Felt like I was in a Nancy Meyers film. Probably one of the best beaches on the East Coast. The lifeguards have these stands that are much larger than the average lifeguard stand. The walk down the beach I took here was the most serene experience. A must-do in East Hampton.

Lovely beach with great facilities. We went on a cloudy day for a low key experience. Not too crowded, room to play football, and aside from a screaming child whose parents were following the "let them cry it out" philosophy, it was super relaxing. If you don't pack a picnic there are plenty of food options in the cafe. Wraps are around $8.95. A note on the parking- without a season pass there are limited amounts of daily passes available, as stated on their website. However, they say there's about 25. That parking lot holds at least 90 cars so if there aren't too many people with seasonal passes driving to the beach on any given weekend, you have a decent shot at getting a daily pass.

I won't say it is secluded but it is definitely a very quiet beach.. which I love. The parking situation is a little iffy but we lucked out for a nice afternoon at this beach. Walking along the water is always nice, but house watching here is a big plus. I am starting to see the appeal of the Hamptons, and the beach is one of them! I was surprised how high and strong the waves were.. not sure if it was because we visited in September or if the waves are always like this in NY - I've only ever been to the beaches down south. Either way, I did not feel comfortable going in the water and I am a strong swimmer.

East Hampton Main Beach has appeared on many "top 10 beaches" lists. The beach is spectacular. Beautiful sand with no rocks or pebbles, incredible mansions lining the beach behind the dunes, and great people watching! From May 15th to September 15th, you must have a parking pass or you WILL get ticketed. There is a daily lot, and for $25 you can park there on the weekdays. On the weekends, there are only 40 pay-spots available, so get there early! To avoid parking headaches, there is a free shuttle which can pick you up (at certain locations) and drop you off at the beach. Locations and schedule is at: http://thefreeride.com/east-hampton There is a pavilion with restrooms and snack counter. You can eat outdoors at the tables or on one of the benches. Its covered, so you can get out of the sun if you wish. They have outdoor showers for getting the sand off of you at the end of the day. You can change in the restrooms. Note that lifeguards are off duty and bathrooms close at 5pm. In the evenings, its a great place to bring wine, cheese, and a blanket. In the pay lot is a pretty pond. There's a walking trail that takes you behind the dunes and along side the pond. Its worth a quick walk if you've never seen it. Be CAREFUL of ticks, the Hamptons have a major tick problem. If you like beach walking, this is the place for you. If you go to the right, you can walk all the way down to Georgica Beach, which is where Georgica Pond is. Many famous people have mansions on the pond. Sometimes you can cross the small waterway connecting the ocean with the pond, sometimes not. If you go to the left from Main Beach, you can walk for miles and miles all the way to Montauk. It can get very crowded during the season. If you prefer privacy, East Hampton has other beaches (no lifeguard) for just getting some peace and quiet. Its amazing to think such an incredible beach exists just 2 hours from NYC.

Wonderful, clean beach! As others have mentioned, unless you are a resident or secured the highly coveted non-resident beach parking pass in advance, there is no way you're parking your car nearby for a reasonable price, let alone park it, period. However, it's a nice walk. If you're staying in the area, it's about 20 minutes from East Hampton village proper. The bathrooms are relatively clean for a beach so that's a plus. There is also a little beach food shack with burgers, lobster rolls, ice cream, etc. Dogs are allowed on the beach after 6pm over the summer :)

Delicious açaí bowl from the beach hut on Main Beach

The beach hut on Main Beach has a fantastic menu and serves great breakfast. The açaí bowl was loaded with fruit goodness, peanut butter and packs a punch!

This beach is extremely clean and beautiful. If you have a chance, you should definitely take a moment out of your schedule to visit the Hamptons! The houses nearby (on the beach front) are gorgeous. Note: You need a parking permit to park in the lots. The lifeguards are off duty by 5pm. I didn't like how the bathrooms were closed by 5pm as well. Other than that, the beach itself was clean and beautiful.

The only downside which is why it's not 5 stars for me, is if you are not a resident, you CANNOT PARK ON WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS!.

Lots of room in this parking lot as long as you have permission. The restrooms are clean and just fine. The concession stand has not been open when I have come here, but at least there is a comfort station that is always open!

For families visiting the beaches in Amagansett, I'd say it's preferable to Indian Mills which attracts a younger, more party-minded set. And for the twenty and thirty somethings, be aware that there's a disproportionate number of children under 10 years old roaming this beach, peeing in the ocean and generally underfoot. Parking is permit-only during the weekend, though on weekdays non-permit holders can pay a fee. The food stand offers an array of beach foods like fried clams, lobster rolls and chicken tenders in addition to the healthier chicken caesar wraps and salads. Our local host at a nearby hotel recommended the Beach Burger and I was definitely not disappointed - it's almost Shake Shack worthy! The sodas are also notably humongous - though with the summer sun beating down it's definitely not a gamble to super size to a large. Surfs up!

Overall: 5/5 LongHouse Illuminated Event: 1/5…read more (Photos below are only from the illumination event) Absolutely love the LongHouse! As a local I have visited this 16 acre garden almost every year. I have great memories of school field trips, participating in the student art competitions, taking my high school senior banquet photos here and more. There are countless contemporary sculptures including permanent items and items on loan. Almost every time you come back there is something new and wonderful to look at! (The Red Garden is my favorite). It's also fun to look for frogs and turtles in the pond! You'll have a great time just strolling through the garden (especially during the summer) or when attending an after hours event. Just plan accordingly, come soon to get parking otherwise you'll have to park on the street. Overall I usually have a fantastic experience. If you're visiting The Hamptons, definitely check out The LongHouse Reserve! Despite my love for the LongHouse, I do have the rate the LongHouse Illuminated experience a 1/5. I would not recommend this event. It's a pretty hefty price for not much to look at ($35 for Non-Members, $20.00 for members, $15.00 for students and FREE for Children under 12 years old). When you first walk in the Docents will check you in since you have to register online. They were incredibly kind and helpful. After that the shop and restrooms are to your left. (I bought a cute beanie!) From there I started walking on the path and wrote my wish on the Wish Tree. The paths were poorly lit and only a few sculptures were illuminated. There was a small hut with a tacky snowflake projection on it. I mildly regret paying $35 per person to attend an illumination event when only thing really illuminated was the path. However, the Fly's Eye Dome and the House were incredible! We weren't able to stray off the path so it was a quick 20 minute walk through the entire thing. I was considering walking through it again but I told myself there's nothing to look at, it'll be better to walk through town and look at the lights. They had snacks and complementary hot chocolate, wine, or cold cider at the pavilion (and the cups were only filled, literally, 1/3 of the way up). Can I get my time (and money) back lol
