I came in on a groupon in January of 2015 for a consultation because i wanted to explore acupuncture. I wasn't particularly interested in the other services. I feel like the intake and treatment has been consistently very thorough, The availability of appointments has been great (2-3 days out i can usually get a good appointment still), the treatment rooms are warm, well decorated, with relaxing music, the Acupuncturists are very talented knowledgeable and intuitive, and the fact that the clinic has someone who can offer trigger point injections on top is just awesome. Ive used East West health both for maintenance and for treating painful trigger points and tension that are results of my lifestyle. The front desk ladies are always friendly and remember my name and have been incredibly helpful and easy to work with on payment options, plans, and getting insurance involved. It is hard to find an alternative health clinic that has such a wide range of services while maintaining ambience, professionalism, and affordability. Reading some of the other reviews on here, I have been offered some supplements and products before but never pressured, and the ones i've used have absolutely been helpful. I paid over $7000 for a health package from East West Health. "Steve" who no longer works there injected 1 unit in each into my arthritic knees. I was somewhat naive and anxious to cure my nearly bone on bone condition. No improvement even though I received follow up PRP injections also. I recall the vial which supposedly contained 2 units of Stem cells appeared small to me. Many times since then I regret not calling a halt to the injections to have Steve or his superior to verify exactly what a " unit " consisted of in volume or estimated stem cell count. Bait and Switch is how I felt when leaving here. I am searching for a new doctor after my moved away. Do not come here if you are liking for individual affordable care. The only thing they offer are 4, 6Or12 months packages that are in the thousands of dollars range. Treatments that I would have no interest in, supplements I don't have interest in, acupuncture sessions, etc. Stem cell treatment and more. You will paid for the consultation up front . And I should have known better when they have options to see 3 different types of care providers, acupuncturist or p.a. or... , unless you are looking for $6000. I had acupuncture here before Regan began to focus so much on supplements, supplements, and supplements (though he did prescribe them regularly and wasn't happy with me when I said that I didn't think they did me much good and would prefer to forgo them). He's one of the poorer acupuncturists I've had (I've been having acupuncture since 1992), but he was the best that was available in my neighborhood, so I actually did use his practice off and on for not quite three years. But he really had an appallingly bad bed- or table-side manner. I was on his table at the moment my mother died a thousand miles away; I was terribly ill as she was dying and needed to get well enough to fly home for the funeral I knew was coming. You'd think that would somehow convince him to be less of a cold fish, but no. When I saw him after the funeral and talked about how deeply I missed her and how bad I felt about how hard the end had been for her, he said, really cheerfully and without a hint of sympathy for what I'd lost, "A lot of women find their lives go much better after their mothers die, because their mothers are able to help them from the other side." Seriously. He said that. He said that to someone who had just buried her mother. His rates were NOT cheap, so to save a bit of money, I tended to buy a package of treatments ahead of time for a discount. In one of my last sessions with Regan, something went wrong; I had some sort of adverse reaction. I was face down on a table with needles in my back, and I could not move. I began shouting that I needed some help. AND NOTHING HAPPENED AND NO ONE CAME. There I was, shouting for help at the top of my lungs--and zip, zilch, nada. They told me later that the air-conditioning was too loud for them to hear me--but, gee, you know, maybe have one of the many members of staff at the front desk get up and poke their head in the back hall every few minutes and see if they hear anything? I was done with him at that point, but he had recently hired another acupuncturist, and I began seeing her. She was better. But she couldn't compensate for the overall lack of concern for patient well-being in the office. So I ceased treatment at the clinic altogether. Something just seemed broken in that clinic. I watched things get worse as Regan moved offices (he used to be downstairs from where he is now) and tried to fit more and more patients into more and more rooms, giving each one less and less of his time and attention. A natural healer he just ain't. A friend asked me about acupuncturists in Salt Lake City, so I looked Regan up. If the negative reviews are accurate and he's all about persuading people to buy supplements and really dubious treatments not approved by the FDA, well, it seems that money is more of a motivation than it should be for the person you entrust with your health. Read the fine print! I went in for a consultation and after a pretty hard sell signed up for a hefty $5000 course of treatments. Woke up in the morning and realized that I wasn't ready to spend that kind of money. Called and cancelled first thing. In signing the waivers etc. I missed that by signing there was a $700 non-refundable clause! Wish they had verbally pointed that out. Called the owner and he kept $500 of the $700. Seriously? I'm not sure why this place has such negative reviews. I've had nothing but positive experiences here and I've felt very well taken care of and all of my appointments/treatments have been handled and performed in a very professional yet comforting manner. I originally began going here after buying a Groupon and I never once felt like a second-rate customer/patient. I had my first appointment with Ryan and after a 20 min consultation about my conditions and issues, he assessed my pulse and tongue and gave me a diagnosis. I then received my first acupuncture treatment which was very relaxing and I'm a clean and comfortable room. I feel like my treatments are helping with my anxiety and stress levels and balancing my hormones. I have since gone back 4 more times after my original 2 with my Groupon and I will continue to come back. (The reason I left off one star is that I believe the bathroom needs to be assessed. Dirty laundry baskets could be hidden behind a curtain to keep the bathroom looking more spa-like, like the rest of the facility. Also, a rug or something similar should be placed in the hallway outside the treatment rooms. I came in here because I moved from Los Angeles to SLC and needed an alternative health center and not just standard western medicine protocols. I spent so much time today with the nurse practitioner, it was amazing. that rarely happens but she let me tell her my oral history for a long time and I truly needed to go through the details. she was so patient and listened and got it all. I think she went out of her way to be kind which matters. I will follow up with the Naturopath next week but so far I give them 5 stars, and the RNP is wonderful if anyone wants to meet with her they should. read more

The clinic offers a huge range of services-- I usually go to get treated for pain management or emotional support, but recently took a blood test through East West to try and determine some food allergies. I've been seeing Regan for years for knee pain, cramp pain, and overall "wellness". One on one time with him seems to be shortening up as time goes on, so be sure to ask about specific dietary/herbal remedies for issues... Wealth of knowledge there, if you can get to it. read more

This place is great. I started going there in April and they have already helped me a lot. I did the ALCAT food allergies test and I highly recommend it. Michelle has been treating me and she is awesome. She is very nice and very knowledgeable about a lot of things. I've previously been to other chiropractors and acupuncturists and while they did help me, Michelle has helped me even more. Although I do think following the food allergies diet has made a huge difference as well. They wanted to talk and explain my pain away but I just wanted acupuncture. The office manager was cold and not personable I waited nearly an hour to get a treatment that I had to demand! I was ready to get a refund and walk out then the PA could see I was angry and gave me over to a acupuncturist. I'm not going back. This clinic is too westernized for me. I'm looking to TLC, and relaxation. Do not go here if you want a smooth, professional, and fantastic treatment. Go to East West if you want to wait around and be disappointed. Beware of these people. They prey on older people. They'll take your money. I enrolled in their program for $5000. I was very healthy and just wanted to optimize the supplements that I was taking through testing and feedback. My most severe symptom was a runny nose. they gave me some Chinese herbs which set off diarrhea and vomiting. Dr. Lawrence said that other people got diarrhea from one of the herbs but it usually went away after a few days. Mine lasted a month, It also caused severe gastritis and vomiting. I went from a weight of 106 to 97.I'm, an avid skier but because of the herb-induced illness had to give up many days with my friends. I had to cancel many social engagements and did not have the energy to go to Physical therapy. No one at the "wellness" center had any solution to the problem. Finally I found my own solutions through research on the internet. I asked for a refund and they offered me $300. I'm in the process of negotiating with them. read more

I have a slipped disk and sciatica. The acupuncture they provide is great. They provide many other services in addition. Jessica is a great therapist with a calming demeanor. She is a great listener and follows up with you at your next appointment to see if you pain is being managed well. I left my first AND LAST visit to the clinic with what looked like a gumball bulging from the side of my neck where one of the acupuncture needles was inserted. When removing the needles Regan said, "Looks like we have a bleeder!" Since he did not qualify this statement I assumed 'a bleeder' was a small dot of blood from the insertion point of the needle (when removed) which is very common. He did not tell me that 'a bleeder' was referring to a 50 cent piece-sized, black and blue hematoma on my neck which has JUST started to fade after 13 days. I looked like I was either domestically beaten or was the recipient of the most disgusting hickey ever given. Yes, as with every treatment, whether derived from an Eastern OR Western philosophy, there are risks. However, in the 8 years I have received acupuncture I have NEVER had a reaction like this. The most upsetting part is I was told, "Oh...that's common it will go down by tomorrow." when I called the office 5 minutes after leaving the clinic. I then left a message a few days later to inform them I will not be returning due to having never gained any sort of trust with ANYONE in the clinic. No return call from anyone in the office. Yes...problems arise in medicine but how clinicians try to resolve those problems shows how they really care (or do not care) for their patients. read more

I am not a veteran to acupuncture, but I am open to it and it's healing benefits. The staff was friendly and the clinic appeared to be very clean. Maybe I am overreacting but I am concerned about the seemingly careless actions or lack of precautions of the acupuncturist. I went there and was surprised by what appeared to be a big disregard to individuals health. "Laura(?)" preceded to place the needles without washing her hands or prepping the skin surface with alcohol or any other antiseptic. I am not sure if you are supposed to prep the skin like they do before you get a shot or they draw your blood, but they are puncturing the skin and though the risk of infection is probably very low, I would have felt better if they would have taken precautions. As far as the lack of visible hand washing, I couldn't help but think "who knows who she touched before me". Same goes for when she removed the needles. She even wiped away the blood with a tissue and no gloves. In my opinion that was not very sanitary, but it was her choice. She then plugged in a massager, at this point I was praying the massager head and Chinese spoon that were used were at least sanitized before and after their uses. I personally did not see them get cleaned. I am beside myself with worry. I hope that I am just over reacting, but worry that I am not. If you go here please be active in your health & safety, voice your concerns. I only wish I would have at the time, but found as the day went on I became more and more worried. I have left them messages, but they have been too busy or not interested with my concerns. I am sure they can help calm my fears with a simple call or maybe they can't and that is why they have not called me back! I feel really bad about leaving a less than great review and feel that even if they called to ease my fears, I cannot undue what has already been done. I've experienced questionable billing practices here, first for chiropractic, then for an ALCAT test. Beware. I came in to try acupuncture, and it was suggested that I try chiropractic adjustments as well. I declined, saying I probably could not afford the additional expense of ongoing chiropractic treatment. They offered to check my insurance, and informed me that I only had a $25 copay for chiropractic visits. However, I started receiving Explanation of Benefit (EBE) forms from my insurance company showing that I owed a total of over $100 for each appointment. They also suggested the ALCAT test, which I declined several times, saying I could not afford it and my insurance probably wouldn't pay for it. They checked my insurance, and I was told that all I'd have to pay is a $200 deductible (some of which had already been met) and the rest would be covered by insurance. Imagine my shock when I received an EBE showing three separate charges for the ALCAT at a total of over $5000 that I supposedly owed them. I have called them about these issues, but I always get the voicemail and no one has returned my messages. I have also sent several emails, but those have also received no response. Either they intentionally deceived me about the costs of service, or there was a huge lack of communication between the people giving out this information and the people who do the billing. Either way, this is a terrible way to treat a client and I am never going back. read more

Both acupuncturists really are excellent but this place seems more interested in selling supplements than acupuncture. They overstep their bounds and try to get you to pay for all sorts of tests. There is pressure to buy a lot of things or go to seminars. It made me extremely uncomfortable. They also pulled the "We called your insurance and they will cover ____ treatments with a copay" while not getting any written proof from my insurance company. They then waited to get the claim to my insurance company until 5 months after the treatment. They seem to consistently over-schedule and what should be a 45 minute appointment is always double that. The facilities were clean and pleasant and the staff were nice. Like I said, I feel like the acupuncture is good but they don't seem content to just let you get acupuncture. read more

I went in with my husband for a consultation which cost us $120. They asked me some questions and went over a few of my labs (not in great detail), but I felt that the person conducting the consultation lacked expertise in knowledge of the thyroid and thyroid nodules (I have 5 benign cysts). With 10 minutes left of the consultation, we found out that for a 3 month treatment it was going to cost over $4,000--just for me--one person. I was shocked. The only reason I am giving two stars is because some of the testing they do sounds really fantastic and innovative. That was the part that was the most appealing--and probably what I would have spent money on. Unfortunately, I felt like our only financial option was to choose that 3 month package for over $4000 and that was just not in our budget. I am going to keep shopping around for other naturopaths or health care providers who offer the same types of testing for less money. If they had offered cheaper packages, I might have considered getting treatment from them--such a shame. read more

I've used Regan for 5 years now. When nothing else would help a nerve going to my arm, including surgery, he had me off pain meds in 13 days. I had an Amazon.com deal and wanted to try this out. I have no prior experience with acupuncture, so there isn't anything for me to compare that too, however it seemed fine. I also didn't have any really super specific ailments I was going to work out. General digestive problems after having gastric bypass three years ago, hypothyroid and possible symptoms of PCOS. First, front end seemed to be a little chaotic, they forgot a few times what I was there for and that I had the amazon deal. Next I met with some general office person, I guess. He kind of explained about the practice in really general terms. It seemed to take a long time and wasn't much. Next I met with a general practitioner, the western side of things, not anything new there. Then I met with a person from the eastern med. side. When I met with her I explained my visit from the beginning because there was to collaboration between the three people I saw. This was fine, the acupuncture went okay. She prescribed three different supplements that involved more pills than I could or would ever keep up with. I did see some immediate digestive improvement, but it is impossible to know if it was from the supplements or the acupuncture. Over all they recommend about $500 worth of ongoing Eastern med therapy and no western follow up. In the end it felt like a primary care Doc and an eastern med practitioner just decided to share an office and front end staff, but there seemed to be little collaboration on my visit beyond that. read more

I'm still on the fence about this one. I liked most of the staff, and Regan seemed both professional and friendly, and I appreciated the fact they had a regular doctor on staff as well. But because of initial miscommunication, I was led to think my insurance would cover a good portion of the treatment plan that Regan outlined for me. I doubt this misleading was intentional, but it still didn't sit well with me, and I didn't follow through with the plan because of the expense, and also because I didn't feel I had enough information to be convinced that it was necessary. Also, they advised me to purchase and take a supplement that another doctor later told me was risky because of the presence of bovine matter (mad cow disease concern), and I feel that at the least, this issue should have been brought up when the supplement was suggested. My suggestion is that if you decide to go to this clinic for treatment, make sure you have as much information as possible on your condition, the procedures, supplements, payment plans, etc. read more

I'm spent over 5,000 and left worse off then when I came into this place. I believe in the concept and love the idea of healthcare with eastern influence. This place is just an idea, they don't deliver what they promise. It's your money they are interested in, NOT you or your health! I went to the free dinner and signed up for the consultation, they changed me $67, I think I just paid for my dinner and the wise person sitting next to me that walked away after the dinner. During my "consultation", Regan said he was interviewing me to see if I was a good candidate for their program. Apparently, you have to be invited into the weight loss program. It really seemed legitimate and I was hopeful he would deliver on his promises. I agree with the posts that claim there is more interest in your money than helping you. I was promised mentoring, classes, acupuncture, diagnosis of my symptoms. Every time I went I was given more pills to take, at one point I was up to over 65 pills a day, which depleted my "bank" very quickly. I was told to stop eating gluten and sugar and the brain scan they gave me determined that I need read the dictionary to improve--seriously! The classes were okay, but not worth my time. There was absolutely no mentoring at all! I asked a lot of questions and when I made my final appointment to complain about my care, I was told that the staff was intimidated by me--seriously! Why, because they couldn't answer my questions, and just wanted to sell me more supplements? This was a huge investment with the promise of helping me heal my body, I left with empty pockets and no change in my health. I should have done more research into this company before I gave them over $5,000 to help me. Be cautious! DO NOT pay $5,000 for them to hold in a "bank" for you.
