I have graduated from Warren Township High School, and I'd like to share my experience. Quick thing…read moreto know is that the school is divided into two campuses--OP for underclasses and Almond for upperclassmen. Before I get into sharing in depth experiences, I would like to share a quick thoughts. The school employes physical education teachers who are inconsiderate of medical problems and limits. I had this one teacher this year --Mr. McNamara. McNamara would install toxic expectations--grading us on the pacer test? 30 laps for the girls, 40 for the boys? Why should students risk fainting for a grade? If you did not reach the requirement, points were deducted from your grade. You might think, "oh it's just one day," well on weekly cardio days, if you did not set your treadmill to a minimum speed or increase your elevation to a set amount, your points were deducted, which over a semester adds up. McNamara also prohibited students from using the bathroom during class, claiming that if you drove to Libertyville, you would not stop to use the bathroom. Like what? If I had to use the bathroom, I would be stopping? Also, McNamara attempted to disobey school policy but not allowing me to make up physical education days--he claimed I couldn't because I "choose" not to participate. Also, Ms. Turano--another gym teacher is also highly unprofessional. She would intentionally start drama with students and deduct points for asking questions related to the in-class activity. The school allocates their time, resources, and recognition way too much towards sports. Students in sports get send offs in the hallway, but academic clubs like science olympiad, scholastic bowl, AVANZA Chicano Bowl, and FBLA don't. You might think; "those clubs are not a sport," but those clubs demand hard work and hours of preparation. Also, the school utilizes AI, but they punish students for using it? Once had a Spanish teacher teach us about the environment and nature and used AI images in her presentation--very hypocritical. She was openly telling us she used AI. When I called her out for it, she called me annoying in front of the whole class. Now, I'd like to say that the school administration, deans, and workers from student services did not prioritize student needs and lacked the skills to engage and listen to students. One time here, I was falsely accused of academic dishonesty--canvas logs allegedly showed me accessing questions beforehand and proceeding to complete the test ahead of the allocated time. While it was true that I accidentally entered the test, upon seeing this, the canvas tab was immediately closed out off and no questions were ever seen. The dean stated that the logs showed the test was open for ten minutes--however, the way canvas works is that once you open something a timer starts, which is why when I finished my test in class the timer showed 50 minutes when I took around 15 minutes. I revealed this during the conference I had, except no one was willing to listen--they prioritized the reputation of the first year teacher-- Mr. Greenberg, Business Law Teacher who filed an academic dishonesty report against me. Now, the school administration and board were incompetent. They failed to plan accordingly for harsh, winter temperatures and road conditions. They claimed there is a set number of days that classes were required to be held--per the state requirement. Now, my question is, is the school administration aware that e-learning is an option which priorities the safety of student and staff and adheres to the state requirement? During the 2025-2026 year, dozens of members of the student body reached out to the district superintendent with concerns, but their concerns were dismissed, diminishing student voice. During the winter, one of my friends, who drove to school, also got into a crash due to ice. The school also failed to deliver adequate consequences for disruptive students. During one of my classes, a student started a verbal altercation with me that resulted in the teacher calling security. I was later told that me and the fellow student would be attending a meeting to clarify the situation and have the chance to say remarks. However, this never occurred. Some teachers that I personally had were horrible--Mr. Longo, who failed to answer my questions and told me to figure it out myself. He was the one who believed his "independent learning style" worked on everyone. Ms. Delzotti and Ms. Vranek--who were downright disrespectful towards me and my friends and were biased in their NHS decisions. Ms. Fischetti--who yelled about eugenics at seven in the morning. One last thing, special shoutout to Mr. Bruno and Mr. Zaban, who are actually best friends. They deserve the world and a bonus. Both were patient, knowledgeable, actually cared about their students and would ask about their day and were overall very happy and passionate to be teaching.

Mrs. Anna Vitale did not teach a full curriculum and ignored countless necessary and important…read moreparts of information. Many areas that are normally required to learn were left out and gone unacknowledged. With the prior knowledge and understanding I already had while I was taking one of her classes, I became very surprised, in a negative way, when so much crucial material was not addressed. I'm very unsatisfied with the incredibly light, tip-of-the-iceberg, scratching-the-surface course of study that was supposedly "taught." Very mediocre job and as an Honors class, the students deserve more in depth learning. The units listed on the syllabus were definitely not covered in full detail. Below minimum. I was so excited to re-learn certain things again, but to my dismay, they were either very watered down, or just skipped over. She specifically said "we are not going to do a whole unit on World War I." The utter audacity to deprive her students, ones she doesn't even deserve, of information regarding the essential history of our world is sickening.

The school is great if your child can be a good little soldier and fit inside the school's tiny box…read morementality. My child attended there a few years but it became apparent that the school was woefully lacking in it's willingness and capability to meet my child where he was concerning learning styles and assignments. Even after a few meetings with teachers and school administration, I thought we were all on the same page. They did some things to try to accommodate his needs, but the school did not follow through with the plan we agreed upon. They recently informed us he was no longer welcome to attend WCA just a few days before school started. Imagine our stress to come up with an education plan with such short notice. If this was their intent at the end of the previous school year, we should have been informed then, not at the last minute​ - completely unprofessional on their part. I suppose though it is their prerogative to do so since they are private with closed enrollment - still an unclassy move in my opinion. One winter there was a fire alarm that went off. My child was in the after school care trailer when it happened. They rushed all of the kids outside without coats when it was bitter cold. Thankfully I was arriving when that happened and was able to get my son into my car which was warm and dry. I made a very constructive suggestion to the school on how to handle a future event like this so kids wouldn't be without a coat. Suggestion was ignored. My child is now in public school where there are definitely more resources available to him. Makes me question why we wasted all of that money on sub-par education and sub-par professionalism. I would not recommend this school as it is under-equipped, has mediocre facilities and resources and is out of touch with current educational styles. You are better off in a public school where resources are far superior to WCA. They proclaim a message of hope. However, there is no hope for your child if (s)he doesn't fit exactly into the school's less than flexible approach.

As a Westlake Alumni, there's a lot I can say about Westlake! It has it's flaws, the school is not…read moreperfect-but what school is? Many people criticize the fact that there are not as many resources and opportunities that public schools offer. However, every year they add more opportunities, more classes, and improve in every way they can. Most importantly, you get a Christ centered education. It is more important to go into college having a strong Christian background and a faith of your own than enter with 10 college credits. They left me with a strong foundation in the gospel, wisdom, and I learned so many practical life things from the Christ-centeredness that they so strongly focus on. It doesn't matter if you don't have AP this or that. Westlake is a school that helps your child be spiritually strong. As a little bonus, basically anyone can play on sports teams. My friend was a 5'2" basketball starter, I played volleyball for 4 years, and every sports team is a way to grow in friendships, physical strength, and in your faith.

They instead blamed and punished me and then told my mom they had 'taken care of the issue'. The boy, by the way, was given a slap on the wrist because he was friends with a certain staff member. Apparently knowing the right people will get you out of most anything at LHS, even assault. The sex-ed there when I was a freshman was a JOKE. It was shame-based and muddled with misinformation, we didn't even learn about birth control or condoms. The administration also paid no regard to talking about sexual assault, it wasn't even mentioned at the mandatory pre-prom assembly. Although they did make improvements about addressing mental health my senior year, after many protests by staff and parents. The safety at LHS needs to improve drastically. I did not feel safe my entire 4 years at that school. It took forever for the administration to acknowledge an order of protection I had given to them. I also felt extremely over sexualized by the staff. I would always be leered at by the older security guards for some 'dress code' violation. It was always implied that some horny boy getting distracted by your outfit was more important then you getting an education. The food also sucks and nothing healthy or allergen conscious is ever served. The absence policy is ridiculous, you only get 10 per semester and after that you have to have a doctors note or you're truant. On a positive note, most of the teachers are great and the art department is awesome, although it lacks funding (it all goes to athletics). Also the staff in the Q-Z LST are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. Overall, send your kid somewhere else.

General Details I am currently attending this school in…read more2024. The teachers are passionate about your education and the majority of the counselors are trustworthy. The school however does have a bit of a workload, ESPECIALLY for Honors/AP classes. The school food is much better than middle school or elementary school but definitely still has its faults. As long as you aren't absent for anything crucial, pay attention, and ASK FOR HELP when you need it, you will understand your courses. AP Human Geography is an especially tough course because of its workload and the fact that your tests and FRQs are definitely challenging. But there isn't anything to seriously stress over. Student Life 90% of the students are chilled and just want to go about their life, so you won't have to worry about fights or conflicts unless they're clearly being instigated. Vending machines have quality food and sometimes you can even get two products when only paying for one. Navigation around the school also isn't bad at all, the elevators are handicap-only access but you have 5 minute passing periods and stairwells all not too far from each other. I will be honest though that there is an issue with students and vaping, but it is not widespread and it will not be forced on you. The #1 goal of the staff at Lakes is to make YOU feel like you belong and can be on the path to the career you want. There are after school events and clubs for everyone's tastes. There are also emails sent out every Monday for your missing assignments to you and your parents and emails of your grades on every Thursday to the same people. There are also plenty of original staff members still here or staff you'll see mentioned in other reviews, such as Mr. Rowells and Mr. Blevins. These teachers are absolutely top tier. If you're looking into anything that has to do with theater/theatre, this school has one of the most advanced set building thinga ma jiggers out of high schools in the state, plus the teacher ( Mr. Esquivel ) is a great person that is especially easy to get along with.
