Still, it is quite a nice station, and it does dump you in the middle of a place that does feel like a country town, or at least one of the towns on the edge of the city. Still, it was actually quite a nice looking station, and there usually is a train sitting here waiting for you.

Mind you it is a pretty long hike from here into the city, but at least the station not only has some decent facilities, but looks pretty nice as well.

I wouldn't necessarily consider this to be a major station in Sydney, however quite a few trains…read moreseem to stop here, including the train that I caught from the Blue Mountains (I believe, or I could have simply changed at Blacktown). Mind you, like many of the stations is in Sydney, it is actually quite accessible, and as I mentioned, trains do stop here quite frequently, particularly ones that end up running express into the city. The other cool thing about this station, in particular, is that not all trains actually head into the city, some head off in multiple other directions.

The residential suburb of Seven Hills is located 35 km west of the Sydney central business…read moredistrict. Locally known as 'Sevo'. Prior to British settlement in the 1790s, this area was home to Aboriginal peoples - apparently the Warmuli and Toogagal clans of the Darug nation. First European discovery of the area was in 1988 or 1989. The first land grant in the colony of New South Wales was in the local "District of Toongabbee" to an ex- Marine soldier, John Redmond in May 1793. His 60-acre land grant was alongside a track which later became Station Road. Matthew Pearce was granted 160 acres in 1795. The name Seven Hills arose about 1800 because his farm was near the seventh hill along the road from Parramatta. How come nobody ever told me this? I always wondered where the heck the seven hills were, cause I never saw them in the neighborhood. We didn't have the internet back then and fed on rumours and old wives tales. Seven Hills station opened in 1860, the same year the train line was extended from Parramatta station to Blacktown Road station (now Blacktown station). It appears that regular train stops began here in 1869. Became a pretty big station, even though it is next to the bigger Blacktown station. I attended Grantham High School for two years, located in Seven Hills. I have been here too many times, but likely never again. You can't go back, or least least you shouldn't. Not to here.

Opened on February 24, 1964, this is just a cute little station next after Glenbrook going west up…read morethe mountain. Stairs only. It's on a sharp curve in the train line to help get up the steep Lapstone Hill. A platform on each side of the two tracks. In off-peak there is one train per hour each way on the Blue Mountains line. "Come on, come on, we're gonna miss the train." More often in peak travelling times. If you miss your train, you can kill some time by taking the short walk from Lapstone train station going east down to the Lapstone Lookout to see the Nepean River. I think it is 1.5 km out and back. You have an hour till the train, yah? Lapstone is 64 km west of Sydney. Population: 1,000. It's name Lapstone is derived from the smooth water-worn stones in the area. Glenbrook creek is here and water comes down the steep hill carrying river pebbles. These stones look like those used by cobblers in the olden days who would hold the stones between their legs to work the leather when making shoes. A stone in the lap is a lap stone, yah?

I have to admit that this station is awesome, though for the size of the station compared to the…read moresize of the town, it does feel somewhat out of proportion. However, as a railway station, it is actually pretty awesome, despite the fact that it really isn't the most accessible one. Oh, apparently there used to even be a bar here, if the signs are anything to go by, but I suspect that it has long since been closed and is now basically a heritage-listed regional station. However, it is still really worth to trip up here just to check it out.
