I'm usually not one to leave reviews, but after this experience, I felt like I had to say something. I ordered the two-meat plate with pork ribs and brisket, and unfortunately, it was very disappointing from the start. I became concerned when I saw the meat being reheated on a flat-top skillet. The ribs were undercooked and had little to no flavor. The brisket came in small slices that were extremely oily and seemed like they were from the day before. The bark was lacking, and most of what I received was almost entirely fat. I'm not particularly picky when it comes to barbecue, but this was easily one of the worst experiences I've had! read more

Service needs some updating. For starters we sat there waiting to be noticed and welcomed for 10 minutes. Then our drinks come and we order. I ordered 3 sides of Mac and cheese. Sat and waited on our food to be ready for 30 minutes for them to finally say they have no Mac and cheese. And we got banned due to us canceling the whole order, because the only reason we went was because I wanted the Mac and cheese. And we still paid for our drinks. This place has surprisingly good BBQ, but at a price! I ordered the 2 meat plate which comes with two sides for $13.75. You have your choices of brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and chicken, however if you want chicken then it will cost extra (i.e. Dark Meat is additional $3.25). I find that the extra charge for chicken is kind of expensive because you already pay for "2 meats", but perhaps it requires more attention to cook. The total for my meal (w/ a cup of water) was $18.43 after tax and before tip. After ~16% tip, my end total was about $21.43. The food came out quickly. The pulled pork was very tender and not overly seasoned - much better pulled pork than the one I made myself! Wish I had more though. The dark meat chicken was good, however not the best I had. The meat wasn't as moist as I expected so I had to look for the BBQ sauce. The good thing is that they have a variety of BBQ sauce flavors such as fig, honey garlic, jalopeno maple, roasted mustard, and of course the original. I tried the fig, honey garlic, and original with both meats and didn't like either one but I appreciated the variety and creativity. Overall the meal was good and filling. I ordered the beans and mac n' cheese as my two sides. The beans were awesome and the mac n' cheese hit the spot! This place exceeded my expectation for Morgan City BBQ. read more

While staying in Amelia working after Hurricane Ida I visited East Gate BBQ several times. I tried many things in the menu all of which were absolutely delicious. The loaded fries with brisket and pulled pork were amazing. The pulled pork and brisket alone were great. Even when getting it to go the brisket still was very moist and tender. The ribs were some of the best I've had. The different homemade sauces they had were all great. I ordered meals for just myself and I also ordered meals for about 10 and no one ever had a complaint on the taste at all. The sides were all great as well. Service was always polite and prompt. Craving for BBQ was satisfied...somewhat. Not much variety in good old Morgan City, but had a craving for some bbq. This place is relatively new so I wanted to give them a try. I'm a big fan of bbq and have tried bbq from Texas to Tennessee. Inside the place looks like a typical dive like a mom and pop restaurant with a nice homely feel. On the menu, they state that their bbq is cooked and smoked on their wood burning pit. I wanted some ribs, but they ran out for the day so I decided to get the "You Ole Hog" which is a combination plate with 3 meats and 2 sides. Since there was no ribs, I went ahead and got the brisket, pulled pork, and sausage along a BIG cup of raspberry iced tea. The two sides I got was the potato salad and mac and cheese. I'll start off with the sides; the mac and cheese was just meh. I was expecting cheesy goodness, but it tasted like cheapo brand boxed mac and cheese. The potato salad was decent and is mustard based. Since this is a bbq place , I can forgive them for their sides since the meats are suppose to be the main attraction. So I tried out the pulled pork first and a lot of the pieces were kind of burnt, and the ones that wasn't tasted pretty good. It had a nice smokey flavor and not mushy like most pulled pork I've tried. Next stop: sausage town. The sausage is homemade and tasted very good. Tasted like a smoked Italian bbq sausage which was fine by me since I like Italian sausage. And then there was the brisket. I'm not a fan of chopped brisket so I'm glad they served sliced briskets instead. The briskets was tender and good, but I wished it was even more tender and a lil less chewy. Don't like eating a rubber tire you know. A lil more time on the pit would probably work wonders. In all I enjoyed it and the bbq served its' purpose and satisfied my bbq craving. I'll definitely be back to try their ribs and burgers. Oh yea they also have something called the Big Skinny which cost $50 on the menu. It's four 8 oz. black Angus burgers on a 24 inch loaf of French bread topped with brisket, pulled pork, cheddar, pepper jack, and American cheese, then finished with sauteed mushrooms and grilled onions. read more

Awarding four stars for the "fresh catch", in a BBQ joint, that looks like an old Burger King, turned Mexican cantina, doesn't feel quite right, but the food and service was that good! I walked in with full intentions of ordering BBQ, but when I saw the "special board" advertising the "fresh catch", black drum with two sides for $16.75, I changed course, and didn't look back. The fish was obviously very fresh, prepared and seasoned, perfectly. The mac & cheese (lives up to the hype) and cole slaw sides, completed my dinner trifecta. I've been here a couple times for lunch and left completely full both times. I've had the fried pickles, Texas toothpicks, the big sloppy, and the mini skinny. The fried pickles were, well, fried pickles. The toothpicks are thin onions and peppers fried like fries - pretty good. The big sloppy is pulled pork, brisket, sausage, and rib meat on a sandwich, and is deliciously meaty. The mini skinny is similar, but has burger, brisket, and pulled pork, also deliciously meaty. The carrots were amazing and the brisket was moist. I got the mustard sauce and couldn't get enough. A little tip, add a little mustard sauce to your coleslaw, you can thank me later for this idea. Horrible. Threw it in the trash. Got a 3 meat plate wasted 20.00. Ended up at the Chinese Buffet instead. The meat tasted of lighter fluid or under cooked charcoal brisket. No flavor on the chicken except dry and blackened skin. The sausage was boiled beyond flavor then skin burnt and the meat crumbled like ground hamburger. The Sauce tasted like vinegar and tomato paste and was not worthy of being called BBQ sauce. You can ring out the fries and have enough grease the fry the chicken. The only part that was somewhat ok was the canned baked beans and the pork rib which was 75% fat and bone. The bread was ok. Also you get no pickles or other standard garnishments. The fries that came as a side were just one salty mess. In my opinion all fries should be naked let the consumer decide to put salt or not. The other side was coleslaw which was okay.
