Wow...really...am I the first to review? If so let's begin ;-). This morning being a cold morning in March required me to warm up my vehicle and I exited the front door of my home not expecting any goodies as I returned. However, I noticed a box. A closer look and the box stated it was from East Side Produce. I thought awesome considering I personally noted the confirmation number I received when requesting the order which was placed using my LivingSocial voucher, however, I never received an email from East Side confirming that they received my order. **Note to East Side representatives especially if you are reading this...please send a confirmation email or email notification that the order was received and when to expect delivery. So as I grabbed the box I was excited about what could be inside. I opened my box and was very surprised. First, all of the colors stood out - oranges, greens, browns, reds, whites....it was so pretty that I had to take a picture. I have tried the oranges and lettuce and both were very fresh. I can't wait to try the pears and will be using the other items I received in creative meals. I would definitely recommend East Side to others based on this initial order. I had a Living Social coupon for East Side Produce, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with my box! As someone who doesn't make it to the store as much as I'd like to, the idea of having fresh fruit and veggies delivered to my door is enticing. The price was right (especially with the LS coupon), and I figured "why not?". The quality was fabulous. Everything I got was beautiful and delicious. I received: poblano peppers, swiss chard, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, plums, peaches, mushrooms and red potatoes. It was way more food than I thought it would be, but now that I know what to expect, in terms of quantity, I imagine I'll use the service again. I will say that they could use a bit of help with communication. That, and the fact that until I read Kevin's response to an earlier post, I wasn't totally sure that this produce didn't come from a grocery store. I would like to know a bit more about where the produce came from, especially considering how pristine everything was. If it's truly local, I'd like to know! If it's not truly local, that's fine (considering that not everything grows in this region), but I'd still like to know where it came from. Part of the allure of East Side Produce was the thought that I was supporting local farms, or at least family farms (as opposed to imported, factory farmed stuff). More information would be great, but overall this was well worth it. read more

I picked up a small box on Living Social to give produce delivery a try. I opened the box and (granted, it isn't really in prime growing season) I found a box full of produce that I could have walked the 1/2 mile to Safeway and bought. And, I probably would have gotten fresher produce at Safeway. I know that they work with several growers throughout the area and several "distributers", but I'm wondering if their "distributers" don't include them walking into Sam's or Costco and buying a ton of produce, then dividing it. Most of the produce still had stickers or PLU codes on their supermarket-issue twisty-ties... plus the produce was remarkably unblemished and perfect for "local" food. Usually, local food isn't waxed, doesn't have stickers on it, and has a few blemishes from growth. I think I'll stick to going to the supermarket until my garden comes in. read more
