I miss going to this shop. I still haven't found a shop I like as much as them down here in Portsmouth and it's been 7 years! I used to bring in my clunky old Volvo 240 ( I miss that old brick too) back when I went to Longwood and the people there did a great job, communicated well and were always honest with me. Very dissatisfied with the service received for my vehicle. Upon diagnosis of my car, it was suggested to replace the engine or rebuild it, so I decided to rebuild. After the work was complete, and during pick up, East Ends parts advisor notified me there was no rebuild of the engine, only after I asked about warranty on the engine, he stated only parts were replaced on the car. This was my first issue, they didn't do what I asked with my car. There was nothing that could be done because the work was already complete but I did voice my dissatisfaction. After further discussion, they advised of the exact warranty in parts that were replaced. I paid for the vehicle, took it home and only drove it around town, as it's not my main source of transportation. I finally put the car on the road, driving to Richmond and halfway there, the check engine light came on. I called East End and they asked me to bring the car in, which I did the same day. They diagnosed the cause and states it's unrelated to the original repair. The parts advisor indicated the only thing they did was change the gasket on the part and put it back on the engine head. I asked several questions and also asked how was it unrelated if they changed the gasket and why didn't they didn't replace the part. It seemed to me to be a complete oversight. East End tried to charge me an additional substantial amount to replace the part on top of the the amount I already paid them to service the vehicle in the beginning. This didn't sit well with me. After speaking with a parts advisor elsewhere, I was advised that the part should've been replaced with the original repair. He further stated that if the gasket was replaced on the part, the entire part should've been replaced, not just the gasket. I called and spoke with the East End advisor and the owner and neither one attempted to help resolve this issue. They kept stating it was unrelated to the original repair and said they didn't break the part. Sadly, I expected this response. I do not recommend East End to anyone and If I could give no stars I would. This experience has been negative, especially since this is the first time I've done business with them. I try to support smaller businesses within the community but with this level of service, I think I'll stick with the larger companies/corporations where people are held accountable for their service and actions. read more

My tire pressure light came on while I was over a hundred miles from home. My husband called Gary at East End and Gary said to stop by. They were friendly at the store and told me to take my car across the street where a nice guy checked my tires and told me the tires were overinflated. It had been very cold, then warm and that's what caused it. They didn't charge me or try to drum up business, they were professional. read more

I just moved back to Virginia after five years in West Virginia. Every year I go in to get my cars inspected and the one needs new windshield wipers (it is a garaged car?!) and a fuel filter. every year, the other one needs new brake lights. When I went to East End, I was ready for a battle because I knew nothing was wrong with my cars. I even took pictures before going in to prove my lights all worked! The folks in there were a dream. Barbara is the office manager in the shop on the one side of the street and Sheila is in the smaller shop on the other side of the street. They are the same business but each shop keeps its own schedule so remember who you talk to when you call and that is which shop you visit. If you are going to wait for your car to be repaired, call Barbara because she has a leather couch! Sheila just has chairs. :) Turns out, nothing was wrong with my cars!! I got a fair inspection and the folks in there were funny and nice. I know where I'm headed back to in the future! read more

I rarely write a review. Just too busy to make the effort. Today is an exception. I'm not from Farmville but was passing through on my way to Norfolk when we had our alternator give out. It was a Friday afternoon and we were desperate to continue our trip. The folks at East End Motor treated us like family. They pulled 2 mechanics off of other jobs and we were back on the road within 2 hours. I cannot recommend this place with any greater confidence. I knew we were at the right place when I noticed a Sheriff's patrol car on a lift in one of the bays. The lady who our mechanic referred to as his boss (and I suspect was the owner) even gave us a ride downtown to Greenfront to pass the time while the work was being done. We got further assurance that East End was the right place when we mentioned our dilemma to a local who gave us an enthusiastic two thumbs up. Kudos to East End. read more

I understand I'm a girl BUT: If I bring you my car for a diagnostic and know enough to tell you it could be the cam shift, could be a burnt valve, could be a spark plug, it just has a hesitation on acceleration that I would like to know the cause of before deciding to drive it to Boston PLEASE DO NOT try to charge me $200 for a set of wires and plugs, break one of my spark plugs in the course of figuring it out, and NOT mention it on the phone so that I arrive to pick up a vehicle now running rough as s**t on only 5 cylinders and COMPLETELY incapable of making a trip to Boston (with my mechanic father hours from departing for his once a year vacation to FL) and try to tell me that half the plug was 'in the wire' when you took it off. A pure white ceramic plug that is un-fouled does not just break itself. Accidents happen and I'd have a lot more respect for your shop if you just said 'It broke when I tried to unscrew it'. Even better? Screw in a new one! For $5.95 you'd have had a customer for life. #eastendmotorFAIL #customerservicebasics read more
