I can't say enough about the products and particularly the service I received from the folks at East West Futons. Frame is incredible and the mattress is legitimately plush as hell. But the reason I would recommend this place is the people that work there actually seem to give a crap about their customers. East West Futons is a fantastic "little" shop with a big inventory located near Yorkdale Mall. My wife was finding our old mattress uncomfortable and was looking for a solid futon mattress. After a lot of humming and hawing we settled on the Soleil Eucalyptus Mattress at East West Futon. They didn't have it in stock and needed to get it made (to my understanding they're made in Quebec, shopping Canadian is nice!). We were promptly told that they didn't have it currently instock and if that wait was too long for us they offered a full refund or exchange. Justin, who was our point of contact fantastically maintained a rapid response time when we had questions on our options. We settled on the Regal Firm 10", the difference was speedily refunded to us. Honestly, after having dealt with a couple other mattress companies the speed of this company's responsiveness blew my mind. Within a week I went and picked up my mattress and it's been nothing but fantastic sleeps since! Thank you East West Futon for an amazing shopping experience and an amazing product. read more

I recently purchased the Comfort Natural Latex Mattress from East West Futons. I had bought a Boreal twin sized futon as a spare bed and thought the quality was good so I took a chance and ordered the mattress on line. The staff were friendly and helpful but this futon is hands down the worst matress I have ever slept on. I bought the 8" firm foam core futon which is supposed to be sold as a bed mattress for continual use.. I have slept on futons for years. This one was folded in half to make it convenient to take home in my trunk. However, I think this destroys the firmness of the mattress. I am a 105 lb female sleeping alone on this mattress and in 3 months there is a large hollow where my butt rests and a small hollow where my shoulders rest. They have reinforced all of the edges of the futon, so now the top where my pillow rests is actually up hill, putting my head on an angle while I sleep and I wake up with a sore neck. Don't let them try to convince you that this mattress is meant to be slept on regularly. It might work for the occasional guest who won't likely complain. read more

East West Futons is slightly confusing because: a) It will likely be mistaken for "The Futon Store" which is about 4 shops down from East West Futons b) It really does not even specialize in futons What East West Futons really does have is a nice assortment of furniture. A few futons, couches, chairs, nesting tables, coffee tables, mirrors, shelving, bookcases and area rugs. The inventory is modern and some of it appears to be sourced by local craftsmen/carpenters. When you need a couch that converts to a bed futons are the choice when you don't want to deal with the weight and bulk of a fold-a-bed couch. After checking out The Futon Store just a few doors east, EW Futons seemed to have a more interesting selection. One futon that jumped out was a metal framed one that had arm rests that clicked into several positions from flat to straight up. That way you could lift one side up slightly to simulate a pillow, or give the look of a day bed. The staff was friendly and very helpful too. read more

There seems to be only a few places in Toronto where you can get good quality futons, this store, next door and IKEA (but we didn't like any of the designs there). It's quite pricey, about $500 up for a good frame, mattress and cover. Cheaper and more versatile than a couch, but depends the reason you're buying a futon. We did contemplate one at Canadian Tire, but having a good quality, firm mattress was important to us. You can buy the futon here in pieces, and mix and match the frame, mattress firmness and covers (about $40-100 ranges). There's lots more selection here than in the other store. The prices are comparable (this store being a little cheaper) - but they have a longer warranty and a boxing day sale which got us a free cover ($50 value). There's something about the store that is much more appealing than the dingy old one next door. Bright lights, high ceilings and catchy tunes does make all the difference. They sell more than just futons here. There are cute animal ottomans (which I"ve only seen at the One of a Kind Show), tables, beds, art, buckwheat pillows etc. I actually got a great glass kitchen table here for my first apartment. Futons styles vary all over the place, and there is also a type where you can do a custom stained wood frame. If you're looking for something with a wooden frame, this is your best bet. Working with the owner, she was extremely helpful with deciding , and we bought one on the spot. We also saved the delivery charge as she helped us load it to the back of our car. Gave us twine (to tie) and extra instructions and nuts and bolts to put it all together. She was so helpful. Is it worth the value of money? If you want a good standing piece of furniture for the basement or guestroom or apartment you intend to keep, it's worth it. If you're planning on replacing it within a year, don't bother. read more

A few things that ranked our experience at East West Futons the best, and why we ultimately chose to buy our futon here. 1. Friendly staff or owners. If the two guys working the day we visited were not owners, the behaved as if they were. 2. In stock selection. Not only was our frame and mattress in stock, but there were plenty of covers and pillows ready to take away too. We ended up custom ordering our cover but there was a huge selection of fabric in stock as well. 3. Good price. We were visiting from Peterborough and the selection in town wasn't great and the price was a bit steep. We saved quite a bit even considering the gas to get down. 4. Nice store. The tunes and high ceilings and bright light from Bloor St. was a joy on a cold winter day. 5. Recommendation from my sister in law who bought at least one futon here. read more

What other places call Futons like Ikea and Walmart are not real Futons in my opinion. I'm in Calgary and the place that would actually manufacture a Futon for you, closed down last year, hence I was pleased that East West Futon would ship to me. When my Futon arrived , I was not disappointed. This Futon is constructed with layers of various grades of foam wrapped in cotton batting material which makes it firm and durable. The great thing about a futon is you can flip it now and then, giving you an un-indented surface to sleep on. This Futon was everything and more that I expected. read more

I needed something firmer to sleep on, for my back, and after much internet research, decided that a shikibuton (Japanese style futon) was the way to go. I live in New Brunswick (the header identifies me as in Beaver Dam WI because of VPN), so there are not a lot of local options outside of Sl**p C**ntry. I found East West online; their prices were better than anywhere else and delivery wasn't outrageous, so I ordered one, sight unseen. I have been sleeping better since I got it; my chronic back pain has been relieved; and it is just comfortable to lie on (or sit cross legged and watch TV). The quality is solid, and the service was exceptional. I am glad I took the chance, and avoided Big Mattress and a certain monopolistic shopping site. read more

I was happy with the futon and the price, and staff were consistently friendly and helpful. The only problem was East West's busyness -- after we'd agreed on a delivery date, they had to cancel it and reschedule (on fairly short notice!) to one week later. I'd never seen that before. Fortunately, that one-week wait was eventually reduced to four days. Not a big problem though - I'd still recommend you try them. We went to East West Futons and we're extremely happy with everything! Service was very helpful and knowledgeable. I loved how you can pick out your covers (there is a ton of fabrics to choose from), and you can pick the type of foam (we opted for the firm). The slight upgrades made our futon a little more than what you would pay for at The Brick, or Leon's, but it was worth it!! Even if you got the basic frame, basic foam, and basic cover... it's worth it!! Again... can't stress how great the service was. I decided it was finally time to get rid of my mediocre IKEA futon this spring (after multiple hints from my wife and her parents...) I looked online and found only a couple of good-looking futon places in the city, and luckily they are practically right beside each other! I ended up choosing East West because prices were the same (and usually slightly less) than the other store down the street, but most of all because the vibe and feel of the store was great. We had a great shopping experience here! The staff were friendly and helpful, even on a busy Saturday afternoon with several customers in the store. We ended up buying a Bristol hardwood frame with no arms which was recommended by the staff due to our space constraints. We felt that the foam piece/mattress was important too, so we did upgrade to a better quality. They have futon upgrades anywhere from $30-$200 I believe. We stayed in the middle of that range and have a super comfy mattress now. All in all, with adding a good fabric cover, a better mattress, and delivery, we spent just over $600, which I think is a steal for the quality and the use we will get out of it. I definitely recommend East West for futons, and also for any other condo/apartment furniture you need. We were looking through catalogues and they have some really retro, well-priced barstools which is next on our furniture list. I'm sure we'll be back there again soon! read more

Excellent service, I walked in nearer to the end of the day and the guy working there still took his time (didn't rush me out ) and explained everything - admitted it has been a lot of years since I bought last one so there have been some changes :) There was no pressure to buy but no disinterest to make the sale either - which seems so common these days if you're not the owner. About the only the good thing I can say about East West Futons is they are great at taking your money. My wife and I went into their store searching for a twin size mattress for our son's bed. We were assured that it would fit a childs bed frame, especially since my sons bed is a box style bed that doesn't require a box spring. We brought the twin mattress home and placed it on my son's bed and there is a 6.5 inch gap making his bed unsafe. "Just take it back", you say? The fine print on the back of their reciepts state, "no refunds or exchanges". Lesson learned $140.00 thrown out the window. better be extra sure before you buy a futon here. read more

I went to this store to buy a pillow. I stood there forever waiting for someone to help me. When I finally asked for help, they told me the pillows were on the beds, and that was it. The staff member made phone calls the whole time I was in the store, when I was the only customer. Note that these were expensive latex pillows, which I was slightly confused about. If I had gotten help, I know I would have shelled out $100 for a pillow right then. But, this place won't be getting my business. read more

East West Futon is a badly run business! They are like a big business trying to rip you off at every corner stuck in a small business store. We were trying to decide on a nice but overpriced futon. When the sales associate mentioned the 5 year warranty on the frame and 10 year warranty on the mattress, we decided to go for it for the peace of mind. But FYI to everyone, they are selling something that doesn't EXIST. Any business can push the warranty on an item when it doesn't even exist, in other words, LIE. When we had a issue with the dowels (those little pieces of wood that connect two wood panels), after a lot of going back and forth, they said that it was not covered. Even though on our receipt it says that everything is covered except for mold and compression. During the process, their customer service was absolutely horrible, rude, took forever, and their first reaction to any question is to LIE. And when you call them on the lie, they do not apologize, but are rude or lie more. And it's not just management, the sales associates lied for management too, and when you call them on the lie, they claim that they are just sales associates, but then why lie? Anyway, if you are thinking of buying a futon, I looked at a lot of places, and then decided to dish out the extra bucks for a nice futon at East West Futon, but basically it turns out they suck and should be taken to small claims court! But not worth it since it will take about 30 mins for me to fix the dowels or I can buy a new arm for $60. So all this effort by them to screw us on the warranty, losing us and everyone we know as customers, all to save themselves $60. Bravo! read more
