It seems there are very few vendors any more. Most of the table spaces on our most recent Saturday visit were empty. The sellers continue to be an interesting bunch which is true of the sellers at any flea market I've ever been too. They will chat you up with stories of all kinds; they are "characters". Most of the vendors here are Mainers with a few other folks who travel from flea market to flea market around New England in the summer and warmer climes in the winter. This flea market holds a special place for me though. More than 25 years ago when I first came here with my husband (an inveterate collector and antique maven from childhood!) I found what became the first of my now overflowing collection of vintage cocktail shakers....and in fact the one I bought here is one of the most valuable in my collection. I remember I paid $22.00 for it having "talked the seller down" from $25.00 dollars. That emerald green glass shaker is now worth a couple of hundred dollars but I would never part with it. It's a beauty. At that time I was not nearly as interested in flea markets as my husband was and is. He would stop at any flea market he saw back then to my eye-rolls and groans. He would say to me: "Find something to collect and you will love them too". How right he was! It was the memory of my parents NYC cocktail parties that got me thinking of collecting the cocktail shakers and some other vintage cocktail era memorabilia. As a child peeking into the living room at one of my parent's parties, I saw glamour, sophistication and beauty....the women beautiful in their dresses and the men handsome in their suits and ties. I have photos of my parents' parties with cocktail shakers at the ready to pour martinis and I was inspired to go on the cocktail era memorabilia hunt. It's been sad to see the decline in vendors here at Montsweag...and maybe this means a decline in interest in flea markets? We will still stop here when we are in the area with high hopes there is a turn-around. If you're vintage hounds like we are, it's simply a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

The Best Nursery Experience in Maine - Hands Down!…read more We were driving through town when we spotted the name "Bushes Bushes" and couldn't help but chuckle--so of course we had to pull in. What we found was far more than expected! This nursery is a hidden gem with an incredible selection of plants, trees, and garden goods--all at extremely reasonable prices. We've now been back three times, and each visit has been better than the last. Today we had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Nancy and Ed, and they are wonderful. Incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Their entire team is just as friendly and helpful. They even had a fantastic Father's Day special--25% off fruit trees and fruit plants--which made our visit even sweeter. Thanks to them, we found the perfect additions for our garden, and this place has officially become part of our Sunday routine whenever we're in town. If you're anywhere near the Richmond area, Bushes Bushes is an absolute must-stop. And if you're looking for a great cup of coffee afterward, swing by Morning Moose Coffee--we'll be sure to match the top-notch hospitality Nancy and Ed showed us! Lovely smaller local Greenhouse with good perennials, annuals, herbs, veggies. They have a few…read moretrees. They have an indoor store with seeds, loose grass seed by the scoop, various fertilizers and pest control products. They feature their sales on Facebook page and usually have a weekly featured $1.00 perennial. This week was delphiniums...my fave! They have a lot of great perennials in 2 inch cups for $2.00 which can't be beat...included lupines, various sedums, lavender, rosemary, etc. Their lettuce looked picture perfect. Friendly staff. Seasonal store and usually opens again around Christmas and sells trees, and these cute greenery gnomes. They sell a variety of soils, compost, etc. Sorry my pics weren't better, they were more plant descriptions of a few I bought

I picked up some vintage Christmas decorations at a fabulous price and ended up getting a shellfish serving tray as I had to have it. Check this place out for sure, they are really friendly too!
