Nice and renovated park and thank you to the Rotary Club for the donations also! The playground is new and safe and lots of fun for the kids with a zip line, swings, see saws, jungle gym, pogo stick like stuff, and so much more. The pavilion is shaded with recycling and trash bins so you can eat without the blaring sun. Also bathrooms and volleyball net on grass. Plenty of parking. All around a great place for the family.

I dropped in hoping to find some civil war era stacked stone walls. They are all over Granny White Pike but I didn't want to stop in the road. I didn't stick around too long. This is really a crappy review of the park. I will try again. Granny White Park looks like a sports park, it is very clean and well kept. It look safe too. It is in a nice neighborhood. I did end up stopping along the highway for my photos. And I did not get run over.

We went out and visited Granny White Park, which is adjacent to the Davidson County/Williamson County line, in neighboring Brentwood. You know what it's like when you go to your wealthy friend's house in middle school, and you can't stop marveling over dumb stuff, like an ice maker in the fridge? That's what this park is like. It's got those Brentwood tax dollars. The park itself is 32 acres, has baseball fields, a volleyball field, tennis courts, a pavilion, a large playground, and walking trails a little over a mile. The property itself was the home of John Beverly Gooch, a major league baseball player, in the 1930s. It was the home to the Tennessee Artificial Breeders Association, inseminating dairy cattle, in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. The property was purchased by the state in the 1980s for $500,000, and the city of Brentwood spent over $2.2 million to develop the park. The finished park was officially opened on Earth Day in 1990, presided over by future vice President Al Gore. Go see this park; it's a beautiful one and absolutely well worth the visit.

    Eclipse 2017 totality!

We had a great picnic here as we came to experience the amazing total eclipse! 100's of other people had the same idea but there was plenty of room for all of us! One group was cranking Eclipse from Pink Floyd! Another group had custom tin foil hats of all shapes and sizes! We had some amazing homemade veggie sandwiches, two-year aged cheddar cheese from Ireland, salty crunchy chips, and a beautiful day! As totality approached, it quickly cooled and the street lights in the parking lot all came on. The crowd started cheering and the insects and birds started singing their nighttime anthems. Then, BAM! TOTALITY! AMAZING! I'm so glad we got to experience it! You only live once and totality is an experience not to be missed!

There is a lot to like about this large park and it's one of my favorites. I'll break it down by…read morethe primary features. Trails: this is the primary reason I go to Crockett Park. I sometimes walk but mostly bike on the trails with a little one. They are relatively flat and because they are so long, they are rarely crowded. The trail users vary in age and there are plenty of blind curves, so it's not a place to go for fast biking. The scenery is varied and the majority of the trails are shaded. As a bonus, there are lots of places you can dip your feet in the Little Harpeth River. You can bike from Smith Park to the south to Tower Park north of Concord Road. The trails also connect to various neighborhoods, the Brentwood Library, and the Brentwood YMCA. Five stars. Playgrounds: there are several playground at Crockett Park/River Park. The main one near Woodland Middle School between baseball fields. It's large with a divided small kids and big kids section. Kids love it, and there are plenty of benches and tables for parents to sit or for a lunch break. Five stars. Frisbee golf course: 18 holes and, unlike many in the area, clear signage. Some holes are similar and a few are pretty short, but overall good course for a quick game. Four stars. Restrooms: these are all over the park. Some are closed part of the year, but for the most part they are open and reasonably clean for public restrooms. Four stars. Parking: You can park more places than I can count off the top of my head to start your walk, jog, bike ride or attend a sporting event. Amphitheatre: The Eddy Arnold Amphitheatre is great for summer concerts, of which there are many every year. Sports fields: I don't use them at this time, but they are very well maintained and there are a lot of football, soccer, and baseball fields. Parking: You can park more places than I can count off the top of my head to start your walk, jog, or bike ride. This is handy for days when the fields are crowded for soccer and/or football games, because you can avoid the traffic. Most lots are adjacent to a trail. Check it out for one or more of these features when you get a chance.

This parking lot is smaller, but we were surprised to find a spot easily. When we left around 10:45, there was a line of about 6 cars waiting, though cars seemed to move through fairly quickly. There is a nice bathroom at the top of the parking lot. From this entrance, you can also access the trail along the lake, though strollers and dogs are not allowed on that trail. We chose the lower paved trail instead (part of the mulch trail loop). It's wide -- almost road-sized -- and newly paved the entire way. It took about 15 minutes to reach the lake, and there's plenty more paved trail beyond that. We saw frogs, ducks, turtles, deer, an owl, and even a bald eagle. My kids stayed engaged the whole time. The trail was flat and easy for stroller pushing, and my older kids rode scooters without any issues. There were lots of families, dogs, and walkers out, but it never felt overcrowded. Overall, this is a great near-the-city option for getting young kids into nature without dealing with steep terrain. The other entrance off Granny White has the visitor center and a bit more parking.

There is truly nothing like being out in nature, walking the trails, and taking in the wildlife and beautiful scenery. I've seen people enjoying leisurely walks, others getting in a serious workout by jogging, kids playing hopscotch, and some simply stopping to appreciate the beauty of it all. The atmosphere is so peaceful that I've even sat in my car in the middle of the day and read a book, that's how relaxing this place is! The hills can be a bit challenging, but they're well worth it. Now, my legs may have had a different story on the topic (LOL)! Whether you're visiting alone or spending time with family and friends, there's something here for everyone. This is definitely a kid and dog friendly place too! I can only imagine how much more there is to explore within the park. I look forward to returning and discovering this rich urban forest. Pro Tips: *There is plenty of parking, both as you enter the park and further down near the nature center. Stop in there as well -- You can pick up directions and a map of the park to help plan your visit. There are also events that take place throughout the year. *Admission is free, for everyone to enjoy! *Try to go in the mornings or mid day. *Bring your camera and preserve your memories, it truly is a beautiful place. *As a safety precaution, always make sure to lock your car doors, you can never be too careful! As I continue to return, I will be sure to update you on my various experiences. So I hope you follow along! Muah!

The crab cakes were a 4/5 - my husband felt like there was a little too much filler. The remoulade was delicious - and it would have been good to have just a bit more. The lamb chops could have had the fat trimmed a bit pre and they were slightly overcooked but not enough to send back. Just a note to the kitchen. My 2 sides were loaded Brussels sprouts and they were cooked perfectly. I also had the cowboy corn sauce, which was delicious. My husband had a burger, which was a 5/5.
