It's closed during summer but we got in the week before they closed down. They open back up in the fall so add it to your list of places to go. It only takes an hour or two to walk through the site and read about the history that was here long before us. It's amazing to see how they found trade to be strong here. As they had the mounds built in alignment with the astrology and it's really amazing to see in person. It's an amazing spot and I hope to help more people find it!

Every day while I drive up and down Central Ave I look over and see this gem. Seeing this marvel always makes my heart happy. It still surprises me to see a mini castle in the middle of downtown Phoenix. A very cool structure that works mainly as an event center and cultural library. I have been here several times and I am due for another visit soon. I went here most recently for a St. Patty's Day themed or Irish themed magazine photo shoot, The small grounds are simply beautiful and the park behind it is also a nice area to take photos. Inside there is a library and event center. They sponsor movies, events, and I know some weddings have been performed here. You really need to stop by and check it out. The luck of the Irish says you will not be disapoointed. Then afterwards you can grab a pint at one of the local Breweries/pubs in downtown.

There is a beautiful park right behind it that you can walk around. There's even a cool porch swing out in the park right in front of the parking lot. They have a gorgeous courtyard with a little French bistro set up. The bathrooms are so clean. It's free to visit this cultural center and this museum. If you wanted to check out books, you would have to pay for a membership, but you can hang out there and read books while you're there. The ladies that run the place are just the kindest people in the world. They're so knowledgeable about Irish history and can tell you about your last name and your lineage. I love coming here. I can't say enough good things about it. It's truly a hidden gem in Phoenix.

There is a small entry fee but I don't mind helping to support the University's work I think it's $5 for seniors. Of course covid has changed everything so you need to check in on the Is hours with the website. There It's very accessible although it's not really a paved ADA wheelchair accessibility A beach wheelchair might do fine if someone was helping to push. It's a gravel trail so seniors that are mobile should have no problem. Families with children should have no problem. It's a little more than a quarter mile down the trail. They seem to be relying on the audio tour inside and outside though I believe it's posted on spotify. It actually makes me a little sad that they're not relying on volunteers or students as much anymore. It seems to be a trend and it's probably related to covid possibly, to modern Digital Culture rather than human interaction culture that I and my generation come from. I'm also sure like everyone else in the service industry it's urban industry they're finding it hard to get volunteers and employees. It reminds me of the self service lines in grocery stores and retail now, It's all about speed and efficiency rather than service. There was an archeological student from the University of Arizona, who was doing some kind of trail sweep who I naturally engaged in a conversation with, she had a wealth of information about the site and she enjoyed talking about it as well as some of the frustrations of trespasser's and worrying about artifact theft and vandalism. There was no one else around so we talked for 45 minutes. When I asked her about her future in archeology she felt that it was probably going to be in museum work cause that was the only place that you could possibly get a salary if you weren't teaching. I always enjoy listening and learning from bright young people about their passions. The rock art was produced by Archaic (before 150 CE,) Hohokam (1 - 1450 CE,) and Patayan (ca. 900-800 CE) cultures. It focuses on the rock art found a short way from the building on an outcropping of basalt boulders found along a quarter mile trail facing southeast. Unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to ask the student about differentiating from the different the different time periods of rockheart and asking her to show me some examples. I really recommend a visit especially for families and seniors of a certain age or for initial cultural markings experience. It's will also help you get oriented to the indigenous culture of the Phoenix area. The museum and interpretive centre discusses the site and its petroglyphs as well as tools and pottery associated with the site and Hohokam culture. Archaeology of the site includes features aside from the rock art which are described in the museum, but are not accessible to visitors. These include the remains of a pit house with middens and cooking areas, and the foundations of two masonry rooms top the outcropping where the majority of petroglyphs were found. It's heartening to see that this site helped to preserve an acreage of desert from encroaching development, the fragility of such sites will only increase with with increased tourism, and they do there best to manage it. A small number of rock art pieces were actually moved to their current location when the nearby dam was built. (All moved pieces are so identified.) The preserve is the result of a partnership by a number of organizations, including the Army Corps of Engineers, Maricopa Flood Control District and Arizona State University. The site is protected and operated by Arizona State University.

And boy, were we excited having discovered it. The museum and its property are very nondescript, and that is a shame. It seems to be an underrated museum which should get more exposure and traffic than it apparently does. As their mission states: "To instill understanding and respect for the indigenous cultures of the southwest." And they do it extremely well. Within the unique stone building and confines of the relatively moderate size museum space are an incredible array of objects, relics, Nik-Naks, gifts, paraphernalia, and artifacts to peruse and learn the while away. Kudos to the staff and volunteers that do an excellent job of teaching those who stop in about this incredible culture.

They also have a wide variety of other events and programs to support the community, like mobile art outreach and programs for impacted youth. The tour guide Joseph was so kind and full of energy. The video you watch when you get there is a very heart felt explanation of the passion to continue this community. They own 800 acres and the property is built on 20 acres, it was built between 1971-1975 for the main spaces that are shared. 45 people live there but could range to 80. They show how the products and structure are made. I had no clue about silk casts and loved the hands on understanding and history. They have concerts, events, gatherings. Etc at the amphitheater. Check out the website. The cafe is closed. You can stay as a hotel guest overnight. They offer apprenticeship also.

Clearly what the original architect had in mind many years ago never came to fruition as it really hasn't changed in years. Is appears to be a small artist community but we didn't see anything going on at the moment so couldn't tell if it id still active or they make everything south in Scottsdale at Cosanti. There is a gift shop where you can watch a brief video on the history and learn about their wind chime creations. Personally I've received many of the wind chimes over the last 20 years for housewarmings or Christmas gifts. Each is unique. The greeter in the gift shop was friendly and stated there is a tour available as well. We didn't have time for the tour but purchased a couple of small gifts. He suggested visiting the Scottsdale location as well which is called Cosanti. I had no idea it was located in Scott's well. Will check it out.

Tired always wondering if we'd have a sitter and what condition my daughter would come back in. Enter Bright Horizons. We had toured the Chandler facility when my daughter was only 4 or so months old. They didn't have openings. I called in after the whole debacle above and they luckily had an opening in the Infant room (daughter 11mo at this point). We immediately enrolled. I knew I liked the place but I didn't know how much. Here are some highlights. * They take pictures throughout the day of your little ones - super nice. * They have a running log of what your little one does all day - down to how much they eat - super nice. * They have a plan for developing your little one such as music days, art days, etc. - super nice. * They help your little one develop in areas they need development. For my daughter she needed help eating more solid foods and they've got her eating more solids than we have ever gotten her to (maybe it is peer pressure of other kids, I dunno) - super nice. * They always seem staffed and share kids that are transitioning from one room to another. * They will abide by your special requests such as dietary. They have a nice selection of foods for the little ones to meet your special requests or their special needs - super nice. In short, I feel very fortunate to have been able to enroll here. And on a side note - God Bless those gals in the Infant room. They take all the crying in stride and still smile.

Since we did the all-day pass for the littles, the two older kids and husband and me were include. All-in-all, it was $76 for admissions and 6 pairs of socks. We hung out for a few hours, went home for dinner, and then came back for a couple hours. After spending the entire day, we decided to convert to a monthly membership. The facility was so clean in the playgrounds, eating area, and bathrooms. The staff were pleasant and patient. The play areas were so much fun and large enough for adults to follow around the kids. My husband and I had a blast playing with the kids and were able to navigate the playground fully. With summer coming, we will be spending a lot of time here and will recommend to any others.
