I've taken a few classes and am going to continue. It's a great program they run and I couldn't be happier.

I want him to want to be active, I want him to want to be fit. I'm eager for him to be body, mind and soul positive. But I want it to be a positive experience and an opportunity to grow learn and thrive. On a whim I signed him up for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He was hesitant and unsure. I rushed there to be at the end of his first class today. Me: "How was it? Did you like it? How was your first day?" Nathan: "It was amazing. We're coming back forever!" East West MMA SoCal took my call this morning, rambling about needing direction for my kiddo. They were so kind and mapped out a plan and welcomed him to start right away. The instructors are amazing, they make the class fun, yet educational. Fitness based but form first. They include everyone, no one is left out. I've been training here for more than a year now (and so has my 8 year old daughter); the thing I like most about this school is that you get from it what you put into it. Almost everyone at the school will meet you where you are and try to lift you up. While I opted to get ready for tournaments, one of the black belts did private sessions with me to help me get ready. When I just want to exercise and keep my body moving, I get that, too. The adult class is approachable but *can be* hard if you want it to be. The kids classes are PERFECT for teaching my kids (even my 4 year old) discipline and respect. After a while, you tend to start to feel like family. I recommend this school to anyone that wants to have a great time, get some exercise, and learn. You might even make some friends along the way. read more

Our 8 year old son starting coming here in January of 2018, he had been a victim of bullying and was very down on his confidence and self esteem. After just his first few classes you could see a major change in him - The way he would walk and carry himself. We had never seen him so excited and enthusiastic about anything. The Staff are constantly encouraging and they make all of the students feel like they can accomplish anything! Watching his face show just how proud he was in his accomplishments after earning his new belt his sister wanted to try it! Our daughter is 11 and has always been more of a bookworm. She loves art and reading and she has never really been all that into anything that was physical. She was very unsure if she wanted to join because she felt she would not be able to do the exercises and that she would feel embarrassed in front of others. Well my daughter was offered to try some classes first to see if she was interested.....Well now she counts down the days in-between classes She has NEVER felt like she was incapable. The entire staff just makes the environment so positive and welcoming - They never discourage and the teach with compassion and with a love for the students. Not only do my kids learn the Mixed Martial Arts, they learn life lessons, confidence, and self acceptance. Our family is so grateful that we have found East West MMA and The Uribe Family - They truly are amazing with all they do! I've been taking the MMA and Combat Fitness classes for over a year now. I've lost almost 20 pounds and am in the best shape I think I've ever been. The instructors are knowledgeable and extremely motivating. The studio is a clean, friendly atmosphere. Everyone at the studio, parents or participants are extremely friendly and motivating. If you're looking for something better than going to the gym for your New Year's resolutions, and really are serious about getting in shape or losing weight, I highly suggest coming in and trying a few of the classes. They also offer a number of kids martial arts programs, so there's always opportunities to take your family, rather than trying to find time to sneak out of the house for a workout. My daughter started coming here a year ago. she has several behavioral struggles, as she has ADHD and a sensory processing disorder. since we started coming here, my daughters overall behavior has slowly but steadily improved. Even on days when she drags her feet about going (rare, but it does happen) she never fails to leave the studio smiling, full of self confidence and pride in her accomplishments. what I love most about this school, is the way the instructors work with all their students with kindness and compassion, and adapt teaching techniques n order to fit the needs of each child. A child that may be full of self doubt will leave this studio having accomplished their goals, and willing to reach for higher ones. The schools values of honesty, integrity, self disciple, compassion, and confidence are instilled in each lesson, so that students learn a sport, learn self defense, and learn to be morally driven individuals in society all at the same time. read more

My son started shortly after he turned five. I was very worried at first because he sometimes has a hard time focusing and not playing around but the instructors are just amazing, even the older students who help teach the class. They have age appropriate expectations and hold the students to doing their very best, kindly correcting any mistakes so that student is doing the moves right. If the kids aren't paying attention, they gently remind them to pay attention and it usually works the first time. My son does great during class, is learning the stretches and moves well, and enjoys himself immensely. I've noticed that he is more focused at home and responds better to correction; he's also become very health conscience so that he can be his best for MMA. Even at five, he tries to make healthy food and drink decisions and reminds us to do the same. He's learned some amazing life skills so far, both what's mentioned above and how to deal with bad situations and people. I just can't recommend East West MMA highly enough. Its a very special studio where, even in this individualistic sport, Sensei Uribe builds a true team atmosphere. read more
