Absolute Garbage Company - I bought 4 rolls of sod. When I unrolled them at home, 3 were virtually dead. Went back the next day and they refused to do an exchange or a refund. They take absolutely no responsibility for selling dead product. They lose at the end because I've been spending between $400-$500 per year there for at least a decade. I'll never go back there. I've shopped at 2 different Toronto locations of Sheridan Nurseries over the years. The large parking lot was fully but I managed to find a spot after 5 minutes of queuing. Only 90 people were allowing into the grounds and that wait translated into about 1 minute since people were coming/going at a pretty fast Sunday afternoon pace. You will pay a little more but they stand behind their products; plants, trees, etc. The Neptune Hybrid Tea Rose (Lavender) plant purchased today has a 1 year guarantee. Staff were friendly, saw my wife had a list in her hand, and came over and asked if we needed help. Well, 5 questions & answers later, he guided us to the two areas to make our selections. I had worked for S.Nurseries 1980s and truly enjoyed being a crew foreman for the landscaping department. Great place to work. Loved the many different plants, trees, and flowers so quality grown. Absolutely great. Nowadays, I've been driving a transport truck but I'd rather be in with Sheridan Nurseries driving towards a more satisfying way of life. read more

Went to the nursery to buy some plants and trees for my backyard. I found the plants but I was having a hard time locating the trees. I asked several staff to help. First, they ignore some who responded were too rude and unhelpful. If you know what you want to buy you can go and buy as they have good stuff but if you need help rather go to another nursery like Humber, their staff is very helpful. I don't recommend Sheridan Nursery Burnhamthorpe. read more

Since I had a great time with their location down at Southdown Road, I took an opportunity to visit this location hoping that they would have a larger selection. Unfortunately, the Mississauga/Oakville location is much larger and the selection of plants was better there. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the many different flowers and houseplants available here. I've also noticed that they offered free plant food refills when you purchase their labelled jugs for $3 which technically pays for itself! I did notice that a lot of their vegetable plants were wilted or half dead which I found were in much healthier state at their other location. read more

Unfortunately good customer service is turning out to be a thing of the past. This is the case with my recent experience with Sheridan Nurseries. Today after having checked the website for the hours of operation I took back an earlier purchased failed tree. I had heard wonderful things about the customer service at Sheridan Gardens. I also coordinated with my partner who drove separately from a different location to select a substitute tree. I arrived at 6:10 PM, when I noticed the store was closing. When I spoke to the staff, they mentioned to me that the website posted hours was 6 PM and the store was closing at the posted hour today, i.e. I was wrong. When I approached them with the website showing that they published an 8 PM closing, they just brushed it off as something they're not responsible for. The store is closing at 6 o'clock and there was no interest in understanding why I was there. When I approached the store manager, she reiterated the same, not offering any additional help. It was only after I threatened to post this review about their handling of the situation, and the fact that they had not updated their website to reflect the updated hours of store operation that she offered to take my tree in for a refund, but by then I was too upset that I had to threaten a bad review to actually receive a good customer service. I then informed my partner to not come and return, then I left the store. Moral of the story is call before coming near the web posted hour, as the store manager does not care for verifying updated hours are reflected on their website. Also I no longer believe this Sheridan nurseries practices good customer care. Maybe they're too big now to care for customers like me. read more

CHILLING WITH THE PLANTS ON A SUNDAY! I love it! So warm it felt like spring time! Not a huge selection of herbal plants at this time of the year but didn't bother me too much! Very good deals - some plants were on special! The plants have their own warranties! Love it! The potters were a bit expensive for me so I passed on those but they had very nice selection! Cute gift shop too! They host seminars which is really cool too! Nice place to go relax and browse around. 5 stars if the plant section was a bit bigger and if they had more selection of lower priced potters. read more

I just spontaneously stopped by 'cause this place was enroute and I wanted to see if they had the Crispy Wave plants. And guess what?? They DID! So that was definitely a bonus. The nursery itself is quite relaxing, sorta like a trip to a botanical garden...without the admission fee. :P My parents TOTALLY did this with me & my sibs as children. Anyway, within minutes of me walking in, I was greeted AND asked if I needed any assistance by 2 separate associates. Another bonus. The associate didn't know what kind of plant that I was referring to when I used the grocery-store-name, but I described it, told her it was a sort of fern in which she showed me where the ferns were located, and voila...there it was. Price(s) were sorta high, $7.99 for a 4" houseplant which I *believe* would cost maybe $3.99 at the grocery store/Ikea, but they have a 3 month guarantee for all the plants that they sell. Another +1 point! Tip: Don't be cheap. If you see a houseplant at a decent price, just buy it 'cause you may never see it at these common places again!!! read more

I went in the store with my friend since she's scouting for pieces for her clients (yes, she would've been a repeat customer) and decided to look for two indoor plants. I approached the cash register as two employees were chatting with each other. One knowingly acknowledged me as if urging me to ask my question, while the other stared at me as she continued to share her story with her co-worker. Fine, I'm not rude and I can wait a few minutes. I mean, her story must've been amazing. I asked if someone could help me find indoor plants, so they asked me to wait in the "Potting Station" as they called someone to help me. A minute or two passes and an employee quickly approaches me and mentions (a few times) that she's on her lunch break and asks me what i'm looking for. When I finish answering, she walks over to some plants and answers, "whatever you're looking for has a blue tag and it's in this section". Clearly, she's in a hurry and couldn't be bothered with me, so I say that she should just go back to her break...so she walks away and calls another employee to help me. As the other employee approached me, I mentioned that the previous one couldn't help me since she's on her lunch break and I even chuckled since I thought it was funny that the employees would call someone who was *clearly* on her lunch break! *Clearly* since she'd mentioned multiple times that she was on her lunch break. OK, I get it, you're on your lunch break. The employee replies, "she's on a tightly scheduled break" (something along those lines). Then she asks me what i'm looking for and I begin to answer her, then, she interrupts and asks "what size"?. I'm considering her question since I'm wondering if she means the size of the room or the plant. Before I could respond, she proceeds to USE HAND GESTURES that corresponds with, "do you need a LARGE? A SMALL? A TALL? WIDE?". Yes, she was that condescending. So, I walked away and said no thank you, I no longer needed her help. I was clearly pissed off. She asks again to help me and I refuse her again, I continue to walk away. I refuse to be treated this way. Why was I treated this way? Because of the way I look? Was it the way I was dressed or for another reason? I cannot fathom the reason as to why MULTIPLE EMPLOYEES treated me like a piece of garbage. I mean, seriously, I'm a customer looking for two plants and, also, oh yeah, the store WAS NOT BUSY. As my friend and I were about to leave the store, I told her what happened. I couldn't let it be, you know why, because another human being should not be treated this way! So, I asked to speak to the manager and I proceeded to tell her my story. She was kind and apologetic, but by now it's too late. To the rude staff members at Sheridan Nurseries..be GRATEFUL. Please, be GRATEFUL for your jobs. It's a beautiful store that's represented such great memories for me as a child growing up in Canada and in this neighbourhood. Now, this is the memory I'm left with. I hope that no one else will be treated this way in this store. Did I mention that the store was almost completely empty with about 10 employees working yesterday? Visited this nursery today and it is quite a nice one. The indoor greenhouse portion is small compared to my more local Sheridan, but had a nice variety of plants and a cute little kitty planter. Found an oxalis which I haven't found in any other local stores, and at a very good price as well. read more

We've been wanting to do some "pot-scaping" for quite a few years, but there just never seems to be the right time to start or to invest. This year we were determined and so weeks before we were ready to make the "big spend" I called ahead and had a great conversation with the staff here, they stayed on the phone with me for nearly an hour discussing our various options and best practices. The gent on the phone even gave me the heads up that they would only be getting one shipment of the insane hot peppers (Carolina Reaper, Ghost Pepper) and once they were gone, that would be all. The day came of the big spend and we ventured to Sheridan Nurseries to begin buying our supplies. Several times we felt a bit lost and flustered but each time the same customer service lady was within earshot and came over with an abundance of suggestions and best practices to make our first foray into gardening a successful one. This isn't to say I won't still screw it up but after spending 2-3 hours here and talking each step through for every plant purchase I feel pretty confident in our purchases and how to care for them. We bought an assortment of organic herbs, a cherry tomato plant AND two kinds of lethal hot peppers including Thai Dragon and Ghost Pepper). I will reserve the final star for one of my next visits to see if service and quality of products continue to meet and exceed expectations. Definitely a great spot with way more information than Home Depot or Lowes. read more

What a wonderful, magical place. There's so much to explore at this nursery! Being the 23 year-old grandma that I am, I spent over an hour and $80+ on plants at this joint. I came in to buy an aloe vera plant, and walked out with that, plus three house plants. I really like the way the place is laid out, and the signs were all quite helpful... So much so, that in my hour+ of browsing, I didn't have any questions/need for the staff. At checkout, when I did interact with them, they were nothing but helpful and pleasant. Yay! read more

It's baffling how well kept this place is. I'm not all about gardening and plants - my parents are - but I quite enjoyed looking around. This nursery's got it all - helpful staff members, a variety of plants, patio furniture, flower pots, fountains and other garden accessories. Why buy flowers at Loblaws when you could buy some here? My parents swear by the quality of this place. The only items I wouldn't purchase here are the patio sets and garden furniture. They have some beautiful selection, but are almost twice the price of the stuff at Canadian Tire and alike. read more

I love this location better then any other Sheridans. Even though there is one closer to where I live, I still come here to get my plants in spring time. There staffs are very helpful, and they are very knowledgeable. And there indoor pond is really nice, when it feels cold and gloomy in winter times, I would go spend sometime watching the fish and turtle in the pond and walk around the houseplant section, and I would feel much better by the time I leave. read more

I'm fairly new to gardening but I love what Sheridan has to offer. They have a wide selection of vegetables, flowers, plants, bushes, trees, houseplants, fruits, etc. inside and outside. They always have very helpful staff inside. It's a bit pricey, but you know your plant isn't about to die and you're able to ask for helpful advice instead of the typical employee that knows nothing about taking care of plants in say a grocery store or Walmart type places. They also offer a selection of lawn furniture and fun goodies that are nice to look at, but REALLY expensive compared to Walmart and Canadian Tire. My only thing about this Sheridan is the limited outside staff - near the far end where the trees and mulch are there is always one or two workers but in the middle, I'm hard pressed to find a free staff member to talk to me about bushes/small outdoor plants. They're always speaking to customers for an extended amount of time so I wait around for 5-10 minutes or sort of figure it out myself. There's always the option to go all the way inside but I've already walked a bit of a distance out....anyways still a great store! read more

Although most of the field staff at Mississauga location is nice, but management is really arrogantly and prices are way above the other nurseries. I bought few hydrangeas couple of days back, and two of them didn't survive. I went back today to exchange 2 plants. I informed the cashier that i just want to replace them. She was very nice and asked me to pick up any two hydrangeas and she can match the price. I went out and there were no healthy plants in white hydrangeas, so i picked up 2 pink of the same size. Coming back on the counter i encountered another cashier who bluntly refused to acknowledge price match offered by the previous cashier. I asked for the store manager, and he called the assistant manager saying manager is on vacation up to Monday. I informed the assistant manager of the situation, and asked her to come with me outside to show if there are any healthy white plant; and there was none. Still she refused to acknowledge the commitment of the first cashier, and arrogantly refused to exchange with the pink plants. I was upset, so i said i would not come to your nursery again, and she responded "that's fine". i have never seen this level of apathetic customer service before. read more

One of the best neighbourhood garden centres in the city. They stock a huge selection of outdoor plants and indoor plants (even through the winter) which are always in healthy condition. They have knowledgable staff which are always available to help you out. Prices tend to be on the higher end but you get what you pay for in product and service. read more

I was given a gift card for Sheridan Nurseries a few years ago, but never had a chance to go. Today, I finally decided to make the trip and it was more than worth it. (For context: I'm an aspiring green-thumb with medium-low experience and my mum is an avid gardener. ) Upon arrival we were greeted by staff - not in a pushy sales-person way, but in a friendly "nice to see you" way. Our shopping experience was pleasant. There were staff scattered throughout the very tightly packed, but well planned rooms. No one tried to "sell us" anything or push product, but instead they were available and approachable whenever/if ever we had questions. The plants and products themselves were organized in sections that made it pretty easy to find what we were looking for - and some things we didn't know we were looking for! Reasonably priced and very clean for a greenhouse, compared to other similar stores. The staff at the checkout were friendly. She asked us if we wanted to join the mailing list, have our receipts emailed instead of printed and offered us a "trunk liner" for the car so we wouldn't get soil everywhere. We were REALLY impressed. I'll probably never shop in the "seasonal" greenhouses in box-stores again, if I can help it. Can't wait to go back! read more
