All of the spaces used were up to date and had the latest technology. The library was large and was giving off very comfortable vibes. The classrooms were large and had spaces to charge your electronics. The cafeteria was large and had plenty of room for the students. There were two tournaments going on when I was there and there was enough space that neither tournament bothered the other. I highly recommend HPHS Highland Park High School!

Many years later, I still remember many of the lessons my teachers had taught me in math, science, choir, drivers ed, and other subjects. They were always a little tough on grading and pushed a bit harder for critical thinking and understanding rather than memorizing a subject. This came in use for college when many tests consisted of short answer and essay questions instead of simply reciting memorized facts. One of the best parts of going to school here was the robust activities program. From chess to newspaper to choir, there were always plenty of opportunities to enrich ones learning before, during, and after the school day. This was an invaluable way to learn new skills and make new friends while learning from highly qualified mentors. Palatine High School is a great high school that really prepares students well for success later in life.

My first kid had trouble with reading and was tripped up in understanding word problems. We tried everything. We tried the school, we tried disciplining, begging, and bribing our kid to somehow get up to grade level. Not much luck. We tried private tutors. Ok, small success there but not enough. Plus, with private tutors - they are like unlicensed cabs. You don't really know who you're dealing with; I did not run a background check and I doubt many parents would do so. Then, OK, we tried HLC. Great tutors, great content, helpful staff. We saw a difference in short order. Scores improved and - to our shock - my child actually enjoyed being there. Long story short, I sent my second child to Huntington in Grayslake also. Again, good results. I very much recommend Huntington Learning Center. Despite being a nationwide company, they have a "local" feel that, I can tell, really responds to community demand as well as parent concerns. They are also surprisingly affordable and flexible with payment schedule. The one downside I will admit to - they aren't open Friday afternoons and there aren't enough closed doors/offices to control noise. It is one big open space. But, overall, HLC grayslake is very much worth it. PS. my kids introduced me to memes. So here's one!

We took out a loan for our daughter's tutoring to have them go to Huntington in Grayslake. I took…read moremy daughters their because my friend recommended them, I regret not doing more research. Huntington has their own curriculum and does not match your kids school curriculum. Plus they ask for the school information and don't bother reaching out to them. They finally reached out when I told them I was not the middle person and they should be doing their job. Now I have a loan that I'm still paying for nothing. The test my daughters took at school showed no progress. the response I received is they are not done with their program. So pretty much I continue to pay with no guarantees. There school testing showed there was no progress. I told them that one of my child may have a learning disability and was told they don't specialize in that. If anything they should have offered to refund or try to negotiate something. I tried to get refunded or at least partially refunded and that turned out a no! We will not have our daughters attending there any more. I am very disappointed and would not suggest it to others. Save your money reach out to the school and ask for assistance. Huntington does not care, they just want to get paid. big sign if they are not will to guarantee, it should tell you a lot!

New Connections - Palatine (Parent of a Currently Enrolled Student)…read moreMy child has been enrolled at NCA Palatine since 2020, and the school has truly been a game changer. Before coming to NCA, my child attended two of the top public school SPED programs in the area -- from push-in to pull-out services, and even self-contained classrooms. Unfortunately, not all students can thrive in their home school environment due to challenges like integration with the general education population, the level of support needed, and the availability of specialized staff. After doing extensive research on outplacement options, I chose NCA Palatine. Like any major transition, the adjustment took time. I questioned myself, the district, and even the NCA staff on more than one occasion. But every time, I received reassurance, thoughtful feedback, and clear action steps that led to real, meaningful improvements. Success at this school truly depends on collaboration between all parties involved, and the staff here genuinely understands that. They actively seek family input and value parent perspectives. Class sizes are small -- typically no more than 10 students -- with one teacher and two program assistants. Beyond the classroom, there's a strong team of support professionals, including multiple therapists, behavior specialists (RIS), and an outstanding administrative team. Without a doubt, this school has had the most significant impact on my child's education and development.
