In 1932, a plan of subdivision was developed called Port Dunbarton, with plans to build several hundred cottages. Fast forward a few more decades and the Province had created a Conservation Authority.The cottages were bought out or expropriated over several years. They created Petticoat Creek Park, and also the lands located here. As of 2020 only 5 homes remain within this park. The Rotary Club of Pickering received the naming rights in 2000. There have been many studies created and revised by the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority over the years, and the final one is a three phase plan to develop the park for public recreation. Phase 1 started in 2019 with planned parking lots; paved roads; picnic tables; waterfront path, and public access to the beach and spit. The unofficial boat launch was closed off. During 2017/2019 we experienced the 100 year high water flood levels of lake Ontario, that put this area of the spit underwater. Funding is being provided by all 3 levels of government. There are plans for public washrooms in the next phase, located above the flood plane. Our Association has been involved in this process since the 1980's. Fairport Beach Neighbourhood Association, Incorporated 1949, was part of this waterfront cottage community since the early 1900's. We sold our waterfront property to the Metropolitan Toronto Regional Conservation Authority in 1993, which at that time was the largest piece of privately held waterfront in Pickering. This allowed the extension of the waterfront trail, and the building of the bridge over Petticoat Creek, and the linking of conservation land to Frenchman's Bay. Sadly, our clubhouse had to be razed to make way for the public trail, but we replaced it with a beautiful butterfly garden, maintained by a private landscape company. This summer was an overwhelming success with the public from far and wide visiting our community and having access to the waterfront and amazing sandy beaches. I have had the privilege and honour to serve as President of FBNA since 1989, and with the support of the executive and members we have accomplished many projects in making our City a great place to live. There were quite a few people out and about so we all had the same idea. We've been to Humber Bay Park East many many times and don't know why we've never gone to Humber Bay Park West, which is less than five minutes from it. There are a couple parking lots and we found a spot in the one in the middle. We walked around a nearby point and then head southwest and ended up at the dog park. Then we turned around and headed to the beginning of the park, doubling back to the car. It's a nice park and we'll be back!

Humber Bay Park West is one of the best parks by the Lakeshore in Etobicoke. It is apt for a…read morepicnic, biking, walking and just being outdoors. Parking is easily available. There is also a washroom in the Humber Bay Park West. It is right next to the Butterfly park and Mimico cruising club. There is also a docking and launching launching station. One can choose from the picnic tables or the lounging chairs to spend time by the lake. It is clean and popular destination for all seasons.

I got on a bike for the first time in 8 or 9 years! (Yay me)…read more Needless to say i was a bit nervous to be biking down crazy Toronto streets right away, and I'd always wanted to explore the Leslie Street Spit. Off i went on my borrowed foldable bike! It was FANTASTIC! Such a nice wide road with a few fellow bicyclists, a few pedestrians, and very few cars (just 2 if a recall, maybe going to the marina). I could ride and ride at my own pace and enjoy the scenery. Honestly, everybody should come here! You you live in the Beaches area, it's easy to get here on your bike along the Lakeshore bike trail. If you don't live in the area and have to drive down, there is street parking along the southern most bit of Leslie St. p.s. no pets!

Here was a nice lakeside. We came here for the fresh air. When we arrived, it was almost the noon…read moretime. We had our brunch first by the lakeshore. Food brought from home, and saw a lot of people were really relaxed there. Some people liked to exercise or biking there. There was a lighthouse there, but it was pretty windy. My kid's hat almost flew out. We walked along the beach to another side of the park, kid's playground. It's not really big, but there were 2 parts, one for adults and one for kids. We planned to let my kid play with sands before, but the sands were a bit rough, I was a bit worried it might have my kid's feet sole cut. And we also needed to go for a long walk by the lakeshore. It's a nice place for the weekend with families there. Let's go next time again.

I went during the weekday so it wasn't too busy and was pretty quiet. Apparently it gets pretty busy on the weekends though. The park also has a BBQ area but it might be by permit only since I saw a sign posted of the parties who had reserved the area by permit. This spot would be perfect for a date/picnic, especially during the warm summer months. It makes a great gathering area for family friendly activities as well!

There are bus stops nearby but it may take a while (at least for me when I was too young to drive). Also, parking is pretty limited. Even though I don't have a dog, I found it cool that Jack Darling Park has an off leash dog park. I didn't realize it was one till I was volunteering at the tennis courts nearby years ago.

After parking, the washrooms are to your right, and there seems to be a small walking trail to the left. So, which way to go? We ended up going left, which led us nowhere after a few minutes, but no problem we just backtracked. To the RIGHT, keep walking, and you will see a small underpass, take that and keep walking .... to the waterfront, and a bike trail. We took a ton of photos, and I always feel like I'm on vacation when I'm next to the water! Suggestions: 1. Take and wear sunscreen and a hat 2. Bring a water bottle, there are no stores in the immediate area 3. Bring insect repellent, there are a lot of flies and mosquitoes 4. Wear comfortable shoes 5. Many local residents and visitors flock to this spot to relax and hang out by the water. There are some picnic tables near the playground and the water and therr is also a washroom facility that is maintained fairly well for your convenience. During the special holidays, it is also a great spot to watch the fireworks from.

The parking lot here isn't huge so it can get busy but if you are able to find parking in one of the nearby streets and stroll down, you are in for a real treat. There is always wild life to observe and pedestrian friendly path that will make you want to keep on walking! A bridge at the end of the parking lot will take you over to the Pickering side where the waterfront trail continues well into the Durham region with expansive waterview most of the way. Definitely a great place to visit for some quiet time!
