We used to stay here a lot. It used to be ok, a great base for exploring Leura and surrounds. Every…read moretime we go back it seems to get worse. The rooms are so dated and tired. We just stayed in 233 after requesting to move from 230 because I'm pretty sure the air con in that room was the same one Noah used on The Ark. The water pressure in the shower is abismal. The room just felt dirty, the bathroom needed an urgent update and our upgrade to a "spa room" really only afforded us a bathtub with some jets that boasted that nice orange mould which just screams "let me blast you with my bubbles" right? The breakfast is really average so having it included in the room price is really no benefit. There are so many lovely cafes in Leura, Blackheath and Katoomba that you're much better off saving your $15 and spending it elsewhere. If you're going to spend as little time as possible in the room then it will suffice. If you want a romantic getaway or are keen to relax in your room with a glass of wine after a long day then there are plenty of other much better options in the area.

The wine list was limited to surrounding areas. If you want the room to be a feature as part of your holiday then stay somewhere else but if it's just a place to sleep then it's better than some other places I have stayed.

We visited at the end of October, and, unfortunately, on a chilly, rainy, foggy day. Scenic World…read morewas a good starting location to see the Blue Mountains. We took the cable to the bottom of the canyon, walked the longer path of the boardwalk, then got on the Federal Pass to the Giant Staircase. The trail is well maintained. As it rained our whole time there, the trail had only a few puddles despite all the water. It's not very difficult until the staircase. We went up the staircase, and given the conditions, I'm very glad we were going that direction. The steps and railings can get slippery in the rain and some of the rock formed steps are not as level as I'd like them, so going up felt safer. We walked along the Prince Henry Cliff Walk to get to the Scenic World SkyTram to get back to the main building. Unfortunately, anything that was over 30 yards in front of us was a sea of fog. We still enjoyed the experience. For travel, we took the train from Sydney, walked to Scenic World from the train station and took the bus back to the train station. Very easy to figure out.

We did stop to look at the "Three Sisters Mountain " range before coming here. I found Scenic World to be a huge tourist trap. It's wall to wall people and the rides require long waits for mediocre rides. The rides are short and boring. Since I was so bored I went to the little restaurant outside and got a small latte and bag of chips. It was $16 AUD which seemed like another sign of a tourist trap. I would have rather spent more time at the zoo or taking a short hike. Definitely skip this if your time in Sydney is limited.

A number of obvious maintenance items were evident in our room. Things were addressed once I mentioned them, but really should have been noticed before. King size beds are lovely, although the sealed under blankets lead to sweating and sticking to the bed overnight. If a hotel promises services in their compendium (wines and reception hours, for example), then they should be abided to, or guests informed otherwise.

We had a kitchenette, and a separate living room where we were able to set up our daughter's travel crib. We were received with absolute kindness. Despite the weather being cold, there was plenty of warmth at Megalong.
