I'm writing this review to urge other families of the negligence Michelle is capable of. She endangered the life of my baby during my wife's labor. After a complication arose, we luckily made the call to transfer to the hospital when we did as Michelle never expressed an urgency or notion of how grave the situation truly was. While we were leaving for the hospital Michelle seemed more concerned with draining and packing up her birth pool then in accompanying us. While my wife was being wheeled into the operating-room she was texting me asking to confirm the hospitals visitor policy instead of being there to support us the way she should've for contractual reasons but more importantly for moral ones.   In a perfect world birth is uncomplicated and a midwife is often there for support and to hold space. It is also equally important for them to use their medical training to aid in situations when birth sometimes does get complicated. Training Michelle was too careless to employ. Michelle has iced us out from contacting her since our attempts to talk and work through what happened. She has shown us no desire to right her wrongs. She is not a midwife we would ever allow to walk through with us through another birth journey. read more

My experience with Michelle was really great, and I would recommend her for midwifery care! Michelle is laid back and soft spoken, she never pressured anything on me or made me feel like the choice wasn't mine. She presents information and options and leaves the final decision up to you, this is a such relief when you are well researched and knowledgeable about the kind of pregnancy and birth you're hoping for. Prenatal appointments with Michelle are never rushed, there were times I was in her office for close to an hour. When my labor began, she was communicative with us via phone and text before we made the call for her to head our way. One of my favorite things about my experience with Michelle is how well she could read me while I was in labor. She is so intuitive and when she arrived could see that I was in a state of not wanting to be disturbed, and she accomplished that as I didn't even notice she had arrived! Michelle will be as involved, or un-involved, as you'd like to be. I know that if I had needed her to step in more she would have, she sat close by and observed, letting me go as undisturbed and uninterrupted as possible. Michelle brings such an atmosphere of peacefulness with her. Overall, Michelle is so kind, caring, and empowering. Be aware of the dangers if they choose Michelle as a midwife. Birth is unpredictable in nature, but Michelle cannot tell the difference between a head-down and a breech baby, even at 10 cm dilated. She put myself and the life of my baby at risk as we were in labor for 24 hours with no clue that my baby was breeched, finding ourselves going to the hospital and having an emergency c-section - which I would have been ok with if I didn't find out by a nurse at the hospital that my baby was breech. Any reasonable midwife under the circumstances of our labor would have identified the breech position of the baby early on in the process. I was referred to Michelle by a friend and I'm so grateful she was my midwife. This was my first birth and I had exactly the birth experience I wanted. She's calm, kind and understanding. She worked with what I needed, I only attended one birth class but loved it and she's pointed me in the right direction for doulas and doctors after my baby was born. Stay away i am writing this now because she has shown us the type of person she is . i was reluctant at first because i thought she'd actually do the right thing but we've been waiting two months for documents , and she kept my payments even though she didn't complete her services with us and agreed to refund us as well . stay far away . Her practice is UNETHICAL and IMMORAL . she led us on pass 42 weeks . no transfer of care no referral , she simply continued to prescribe us ultrasounds every week until 44 weeks . then one random day requested the pool . leaving us completely lost on what to do , and where to go . we gave it back and upon that day she agreed to a reimbursement of funds due to services not rendered . we decided to just go to the hospital 6/09/23 . on the day of our babies birth 06/13/23 we received a letter in the mail stating that our care was terminated after 40 weeks . confusing because she continued to care for us all the way to 44 weeks . in her words "off the books" (unethical) . we spoke once more on the phone about the reimbursement ( only requesting half to be returned) . then after that radio silence (immoral) . she blocks our phones from reaching her business , saying something about us not being in her care any longer .. but if that was the point our phones would've been blocked may 20th or whenever 40 weeks was (immoral/unethical) . following that she emails only one portion of the contract and not the entire contract stating that she isn't refunding us . THE CONTRACT WAS COMPLETELY BREACHED hereby VOIDED . we requested all of our documents and she just ignored us for over a month now she's completely disregarded us . still no documents we even filled out forms to receive them . 8/2/2023 . michelle isn't a trust worthy human , she's a liar . she shouldn't be able to practice midwifery, she is a danger to mother and baby. how she handled the situation was highly unprofessional and simply wrong . we've spoke to our lawyer and will be seeking further action . but after 2 months of trying to get response we are going to the courts for an answer . Sad part is , we are apart of the same community so we'll see her around as well, and my partner is completely heart broken by the way michelle abandoned her. read more

I wasn't sure how I was going to go about writing this considering how fresh in postpartum I am/how sensitive the subject but I find that I owe it to other women seeking potential care from East Coast Midwifery to share my experience. I want to say that I'm a firm believer in labor/birth as a physiological process & that intervention often hinders that process. However regardless of how natural birth can be, having the ability to assess it properly is imperative for the safety of a woman & her unborn child in the case that a deviation or a complication arises. When I first met Michelle, I felt assured by her calm & laidback demeanor. During the course of my prenatal care I felt well taken care of & felt as though my concerns were taken into consideration. It wasn't until our home visit at 37 weeks that I encountered the first red flag. Michelle was over an hour late & offered no explanation as to why. I decided to ignore it & didn't bring up it to her thinking maybe she just mixed up the time. When it came time for the birth was when the major issue arose. As I hit transition things started to stall. My husband & I had educated ourselves on the stages of labor & how long they should last. We attended her birth class & knew what to expect in the final stages but as first time parents & being in the thick of labor for 36 hours with little to no sleep we were relying on Michelle's guidance. After several hours had gone by indicating my labor had failed to progress, is when Michelle began to fail us. It took close to 10 hours from when I hit transition for her to perform a cervical check & discover I had a cervical lip preventing the baby from descending. After pushing against my body for hours causing my cervix to swell around my babies head & saying things such as "could he be stuck" "why am I having pain between contractions?" Etc. it should've set off an alarm for any professional midwife indicating a necessity to asses the situation and intervene if needed. Michelle did attempt to manually remove the cervical lip but at this point she was hours late. She said she was incapable of doing it after 2 failed attempts. At this point my husband & I were desperate & exhausted. Michelle suggested the hospital as an option. She assured me that it wasn't too late to get an epidural & I would likely rest for a few hours & then push the baby out OR we could wait it out at home & the lip would go away on its own. Something I later learned was dangerously irresponsible to suggest. Upon my arrival to the hospital I was being cut open in under 2 hours due to the distress the baby was experiencing & the erratic drops of his heart rate. The OB on call explained to me how risky it would've been to wait any longer at home & the likelihood of my child surviving would of been slim had nothing changed. He also said that had the cervical lip been identified & assessed sooner by my midwife that I would've likely been able to have given birth vaginally & a C-section could of been avoided. He stated that if I chose to have another home birth to make sure I choose a different midwife. I do not blame Michelle for what is beyond her control. I do blame her for her lack of diligence and the risk it imposed on us. Also worth noting, she did not follow us to the hospital as promised, breaching contract, but more importantly leaving us in a vulnerable state when we had placed our trust in her to look out for us. That has been the hardest pill to swallow as we genuinely felt she abandoned us in our darkest hour. When my husband reached out to her after the birth she lacked accountability but more importantly lacked empathy for what happened to us. She messaged me stating she was disappointed we could not meet to "talk things through" though my husband explicitly stated a desire to meet with her & discuss what happened. She blocked our numbers (we have come to learn is a pattern with her & other families she has wronged) & requested for us to correspond with her via email though we have already sent a few, including some requesting documents, which she has ignored. I can see how some women have had positive experiences with Michelle with their births unfolding complication free, however if you want a midwife who knows how to take charge & handle issues that may arise do not hire her. She is not prepared for situations where labor/birth deviates from the norm as clear by my experience & the experiences of other families who have left negative reviews. It's also clear that if you express any grievances with her she does not know how to work through them with you like an ethical professional. Lastly, I urge anyone looking to take their prenatal and birth journey with Michelle to research the complaints filed on her by the Florida health department. (She was somehow able to delete mine) I am grateful Yelp has kept the my review. She has never contacted me again about the money she agreed to reimburse. I really enjoyed my experience using Michelle Cerami and her assistant for my birth team! This was my fifth homebirth but first in this state, so I had to find a new birth team upon finding out about this pregnancy. Michelle listened to our needs and desires for our birth from the get-go, and helped those come to fruition! We definitely shopped around looking for a midwife that would fit our specific needs, and Michelle was wonderful to work with. She was very flexible with everything! It was so wonderful to develop such a close relationship with the main person who would be assisting in the care and delivery of our baby. Her assistant even took pics and video and compiled them within a few days into a tasteful, well-made keepsake! I was very happy we chose Michelle and her company for our homebirth! I think the only con was the building her office was in, the elevator was old and didn't always work. So at follow up appointments bringing a stroller wasn't a possibility. But this is of no fault of hers, just wanted to make people aware. read more

I could not have asked for a better first home birth experience. The birth of my daughter will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will forever be grateful for Michelle. From the very first appt she listened and took all of my concerns into consideration. I never waited for appointments nor was I ever rushed during them. She took 45-60 minutes per each visit to truly listen to me and ensure that I was doing well. Michelle went as far as checking my diet and mental health prepping for the big day. When the big day arrived she arrived to my house quickly and stood by my side the entire time. She made sure that I was comfortable and relaxed. She didn't rush anything even after a long labor she stood after to clean and make sure we were fed and comfortable before she took off. Michelle texted and stopped by the following day to ensure that myself and the baby were doing well. She is truly the best. Throughout my pregnancy I felt safe and comfortable. The recovery was a breeze compared to the birth of my first daughter (a hospital birth). I highly recommend Michelle & her team you won't regret it!! read more

I'm truly grateful that I had Michelle as my midwife. She was recommended by the mother of one of my students whom she had helped birth 7 years prior. They praised her calm, poised nature during birth, saying that her presence was exactly the energy you want during a natural birth. I couldn't agree more. We started working together when I was about 15 weeks. I had 2 negative experiences with OB's and was exploring an alternative outside of the medical model. After our first conversation on the phone, I knew this was the way I wanted to go. I also knew that this was a heavy commitment. I was going to have to put in the work to make sure we (my partner included) would be ready for a natural home birth. My partner joined me on as many of my appointments with Michelle as he could. They were at least an hour long and we felt free to ask all the questions we had. Michelle would send us links, videos, info packets based on the questions we asked. In the beginning, we craved information, and Michelle supported thoroughly. At week 20 I had a scare. I had intense lower abdominal pains. This being my first pregnancy, I was scared. I reached out to Michelle and she had me come in right away. She checked baby and he was ok and I wasn't in labor, which I was afraid of. I had a ruptured cyst and ended up going to the ER. Michelle was texting me and checking in throughout the night and next day. The rest of the pregnancy was beautiful. Michelle shared a book, Childbirth as a Right of Passage by Rachel Reed. Highly recommend to all women! She would also host women's circles where we could share stories and women could connect and be heard. I would go to the prenatal yoga class she taught on Saturday's as well. It felt amazing. Her support helped me tapped into the inherit intuition that we all hold as women. My partner and I attended the 6 week birth education class with other couples. It was completely informative and also great to meet other couples on the same journey. We made great friends! By the end of my pregnancy I was ready. I had all the knowledge I wanted, and more importantly I was empowered. My birth was transformative. It was long. Over 3 days of labor. Michelle came to the home early on and brought the pool. She had to leave for another birth but sent a birth assistant, the lovely Jordan. She came back and stayed the rest of the time, sleeping overnight on our couch. She would gently come and ask if she could check the babies heart rate and check my blood pressure. She was so confident that it helped to ease the doubt that was creeping in. When I wanted to move things along, she supported by offering techniques. Not too long after, I began to push. I'll never forget the moments leading up to him coming. Michelle and Jordan in front of me with smiles on their faces, comforting me, saying words of affirmation. I felt their excitement, doing exactly what they should be. We absolutely love Michelle. I truly feel she is doing the work she is meant to do. I know I am stronger and wiser, as a women and as a mother because of my experience with her. read more

I love Michelle! She's very personable and professional. I had my 2nd homebirth in March. I choose to have a hands off pregnancy and I was supported my entire pregnancy by East Coast Midwifery. She respects your wishes and will educate you through any concerns. I appreciate that they allowed my husband to come to all my appointments as my support person. With covid restrictions, it's very hard to find offices that "allow" you to have that. The office is beautiful. They do most of your care in office(bloodwork and labs). She always follow up with test results quickly. ECM offers birthing and education classes as well as placenta encapsulation. While I was in labor I called her and she came in ample time. She was there the entire labor and helped catch my baby while she came earth side. She knew exactly when to help guide me and when to let me do my thing. I cannot say enough positive things about Michelle and how eternally grateful I feel to have had her as a part of my pregnancy journey and birth. Michelle failed us as a midwife, her negligence put the lives of my unborn child and wife at risk. Her lack of knowledge and hands off approach caused my wife to labor for 24 hours without ever discovering that our baby was breeched. It wasn't until a Nurse at the hospital checked that the breech was quickly diagnosed and mentioned by anyone for the first time. Michelle performed vaginal exams at 6 cm dilated as well as 10cm. She had her fingers on our baby during a vaginal exam and showed a progression of descent while my wife pushed, Michelle still had no idea she was touching our baby's butt and not its head. We then let hours pass before finally heading to the hospital, still with no idea our baby was breeched. My wife ended up having an emergency cesarean delivery and I was unable to be there for the birth of my baby. When Natural childbirth goes right it is the most beautiful most powerful thing that a woman can do all by herself, But when something isn't right you need to know, you need someone there who will know and knows what to do. The birth of my second baby was truly magical and life changing. I know it wouldn't have been the same had I gone with another midwife. Michelle is calm, confident, and everything I needed this time around. She truly cares about the mom, and believes in our natural abilities and instincts. I had a traumatic experience with the birth of my first child under the care of another midwife in the area, which ended in a hospital transfer from the birth center. I know this 100% would not have happened if I had found Michelle the first time around. After talking through what had been done to me by my last midwife, Michelle recommended a therapist to make sure that the trauma didn't effect me this time around. I was really dragging my feet on contacting the therapist but Michelle knew how important it was and made sure I followed through. My therapy sessions and Michelle's calm confidence in me made all the difference. She believed in me, my body, and my choices, which gave me the confidence to trust my body. Stay away from Michelle . This lady thinks she knows it all when in reality, she knows nothing. Michelle missed my 37th week home visit and sent SOMEONE who I did not hire as my midwife to my appointment. The whole point of this appointment is to ensure that the midwife knows where to go, park, etc. to avoid any mishaps. I asked her if she would like to reschedule because my apartment building can be tricky. She declined and sent Malu. I went into labor at 230am. I called Michelle to let her know, her response was "Do you think I should come?" Excuse me?! I paid you $6k, you need to come and not ask me stupid questions. She clearly takes her sweet time to get my apartment. She got LOST and did not show any compassion for her MISSING my birth. My boyfriend and mother had to deliver my daughter on the floor because of this. I had her a hour later, safely no thanks to this useless midwife. She then proceeded to blame ME for being "uneducated" on precipitous birth. I call BS. My mother was the same distance as Michelle and got there in time to deliver my baby. Michelle then agreed to give some sort of refund because she missed a huge part of her job then did not attend my postpartum visits, she sent Malu AGAIN. When she decided I wasn't worthy of some sort of refund, she ignored my calls and texts from me and my lawyer. She also blamed me on google for being "unprepared" instead of taking accountability. She's just terrible and does not care about you as a human. Even my pregnancy visits she showed little to no interest. Disgusting. read more
