East Park has 10 acres, and was founded in 1916. It has a playground, a community center, two baseball fields, and a swimming pool. Historically, this site was a closeknit neighborhood. In fact, in 1862, at the home of then Nashville Mayor Cheatham, this is where the surrender of the city of Nashville took place. Fifty years later, that home was destroyed in the East Nashville fire of March 1916- the worst disaster in Nashville history at that time. It destroyed 648 homes, churches and schools. At a community open forum, the citizens of the neighborhood voted to establish a public park. The Nashville Parks Board purchased the land for $48K. It originally had a bandstand, but the bandstand was removed in 1956 to create a community center. Today, this park is beautiful. It is the home to the Hot Chicken Festival and the East Nashville Beer Fest. The renovated community center has a gym for $3 per session, and bike rentals. Because it sits against the Warner Arts Magnet Elementary School, we found several small art murals around the playgrounds. The homes in the neighborhood surrounding the parks are 100+ years old. This Edgehill neighborhood park is very charming.

This park is probably one of the smaller parks in the metro Nashville area. Basically just consists of two ballfields and seven open area for games. The park is pretty well-maintained and it will host a beer festival yearly. I do enjoy taking the pups to this location during our walks and letting them check out the ballfields. The park is right across the street from the turnip truckAnd some really cool houses on Russell Street.

East park is one of the best reasons for living in East Nashville. As a cheap frugal person, I like having fun and staying fit for a low cost. For $3 you can work out in the gym, if you buy a punch card for 10 visits, its only $20, month long pass for the gym $30. Can not beat that price. Bikes! Free Bikes. If you have an ID you can use a bike for up to 4 hours. I took a ride around the hood and all the way to down town. I had a blast! There is a jungle gym for kids to use, a pool (with limited hours) and classes again from $3-$5 per class. If every city in America had a great community gym/park/rental bikes like this and people actually knew about it and used them we probably wouldn't be the fattest country in the world. Get Fit for Cheap! Love East Park.

Even if you haven't gotten the chance to check out East Park Community Center, the park itself is a great area to take a walk or play a little catch with some friends. It isn't huge, but it's located in a safe spot near churches, apartments and a school, where you can feel safe walking your dog or just enjoying a few minutes to yourself. There are two baseball fields in East Park, and though they're sometimes occupied by Little Leaguers, the park typically isn't very busy.

We always enter from the "access trail" side. It is a smaller parking lot but we like coming in from this side. Depending on what time you get there, you may have a slight wait time to park but it is usually pretty quick and efficient. We usually arrive before 8:30am and have had no problem finding a spot. There are I believe at least 2 handicap spots at this entrance. They also have bathrooms available that are always clean and kept up. At the main entrance, entering from (otter creek). There is a welcome center with information and a small gift shop. Before bringing a stroller we would always go on the trail through the park woods but now with our baby and taking a stroller we take the paved path which was just redone and is SO nice!!! Strollers and bikes are not permitted on the dirt path so keep that in mind. There is so much beauty to look at while enjoying a nice peaceful walk. Eagles, owls, deer, frogs, turtles, birds, and more creatures to look at all while visiting Radnor. It is a staple as a local to get outdoors and into fresh air. Great place to take kids or any family that is visiting or even a great place to go on a nice solo long walk.

This parking lot is smaller, but we were surprised to find a spot easily. When we left around 10:45, there was a line of about 6 cars waiting, though cars seemed to move through fairly quickly. There is a nice bathroom at the top of the parking lot. From this entrance, you can also access the trail along the lake, though strollers and dogs are not allowed on that trail. We chose the lower paved trail instead (part of the mulch trail loop). It's wide -- almost road-sized -- and newly paved the entire way. It took about 15 minutes to reach the lake, and there's plenty more paved trail beyond that. We saw frogs, ducks, turtles, deer, an owl, and even a bald eagle. My kids stayed engaged the whole time. The trail was flat and easy for stroller pushing, and my older kids rode scooters without any issues. There were lots of families, dogs, and walkers out, but it never felt overcrowded. Overall, this is a great near-the-city option for getting young kids into nature without dealing with steep terrain. The other entrance off Granny White has the visitor center and a bit more parking.

If you need a tee time, sorry, I might already be there. I've made friends, ran races, had full character development arcs, and I see the same deer so often that we're basically on a "head nod" basis. I've named them. They know my schedule. I have been making my way to all the Metro parks and Shelby Park sits high on my list right now, and for good reason! The park is well equipped with all the park staples and even a few specialty areas. I come here for the trails, as I love wandering around the park, through the woods, by the golf course and around the water. Just something about it all that makes the walks a bit more enjoyable. In addition to the trails the park offers the classic park offerings such as playgrounds, gazebos and sporting fields. The park is well kept and clean. All parks are a bit worn and dated, but it is not enough to detract from the park itself. Nashville does a good job keeping the parks in good working order, as well as clean. Overall, I am a fan of Shelby Park!

The park is a long open area that stretches downhill from the Capitol and provides a nice break from the buildings and traffic of downtown Nashville. There is parking along the sides of the park, although there was some construction taking place in parts of the area during our visit. We parked near the World War II Memorial, which I thought was very well done and a fitting tribute to those who served. From there, we walked through some of the large grassy areas and looked at the different memorials and features throughout the park. One thing I would strongly recommend is walking all the way to the lower end of the park and turning around to look back toward the Tennessee State Capitol. From there you get a very nice view looking up the hill toward the Capitol building with the park stretching out in front of you. In my opinion, it was one of the best reasons to stop and walk around rather than simply viewing the park from the car. There is plenty of open grassy space, and the various memorials give you several things to see as you walk through the area. Overall, this was a very nice unexpected stop while we were driving through Nashville. If you are visiting the Tennessee State Capitol or are already in the downtown area, I would definitely recommend taking some extra time to walk through the park, see the memorials, and especially enjoy the view from the bottom looking back toward the Capitol. Enjoy!

Expect people with dogs, on bikes, skates, you name it, on the trail. It's pretty popular! If you want to ensure you remain in the greenway trail watch out for the green stumps. the "green stumps" are a well-known marker along the Richland Creek Greenway in Nashville. They're part of a trail maintenance/landscape feature: green-painted wooden posts (stumps) along the path used as visual markers to help walkers and bikers stay on the trail, especially near forks or trailheads The trail actually features a loop around McCabe Park/Golf Course and sections following the creek and old railroad tracks, connecting Sylvan Park to shopping areas and offering history like Dutchman's Curve. Parking available at the McCabe Trailhead near the golf course clubhouse. It's total 4.1 miles.
