I was complaining about my on-going niggling back pain just as I stumbled upon Back in Brighton. I saw it as a sign of fate and went in and booked my first appointment. And I'm glad I did. The first appointment consists of a consultation covering your aches and pains, how and when it started, and what triggers it. Gerry then assigns you a series of treatments suited to your problem (mine being very minor it was a relatively short healing process), and then proceeds with the first osteopathic treatment. I must admit I was a bit taken aback by how intense osteopathy is - the deep tissue massage isn't the kind you get at your local spa, and the 'popping' of the vertebrae - all I can say is be prepared! However, not every treatment is the same, and it does get better over time. Gerry was extremely friendly, and did everything to make me feel comfortable. He also clearly knows his stuff, and gave me plenty of advice on how to improve my posture etc in order to keep the pain at bay. His clinic is beyond clean and comfortable, and if you're lucky you'll get to meet the cutest (and well behaved) little pup, who, if my memory serves me correctly, is called Spanky! After around 6 sessions my back was fixed, and I haven't experienced any pain since, and if I do I'll be heading straight back to him. Yes, he is a little more expensive than his local competitors, however your back is not something you want to take risks with, and Gerry was worth every penny.

I have had problems with my back for a few years, this was exacerbated…read moreby an injury at work about two years ago, when I fell off a step ladder at work when the bottom step broke. Over the forth coming months the pain got worse and my mobility less. I was referred to a Physiotherapist who did a little work on my back and gave me some excerises to do, this I regret to say did not really help. I tolerated the pain and limitations that were imposed on me by the constant discomfort and pain, but thing deteriated and I was left almost immobile, and was having a lot of time off sick from work, this obviously did not go down well with my employers, my doctor prescribed pain killers which up to a point helped. I was however still unable to walk very far without being in considerable pain, to point where on occassions I would loose all feeling in my legs. I was told various things by different professionals, ranging from buy a new bed, and is a natural due to ageing. Not willing to accept these diagnosis or suggestions, so I decided to explore other avenues. I looked on line and purely by chance saw Chiropractic Life, which was only a mile or so down the road - it was late at night so sent them an email explaining my problem and asked if they thought they may be able to help me. I was pleasantly suprised when the following morning I received a call from them, stating that they would be able to give a free consultation to ascertain what the problem was, but they were sure that they would be able to help me. I duly made an appointment. Unfortunately I had to call at short notice to cancel the appointment due to a change in my shifts, they were very helpful and immediately made me another apointment with no cancelation fees, or making me feel that I was wasting their time. I was a bit aprehensive on my first visit, but they made me feel at ease and welcome, whilst I was waiting to see Richard (everyone is on first name terms - which I find friendly and makes the atmosphere very relaxing) I swas shown a Video which explained some of the principals of Chiroptics, this I found absorbing and informative. Richard then asked me into his consulting room and and asked a few questions - some of the questions I had never been asked before by either the physiotherapist or my GP but all were relevent to the problems I had. I felt that for the first time someone was interested in not just my back pain - but in me as an individual, His approach was holistic. After the initial consultation (which was free) he told me what he thought the problem was, and what he could do to help me, the fees were clearly explained to me, and I decided to go ahead. I was unbelievably impressed with his thoroughness, and felt that he wanted to sort my back problems out more than I did!! Another appointment was made for the following day so he could X-Rays of my my spine, this I had never had done before, but that is the way they work, professionally. With the Phsyiotherapist it had been a best guess approach, and my Gp had just prescribed me pain killers and told me to get more excersise(which is very difficult when you can only walk a few yards) Richard knew exactly what the problem was and showed me the X-Rays, you didn;t need to be medically trained to see the problem, several of my vertibrae, were well out of alignment, as was my pelvis and shoulders. He then explained in detail what he wanted to do to correct the problem. No high faluting mumbo jumbo , it was all in plain english, he constantly asked me if I understood what he was saying and asked if I had any questions, he really put me at ease. Since starting the treatment, I have been able to take my dog for a walk, have no time of sick due to back pain, and am able to carry out daily tasks that before I would not have been able to. I still get pain and am not yet fully mobile - but after each session I feel better, many of my friends, and indeed even my boss has commented on how much better I am walking now. I have not had to rely on pain killers for quite a while, and will continue to see Richard on a long term basis, not only to correct my problems , but to make sure they do not re-occur. Im not one for normally writing reviews but richard helped me out so much and karen kindly asked me…read moreto leave a review, so i couldn't really say no. my story - i came in with really bad re-occurring neck pain and daily headaches as a result of seeing a promotion in the window as i live local to the clinic. anway richard was great, and gentle with me, went through everything and i am feeling great now 4 weeks down the line. my headaches have disappeared completely and my neck pain has greatly reduced. He has given me some exercises now and I am positive that my neck pain will go completely.

The Chiropractor was nice and informative, whether that be a little bit of scaremongering to exacerbate my thoughts on having the treatment...£52 for the first visit examination and then £33 for each ongoing visit, and when told that I would need intensive and regular sessions for months they costs quickly added up. After four ineffective visits to a GP, Physiotherapist, Masseuse and Acupuncturist, I didn't have…read moremuch hope for this place but I cannot recommend it enough. During my first visit I received a full back scan highlighting the severity of any structural/muscular inflammation resulting in a full, clear diagnosis of my problem and x-rays (and all in for £20 which I couldn't believe). They advised me that my problem was a degenerative condition in my neck, not my back where I was experiencing the pain. In fact, I was in so much pain I couldn't even lift my left foot to put it on the clutch to drive myself there. I have since stuck to their treatment plan and hardly ever feel pain at all. Did I mention the staff are really lovely too? If you're considering anywhere else, don't. You won't find any better.

The chiropractors themselves are really good. Thorough in checking you over and above all the treatment works! I've seen lots of therapists over the years but the chiropractors here have always been the best at fixing me. Not only did they help get rid of my pain, but they nicely nag/encourage me to look after myself in between times. I know it's for my own good and I appreciate the way they really want you to help yourself. They're often busy, so it's not always easy to get an appointment when you want - but they stayed late at the end of the day yesterday. Thank you so much for that.
