4/18/21 Garden centres are one of the few retailers allowing in-person shopping during this time. Oddly, I can only buy garden items in person at a garden centre but am forbidden to buy them at a Dollarama or big box store while I'm there. Uh okay, fine. With all the craze in the plant community, downtown big box stores are selling out of orchid mix and giant potting soil bags for online pickup. Local garden centres rarely carry stock online and aren't too helpful on the phone either, so you'll have to pay them a visit to pick it up. East End Garden Centre has all you need and more to get your outdoor urban garden started. They have lovely wooden trellises, stones and soil at reasonable prices. I picked up a few bags of veggie soil for only $5.99 for a 30L bag, a better deal than the commonly found Miracle-Gro in big box stores. Potting soil that is usable indoors is $1 more. All the reasons to shop local! If you don't have the room or time to start your seedlings, you can pick them up for $4. I see strawberries, peas, but no tomato plants yet. I came on a Sunday; it was bustling but not packed, so social distancing is possible. I browsed their houseplant section indoors briefly, not too attractive and slightly more expensive than other local shops I frequent. The drawing point continues to be their outdoor gardening and landscaping items, but if you're lucky to spot something nice, you can pick up a houseplant baby as well. read more

When you walk into this place and ask for help, it is like you have bothered a brain surgeon while they are operating. Absolutely miserable. My partner bought me a $300 gift certificate which was lost in the shuffle at Christmas. We asked if they could look into their records to recover it, and they flat out refused to get up off their lawn chairs to assist. They don't keep records of it apparently and we were basically told they are keeping our money and we can't do anything about it. Highway robbery. I really don't know why anyone shops there! read more

I bought five indoor plants for here last year in 2021. Three of them had various bug infestations that only became evident weeks later. They included spider mites and various soil worms / centipedes. Too bad as i like the store and the people but the quality of they indoor stock is quite poor compare to other places I have used in the past. read more

Hate putting bad karma out there with poor reviews, but I have given this place enough tries as they are just around the corner. I've bought multiple annual plants ($70+ each) here that were bug invested and died shortly after purchase or I had to treat them. When I called and said there were bugs, they said they could sell me a spray, but would not fix the problem or do a refund. Would love for them to be a friendly neighbourhood garden centre, but they are really the complete opposite. High prices, VERY bad service and sub par quality products. I really like this place, have been coming for 3 seasons since moving East. I can see how some people might get agitated by not getting Home-Depot-like service, but this place is old school, and yet very resourceful with product, knowledge, and ability to accommodate if you need something slightly different. I personally have had nothing but very good experiences here. Better than the box stores in my mind, and here, you get to meet other like minded gardeners. read more

I spend a few hundred each year. I bought two 57.95 Boxwoods recently within the last 3 days that I bought by mistake. I Should like to exchange these as they are not planted and still in their tubs outside with their tags still on. I called and was told no exchanges! Useless to me as my landscaper says they won't grow like the yews I meant to buy! Anyone want two free boxwoods worth over 100.00? I will be looking for a new garden center in the beaches. read more

I'm extremely disappointed in the bad service I received on my third visit here. I've bought three beautiful Michael Carr plant pots from here before and recently sent an email and Instagram messages to East End Garden Center about one pot in particular that I was looking for to match an existing one I have. I am well aware that there is currently a pandemic and there would be delayed responses to messages on social media platforms. After not receiving a response in over a month, I decided to stop there on my way home today and a lady who I assume is one of the main ladies there, seemed to be very agitated with my question about whether they had the pot I was looking for, but gave a white gentleman more polite responses. What I find particularly frustrating about this is that I've tried to reach out SEVERAL TIMES to inquire about the item before coming to the store. There was no need to be rude. Also, the time it took for 3 ppl to check for the pot, someone could've already responded to my msg on IG. But I digress. My hope is that you all take the reviews posted below into consideration. We are all learning, try to be better. As for me, I'm not going back. This isn't my first bad experience there but I decided to return because they are the only ppl I've come across that carry Michael Carr designs and unfortunately the public can't order these pots directly from the website. I'm very happy with my dealings with the East End Garden Centre. I called to set up firewood delivery (and stacking). The staff was friendly and the arrangements were made quickly and efficiently. The cost was very reasonable as well. The delivery guys were on time and very pleasant and professional. It's going to be a long winter (even more so with the pandemic), but I'm well stocked up with firewood. So pleased with the East End Garden Centre and I'd definitely recommend them to anyone. read more

I've been buying my flowers, garden & seasonal needs here for at least 7 years... prices are fair (for the city) and selection is quite good. I don't know what all these people are complaining about. The ladies that work here are knowledgable and straight to the point. If you require a lot of hand holding and "fluff" to buy your flowers, maybe not the place for you. I FRIGGIN love gardening. Nerdy yes, but I don't care! Not surprisingly, garden centres are always big excitement for me; however, I do not feel this way about East End. In fact, I have boycotted shopping here despite the fact that I feel strongly about supporting local businesses. The selection of plants is okay, the prices are a little high but not outrageous, and it's pretty conveniently located for me. I have decided to shop elsewhere because I find the staff downright rude. Anyone can have a bad day. Any place can have one sour employee, so I pass this judgement based on numerous encounters I have had at this place. Terrible service. The two women running the place are as helpful as a tree stump and rude while at it. I went there last spring and thought...pandemic, everyone is a little off. just went there today and if anything they are worse. The little troll sitting on her butt to write out the the prices on a piece of paper so you can go pay, also rude. Clearly it's a toxic environment in that place. NEVER AGAIN! I don't write many reviews but felt it necessary given the poor service we recently received from EEGC. We were looking for help improving our small front yard ready for the summer and after looking online Judy and team seemed to get good reviews. The project started off well enough, with a competitive price and 'no nonsense' approach to making our yard ideas a reality. After that point things went rapidly downhill, with endless delays coupled with flimsy excuses and countless broken promises to call back and reschedule. We can only assume the project wasn't profitable enough to warrant their attention. Highly disappointing. read more

Good, but small, selection of Christmas trees at a local business in the east end. A fella outside helped us select a tree, then trimmed the trunk and tied it up for us. They also had a whole bunch of fresh garland and wreaths, as well as shiny baubles and fancy festive sticks to complete your seasonal decorating. The inside of the shop is decidedly bare bones and beat up, but I only needed to go in long enough to pay (credit and debit accepted). I'll head there next winter for my tree. read more

I don't even think one star is deserving of this place. I was so excited to find them online, and had so many questions I needed help with. As everyone has mentioned, the staff is rude and unhelpful. Horrible service . I was shocked as I asked residents about East End Garden Centre on the Beaches site about firewood. It is obviously hit or miss. We ordered 3 chords a few weeks ago. The wood was dark because it had dirt all over it and damp. We have tried everything ti burn it. When I spoke to manager about it she argued that all her wood is covered and is never wet. I posted to see if somebody wanted it but I cant give this poor quality wood to anyone so I took down my post. Im paying a rubbish removal service ti take it away. Even when it dries it wont burn because its so dirty. Please be careful when you order from them. Don't order in winter obviously. read more

Highly suggest not using these people for delivery of firewood. We tried them once. We had paid the additional cost to have them stack the wood for us in our outdoor wood stand, asking them to please use the cover. When we went out back, they had stacked the wood and had not used the cover - meaning that we had to spend an hour UNSTACKING the wood and restacking it ourselves properly and in the cover. When my fiancé called to complain, the woman lied to his face saying that she was not given the cover. We've since switched and will not be returning to this garden centre. They also left without leaving us our full order of wood. Poor service and even worse customer service. read more

Worst customer service I've ever had. They were reasonably friendly until the day I got charged twice for flowers on my Visa card. I called three times to try to resolve it, and each person I spoke to gave me the name of someone else, who in turn gave me the name of someone else. The only consistent point was that each of them were snotty. They claimed that they had never received double payment, even though it clearly showed up twice on my Visa statement. It was a relatively small amount of money, so not worth wasting a lot of time over, so in the end, I walked away to cut my losses. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. This is the type of hardware and garden store that has everything except exactly what you are looking for. But don't let that stop you. They will always have good advice. They are a bit abrupt with attitude and service but you wont fine more knowledge and experience. Just picked up a christmas tree, lights and stand from here and the service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and the slection of trees was huge. Different types, sizes, shapes, everything. We got a nice 7 footer for $75 (no hst if you pay cash) and it looks great in our condo. read more

East End Garden Centre has the rudest staff in TO. I never shop there and stopped going many years ago. If you ask a question of the staff they are rude and the old woman there is down right nasty! The plants are over priced and they have a shit selection of vegetables for planting. I bought swiss chard 2 yrs in a row and it was crap and never grew. read more

I will never spend another dime there, took me a few years to come to this conclusion, unfortunately. Staff is crotchety and cantankerous with the exception of 2 women who generally work the cash inside. Made the mistake of having landscaping done and poorly constructed framing, that was costly to replace. They only reason they are in business is there isn't much option in the area....worth the drive to feel comfortable and not feel like your inconveniencing the grouchy staff. read more

I've been going there for about six years now, spring, summer and fall. They know me to see me and are friendly enough [read: not at all rude - rather, just direct]. Let's be clear though - this is a garden centre and not a flower shop. If you want dainty service then you're going to the wrong place. Yes the ladies are tough, but you're buying dirt, stone, green stuff and yes they do some very good flora. If they were blue-collared males also with workin' persons' hands I'd expect absolutely nothing different. I've never had them do work for me so I can't speak to that. Bottom line is that for Leslievillians it's convenient, fairly priced, open whenever you need them to be, and most importantly, they know their stuff. If you want average advice with a smile, go to the big box store. If you wanna get it done right with no messin' around, go to this place.
