The woman who met us was super kind and gave us lots of great local recommendations and helped us through the choices at sign in! Jonny, Charlie and Drake were champs! All SUPER kind and patient with our questions and taught us a lot about how higher altitude hang gliding works. We were also interested in they were eager to share their knowledge! The actual ride up, in the sky and descent, could not have been more smooth and professional and comfortable, and one of a kind lifetime experience! It really is like being a bird! We were attending an event which we flew to in California and this was a gift needed to arrive in that timeframe. Almost 8 days after the order was placed, the item had still not arrived. I called several numbers on website several times explaining the situation but only reached VOICEMAILS. Not one person returned my calls. After we returned home, the item still had not been delivered to the recipient. It finally arrived 10 days after purchase - not 2-3 as indicated when ordered and paid for. After I emailed them I did not receive a personal response - instead an automated message telling me a portion of the amount I paid for the item was being partially refunded (the expedited shipping cost). I requested a full refund. This business needs to take inventory of the responsibility they have ensure elevated customer service and satisfaction. I would not recommend anyone place online orders from Kitty Hawk Kites after this experience. A huge disappointment as a business.

The Pit has now become a long-time fixture in Kill Devil Hills. I remember when it opened. In the…read morebeginning it was just a club that would let kids under 21 so they had somewhere to go listen to bands, play games, and hang out. Then they expanded to the surf shop and built a separate building. Now they have Boardriders Grill. In the main building you'll find the "hang out" part. Downstairs on the ground floor is a stage and venue for bands and parties. On the main floor, there's a dining area and small bar. On the top floor there's some video games, pool, and chairs to chill in. Sunday is Euronight with electro/house music spinning and Thursday is Mug Night. At The Pit out back the surf shop keeps expanding so I can't even keep track of all that's offered. I will tell you that they keep up to date with all the rad stuff locals and surfers need to keep up with the island image and life. They offer board rentals, surf lessons, lots of cool stuff. One thing that's really cool is that they're home to "Skim City" which is a sick skimboarding brand. My brother used to be sponsored by them and my family was never short on encounteres with the Skim Crew! A boardsport lifestyle comes as naturally as going barefoot on the beach and The Pit acknowledges that. The Boardriders Grill has come a long way to have a following of its own. $1 tacos from 4 to 6pm and all day on Tuesdays always draw a crowd! I don't know how else to describe it but how they do -- a surf-inspired menu. My Mom loves their fish tacos and my friends and I can barely handle their burritos! Spice and gargantuan size with fresh fixin's. I love that you can eat inside or out on the front deck and the service is friendly and fast. You never know you'll run into at The Pit. Steve Pauls and Ben Sproul have done a pretty good job at keeping it up for locals and visitors alike though. Stop in and hang out...you'll have a good time.
