her mistake.

I've been Reading up on Massachusetts towns, and I found a lot of new ones that I want to go visit…read more One of many that I've already visited is Reading MA. It's absolutely gorgeous here. Not far from Peabody and Salem, in the north suburbs, it's being swallowed up by Boston's northwards expansion, but still retains a charm and is part of an amazing greater Boston area. Named after the important city in England that I know well, and nothing like it. A lovely and calm community with not much crime, and having friends here, I've stayed here on half a dozen locations and I'm sure I will again.
